POLISH MYTHS - let's debunk or prove them!

but they haven't really experienced others enough yet

Seanus I was always wondering how many hours kids spend in school in your country?
When I was in liceum I found it nearly imposible to be good at all of 14 subject I was obligated to attent... 14!

List of subject in my liceum:
1 polish
2 english
3 german
4 maths
5 phisics
6 chemistry
7 biology
8 history
9 knowledge about society (WOS)
10 geography
11 computer science (informatyka)
12 cultural knowledge (WOK)
13 phisical education (W-F)
14 business basics (podstawy przedsiębiorczości)
15 civil defence course (przysposobienie obronne)
16 latin language (this one was obligatory in my school, but other schools dont offer such classes)
17 religion/ethics (this one is not obligatory)

Of course not every of those subject is lectured in every year of school. But averagely there are 14 subject to pass each year. Every day lessons last 7-8 hours! (e.g. from 7.25 - 14.50 or 8.15 - 15.35) If I'd like to learn really thoroughly every subject... I would have no life! Its for genius only. And the teachers know that, that's why they are not strict if they know that a student don't need a subject for finishing exams...

continual Polish German antipathy.-Myth

it was not always in existence, disregarding the 20th century there was a bit of amenity during some historical periods between the two. Poles were more often in conflict with the Russians.

take German settlement fro example, the other day i came across this group, the Walddeutsche, who settled in what is now the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.

Do you know the legend about Wanda who didn't want to marry a German knight? Heh, the is from XII century...

Yes i do, when did this myth come about?

Because during the period in question nationality was very weak, and amongst the nobility practically nonexistent, they all spoke Latin in any case.

clip about Germans in Poland.

youtube.com/watch?v=stLdXx4HqCI

Mind you i do recall some king executing people, mostly Germans who did not speak the language at one stage because he taught them to be spies.

Highly contentious, but I'll give it a try anyway (at the peril of being cursed at):

Fact:

Polish drivers are among the worst drivers in Europe.

well, that's surprising.

i'm not going to start running through PF and posting names (several reasons for that) but i see it constantly.

Besides, it's not much use when there are bills to be paid and you can't find a suitable job with what you have.

which has to make you question the educational system itself.

there is also a matter of perspective that needs to be considered here as well. educated, ok, intelligent/clever/smart......maybe a different story.

how "educated" is a native born Pole with a Ph.D. in "Polish Philology".....

Polish drivers are among the worst drivers in Europe.

Nothing contentious about that. 99% of Poles will probably agree with you right off the bat, about half of those with a look of pride.

How many hours? Hard to say, maybe 40 hours a week. We don't believe in cramming way too much into people. Give the foundations and give them the skills necessary for them to flourish at university.

with a look of pride

How can you be proud when over 5.400 people get killed on the roads every year (that amounts to about 15 per day!)? 180.000 drivers a year get caught for drink driving (I drive quite a lot on PL-roads and I've never been stopped, so I shudder to think about the real figure)?

Strange to be proud of that ... :-S

a savvy Executive Vice President once sat in front of a job candidate and saw on his resume that he "had 10 years' experience", whereas the VP then went on to ask, "so, do you have 10 years' experience, or 1 years' experience ten times...?"

I've also seen carpenters that can hammer a 3 inch nail clean into a 2x4 in one stroke, yet another carpenter do it in 5 strokes....

let's remember the way i framed that question......but with that said, if they are "Overly" educated, exactly what are they qualified to do? i don't know about you, but a Polish person being "Overly" educated in........Polish.......tits on a turtle.

huh ? what does it mean ?

you get shat on by the british when you're in need, then you go help them like idiotic indians fighting for the liberation of india from the british on hitlers side , you get flattened by the might of the Blitzkrieg with your inferior 'army' , you then roll along with the Russians, after which you betray them

all the while complaining that its ALL THEIR fault, never a Pole to blame.....

no wonder there's such a thing as Polack jokes

If you know polish I have very funny video which would be the best answer for your comment. Its really clever, as i heard many times "why do I have to learn all that stuff? I won't need it in my future work!"

Those in this links are from the same branch as black cat crossing your path or go through under the ladder... you don't have to debunk anythink in things like that

PS do you also have general superstition about "krakać"/"zapeszać"? If you say something bad might happen you have to knock in unpainted wooden surface or spit what you have just said (by saying "tfu tfu")
