I thought Święto Kobiec (8th March) was a commie invention that Poles have scrubbed the way they have 22nd July (commie take-over day). It surely cannot be celebrated as widely as it was under communism, can it?
Well... maybe it's not as widely celebrated as it used to be or should I say it's celebrated in different way... ... still men in Poland remember about it and compliment women with flowers or chocolates or just send greetings... and it's nice...:)
Mar 5, 10, 19:33 - Thread attached on merging: INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY...when is it in Poland...?
I saw on the Polish news today some news about womens day , and it mentioned that in 1913 this day was changed to March 8th , it did not say what the date was before the change....?
What day is womens day in Poland , and how is it celebrated by women here , do the guys buy you gifts on this day...?
I am a bit puzzled as to what day it is in Poland...is it the 5th or the 8th...?
I just got a text from my Russian girlfriend to say that the school she teaches at is having a party to celebrate womens day today...? Is it also today in Poland...?
I shall make a note of it....but now i am puzzled as to why my Russian lady is in charge of a party to celebrate womens day today...? Perhaps they do it different in Moscow...?
I shall have to ask her when she comes on skype tonight....

Because parties on Monday usually don't have the same kick...
I have no idea how to translate it. It was a meeting of the whole school (students + teachers) in the biggest room at school, usually gymnasium, for the occasion like Lenin's birthday or anniversary of Soviet revolution. There were recitations of revolutionary poems, a lot of boring speeches, school choir would sing something patriotic and at the end dancing group would dance some folk dance. It was a blast! ;)
Oh dear...i don,t know how to break this to you gently...but dear old Comrade Lenin is dead , has been for some time...Also communism has kinda fallen out of favour too , so there is not much in the way of celebration of the revolution and stuff...
However , the Russians love their traditions , so there is often some kind of event going on at my ladies school...As well as being a teacher of Russian language , she also teaches Russian culture...
The school is a music school , for really gifted children , so most of the events tend to centre around some famous composer or musician...
Sorry to break the news about Lenin , but he had been ill for some time i think....
Is nobody going to buy you a nice present on monday then Landora..?
I don't think so ;) I usually don't even remember about all these days of this or that, I only remember about Grandfather's Day, just because he expects me to and I'm being nice :P
Well you learn something new every day..! I did not know about grandfathers day...
So , what is the usual gift for a woman on womens day then..?
i guess its different depending on if the woman is a friend , a relative or a girlfriend or wife...?
Oh , and i discovered that Russia does indeed have the same womens day as Poland , the only reason that they were having their party at my ladies school on friday was due to the fact the school is closed on monday....
Is there a Men's Day? And if no why not? They get a diamond ring we get nothing...they get holidays we get nothing. I don't want to hear about "inequality" from a woman ever again ;)
I join McCoy and the rest of the guys out here to wish all the best to all the women. Lots of happiness. Without you being happy we can only dream about our happiness ;)
