wtf is with dogs barking for hours on end at nothing? the neighbours dog goes on for hours starting @ 7am. I looked out the window to see the owner 20 feet away from the dog and not a single word said to the dog.

its really annoying on Sat& Sun mornings recovering from a Zubrowka night.

I like kowalski's answer!!!!!
Shoot a fire-cracker or a gun out the window. Lots of dogs are afraid of loud noises and will run.

To deal with a dog and not have the Police after you: use a water pistol.

Or spray it with your least favorite deoderant.

Or call the guy up, disguise your voice and tell him you're from the Animal Control and several people complained about his dog.

well first off..... i do not speak Polsku fluently, so calling/talking to the owner is out of the question.

secondly.... i was not anywhere near the place i am living in while enjoying my Zubrowka. I rent a room at a house and come and go all the time. hardly a party place.

there is a Pitbull, and German Shepard, and then the dog across the street. It sounds like a frickin kennel all the time. I'm not home much, but its always going on.

back home in Canada, there are by-laws and fines for the owners of barking dogs disturbing the peace.

i guess the owner is never home or deaf. must not be a very tough pitbull as the fence is only 1 meter high.

I had a dog who would sometimes bark at something at night and would wake my dad up, then he was mad the whole day. So one day he took some duct-tape and taped the dog's mouth up. He was a collie with a long snout, so it was easy to do.

But they're both dead now.

Throw some rat poison over the fence or antifreeze.:)
Theres a high pitched device undectable to human ears
that drives animals away from your property.

Ouch! Don't do that. That's a terrible way to die.

I would advise you to go and have a very sincere chat with your neighbor. If he is a decent person, he will understand and try to make things better.

Awww it isn't the dogs fault i would not advise cruelty to them at all - talk to your neighbours or if possible report it to the appropriate people x

I know just kidding I have a golden retriever its the coolest dog ever.
Maybe he has a friend that can speak polish and talk to him.
I`m suprised there isnt some kind of noise oridance against it.

still going on. its just so annoying. barks all morning. just doesn't stop. i found out that the owner had 2 dogs previously, and they met a nasty death. and i'm sure i'm not the only one that it bothered by all the barking. I'm living at a hostel and it was topic of discussion every evening.

If you have a neighbor calmly standing by his car washing it with a big nasty dog running back and forth along their fence barking all the time someone walks by on the street loudly and they ignore their dog like that then they have no common decency towards their fellow neighbors. I can't understand how they can just pretend they don't hear that and do nothing about it, just keep the friggin' mut indoors then it's nice and quiet.

This small city is so nice at night time when people keep their stupid animals indoors instead on their yard barking all day long. And the poorer neighborhoods even have them running around loose without any dog-collars...

Point is, there's dogshit all over the sidewalks and during spring when the snow is melting you have it floating around....

Can you even call some authorities on these morons for not taking responsible care of their animals? Also, the recommendation to talk to these people is at best a fantasy that they would listen and understand.

In case cops wont do anything and the neighbor continues to disregard their community what are some good places and brand names to buy these antifreeze and rat poison because my patience is running thin...

noise oridance against it

well, there is! But the police would come too late and they rather don't have anything to measure the noise except their own ears;). But reporting it repeatedly can help if talking to the neighbour doesn't.

Apparently chocolate is poisonous to dogs.

There is no way out of this.

When dogs are sold na wsi, their loud bark is given as a plus point. Don't attempt talking to the neighbour.

Pepper spray? Move?

tell him you're from the Animal Control and several people complained about his dog.

:)

Call the guy up, disguise your voice, and tell him you're with the Italian Mafia or KGB and tell the owner that his dog will sleep with the fish or will be send to Siberia if the dog doesn't stop barking. :)

Call the guy up, disguise your voice,

he said that he does not speak Polish. might this not rather give the game away?

it is infuriating.
short of poisoning the dog, there is not much else you can do I am afraid.
however if you kill the dog, the owner will just get another one so you are in the same position as you are at the moment

I have one alternative which will not result in the death of the dog nor any physical injury to the owner or his propery but you will have to PM me for details as I will not discuss this on a public forum

what gets on my nerves is when you have yuppies who move out to houses around cities and let their dogs out to roam around the fields until they come home from work. you end up with packs of dogs running around the countryside completely unchecked.
