Banners and slogans at soccer games in Poland

Soccer or football fans create and show giant banners and slogans at important games. Some of them are quite graphic and shocking. With those banners they express their feelings about the team - both their own or rival and its management, as well as comment on current political events.

Legia fans show what they think of their own team`s performance : Hope and Hopeless

Has Legia won anything recently?

Has Legia won

I heard they have had some problems but don`t know exactly coz it is not my cup of tea. I am primarily interested in the socio cultural side.

Film references: Apolypse Now - ironic criticism aimed at the Legia club management.

comment on current political events.

Before 2019 national elections

Major parties visualised as swine: Poland, who will protect you?

Never mind. Polonia Warszawa will have its day.

Or do you hate them?

I don`t hate any teams, I am above it, those petty rivalries are infantile to me. :):)

How about Wisla Krakow?

Their sector banners can be as huge as Legia`s but probably are less controversial.

Poles and Wisła are Poland!

Poland, who will protect you?

That is a direct quote from KSU, the oldest punk group in Poland: they sing about corrupt politicians.

The latest is a banner with Putin:

Which has a deeper meaning. Putin is wearing the kit of Spartak Moscow team who has had an informal solidarity alliance with Legia`s rival in that game, Lech Poznan. Legia fans alluded to that alliance in their banner.

Polonia Warszawa will have its day.

They also show banners but not as spectacular as Legia`s. However, Polonia`s ones often remind of Warsaw`s history, especially 1944 Rising.

As I already mentioned, the Ukrainian national team played a match vs Armenia in the city of Łódź today. Ukrainian and Polish fans unfolded such banners:

United we are stronger.

I've observed such at football games on TV, but it's not a usual and normally there no invective, in print anyway.
The fans are another story! LOL

Protests and actions in support of things are a long tradition at football matches.

Sometimes Polish stadiums become a platform for foreign banners which cause controvercy and provoke UEFA to impose penalties on clubs.
Celtic FC was punished for the behavior of their fans during the Champions League football match against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw. Scots will have to pay 15,000. euro fine because their fans showed a vulgar, anti-monarchical banner a few days after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The penalty was announced on Tuesday by UEFA.

Celtic has historic ties to the Republican movement in Ireland and many of its fans are traditionally opposed to the British monarchy. UEFA concluded that the banner "carries a message that does not match the sporting event".

United we are stronger.

Another display of Polish Ukrainian unity.

Just before the start of the Shakhtar Donetsk - Real Madrid match played at the Warsaw Legia stadium, thousands of fans raised the flags of Poland and Ukraine while playing the Champions League anthem, creating an unforgettable spectacle.

Before the match, the announcer thanked all Poles on behalf of Shakhtar for supporting Ukraine in those difficult days. "We believe that all this will end with our undeniable victory. Glory to Ukraine," he said in two languages: Polish and then Ukrainian. He also announced a surprise that the club had prepared for the occasion.

@Alien, check the title of this thread. This thread is about what Polish football fans display at football stadiums. The messages they're displaying are not always connected to sport.
