Polish people and racism.

The Jews in Germany to the contrary were totally assimilated...not many famous scientists from polish shtetls either...why is that?

and you decided to kill them :(

And didn't they live mostly in their little shtetls without much contact to the Poles...with their own language, their own schools, their own professions, their own clothes? Not very assimilated I would say.

because there was no pressure on assimilation. There was a lot of Jews who later were good Poles ... now we have more and more Polish people who started to talk about their roots :)

I think it is so beautiful.

Not to forget the regular pogroms!

Pogroms in western Europe was main reason why they have moved to Poland.

So they loved living in Poland and liked the Poles so much that they decided to stay apart amongst themselves and not to assimilate??? Interesting theory...

The Jews in Germany to the contrary must have hated it...:(

They didn't come to Poland for the love of Poles, but for the fear of Germans, English, Spaniards, French etc.

In cities like Warszawa or £ódz a lot of them were assimilated.

In small towns in eastern Poland there were places where they were in majority so they were living their life without knowledge about other nations in our country.

It is good realtionships between our nations changes so quick. I think still some Americans with both Polish and Jewish origin have some problems with it.

It is good that Israelis and Polish people don't have this problem. :-)

read about Polish year in Israel.

:)

I agree!

Isn't it very similar with Turks in Germany these days?
Bratwurst Boy 12 | 11,863
23 Apr 2008 #128
Yes...I think so too....they are not very popular...to different from the Germans...they don't like us and we don't like them (the exceptions prove the rule).

I had the Turks in mind also as I compared the Jews with the Poles....that's why it's hard to believe that the Poles were all peachy to the Jews....

Or comments like that:

For me the fact that Poland had over 3 million Jews before WW2 is enough to prove lack of racism.

Well than it looks like I shoot myself in my own foot with this comparison, hehehe... :)

As for the Polish-Jewish history it's description and evaluation will always depend on askers intention, thus it doesn't come as a surprise that Poles on this forum will point out the positive facts while you will highlight the negative ones, which certainly did exist. Yes, there were pogroms in Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. Still, it would be hard to find another country which would in such great extent give those people rights and freedoms as Old Rzeczpospolita did. The reason why Jews remained in many cases attached to Yidish is because they were allowed to keep their cultural autonomy. The same reason stands behind the sheer numbers of them living in rzeczpospolita. Certainly if it would be that harsh for them they would migrate elsewhere, for example to Germany, where it seems they were so loved that they decided to totally assimilate. :)

As for the question whether Poles loved Jews, well some did as there were many Polish-Jew marriages and some hated them to their guts. All in all I would consider our joint history definitely positive rather than negative.

U only have to go to a footie match to see racism. I found it despicable how they made monkey noises at the black guys. I'd love to see one of them do that to his face, what a hiding he'd get.

Germans lived most of their history in one commonwealth (Staatenbund)

Yes,in commonwealth with other Germans. The Poles lived together with Lithuanians,Belorussians etc.Or do you think Prussia was a commonwealth of German and polish inhabitants?

As for Jews Poland was one of the few states which never threw its Jews out of the country.Remember Czechs drove them three times out of Prague,Spanish threw them out completely,United Kingdom expelled all of them in 13th century and allowed some of them back only 400 years later.

Charlemagnes Empire

Charlomagne's empire was not commonwealth. It was an empire made by the sword.Or do you regard Napoleon's Empire as a commonwealth too?

Everybody knows that after death of Charlemagne his empire got dissolved and the holy roman empire of german nation became gradually a shadow government. The real power was within the small states. One emperor actually was czech,Karl, who built Prague university and is still regarded the most important czech king in czech Republic. However the Czechs got integrated into Austrian Empire, there was not even commonwealth between german states and Austria only some alliances with some german states being part of Austrian Empire if I remember well.

are we all racist? I guess i you mess with our nation/nationality we are racist. Poland is for poles and only for poles. Living for so long, outside of poland, I came across many ppl, most of them said, go back to your f country you f immigrant, you're taking our jobs away" some said" you're here to serve us" and still do. When i home in poland, no one says that, nobody corrects me on my polish, nobody looks at me different. I'm home in poland, my heart stays in poland.

