Living in Warsaw as an Arab

Hi everyone!
I'm an Arab. I am a Muslim, but mostly from a cultural background and not very religious, and all my life I've been living with both Muslims and Christians, so I grew up in a secular environment. Only notable thing is I avoid drinking alcohol and eating pork.

I got an opportunity to work in Warsaw. I'm excited to travel to Poland, but I'm a bit nervous about my life in Warsaw. I am very friendly and willing to adapt, but I'm shy, and even though I'm learning Polish (difficult), I will be mostly using English for communication initially.

What do you think, and what tips do you have?

Thanks!

Assalam alaykum

You will be just fine especially in Warsaw which is now getting to ne more and more cosmopolitan, I would suggest you pay a visit first see how you get on, I think it is quite possible to buy halal food and there is a mosque.

As in every country there are idiots especially the football hooligan types , just stay away from them, but on the whole Poland is a very safe country compared with the rest of Europe.

I avoid drinking alcohol and eating pork.

It is good and bad news. Good coz we don`t need more winos here, bad coz eating pork belongs to basic elements of Polish culture.

but I'm shy,

Now, that is some obsession with this shyness. Every other new poster here is shy.

Thank you! It seems it's a cool place.

@pawian
Well, guess I'll stick to Kebab, or Arabic restaurants, hehe.

What about the language spoken? Is living with English fine (until perhaps learning more Polish)?

you are kind of ok in the big cities but learning Polish is a must if you are going to travel and integrate. in rural areas not many people speak English.