Growing up in a communist poland, i saw a whole nation standing together as 1 family. We challenged communism authorities, we broke up the communist regime! I go home, I see many polish ppl not being proud of where they come from, whom they are, why, cauze they're stupid.

Once again, are we racists, we all are. No matter what nationality u belong too, you're a racist. Some more then other, example, I never met a Black person who isn't a racist, I never met a sand ****** who isn't a racist, I never met a gook who isn't a racist and the list goes on

Those guys are too stupid to understand the meaning of this word. If only their team would have goal scoring black player they would like him. Lechia for example already had such player few years ago. The same group of people cannot be racist and non-racist and racist again during short period of time. They are just dumb through whole their life.

I see many polish ppl not being proud of where they come from, whom they are, why, cauze they're stupid.

Many would claim that one could be proud from his own personal achievements. Even if you would reject such thesis to describe such situation correctly you must notice that supposed victory over communists is not enough. This is important how people consider order that replaced old regime.

People are People.

There are good and bad of every race or nationality.

The more you are raised in diversity the more you are accepting of it.
Bratwurst Boy 12 | 11,863
1 May 2008 #145
Nope...the exact opposite happens.

Either there is fully assimilation after a time or they live just side by side in more or less ignorance.
That goes well as long is the environment is stable and no group get's to hostile to the other....
But please...even in the most wealthy, most diverse society (the US) there are strong ethnic/racial tensions. What do you think will happen when the wealth is dwindling and people have to fight for scraps?

That you have people just to "educate" is just wishful thinking of multicultis who see the world through their pink glasses...and is proven wrong!

Ethnics tend to stay with each other, be it China town, the turkish ghetto or the white surburb...that is the rule!

Why do you think the US is the most wealthy and successful society? Because of its commitment to diversity that has allowed a wealth of ideas and viewpoints. Yes, there are racial tensions. America is the most racist nation on earth, but it is also the most progressive. For every action there is a reaction and people who fight it, but racist sticks in the mud are simply not a high enough cost to not move forward as human beings.

Because of its commitment to diversity

That is crap!
The US started out as a genocidal settlements movement and how you said yourself, is one of the most racist countries on earth.
It just works till now as there is still so much wealth to distribute...wait when this will be over!

Why do you think the US is the most wealthy and successful society?

Because they came out of WWII as the real winner...

Being racist, meaning centering in ones own heritage, is nothing "unnatural" or "muddy", "bad" and "avoidable" but rather totally natural.

A war in which the enemy was racism.

Being racist, meaning centering in ones own heritage, is nothing "unnatural" or "muddy", "bad" and "avoidable" but rather totally natural.

Of course it's natural. But does that make it right? Babies NATURALLY want to put a bunch of crap in their mouths. Should they? Is it out of ignorance? That's a crude example, but it isn't that far fetched. People are naturally fearful and reserved about things they don't understand. That's natural. But the roadblocks and differences between races, those are man made, thousands of years ago perhaps but man made none the less.

A war in which the enemy was racism.

Ooooooooh puleeese:

What happened only 1963???
And don't tell me the US did give a sh'i about the Jews as they entered the war....

That war was about EVERYTHING but racism, it was about the future breakup of Europe and the world, the future spheres of influences, who would get what.

The British Empire and the US couldn't allow a such potent rival run amok and squeezing them out...not to forget that nobody knew if Hitler wouldn't make it over the pond in the end.

A lot was at stake...human rights or the jews in the Ghettos interested nobody!

racism

What happened only 1963???

I'm not sure I understand that.

Yes, I oversimplify a very complicated war when I say that the sole enemy was racism. However, you are just as guilty when you say it had nothing to do with racism. Case in point, the image you so callously try to throw in my face represents a segment of segregation that existed officially in America for hundred years, AND that system wasn't challenged until Blacks came back from the war and realized that while they were risking their lives fighting racism in Europe they were neck deep in it at home. Besides, I've already conceded that America is a racist nation. The image you produced is the product of it. However that racism is a byproduct of diversity, diversity that contributed beyond words to culture, politics, economy. I'm not here to judge societies by their worst attributes. Nor am I here to excuse societies because of their best attributes. But the fact of the matter is that diversity and multiculturalism have created great things.
