Tell you one thing - whenever we go on holidays and are staying near a disco or club, this fekking song is always a number one. When Poles hear it, they virtually go crazy and drą mordy like hell and smash the disco into small pieces.

That is why whenever I hear it I go mad.

in the chorus there are two versions sung on various youtube versions:
Hej, hej, hej sokoły
Omijajcie góry, lasy, doły.
Dzwoń, dzwoń, dzwoń dzwoneczku,
Mój stepowy
Dzwoń, dzwoń, dzwoń
and
Hej, hej, hej sokoły
Omijajcie góry, lasy, dzki poly
Dzwoń, dzwoń, dzwoń dzwoneczku,
Mój stepowy
Dzwoń, dzwoń, dzwoń

so either mountains, forests and valleys or mountains, forests and the wild fields.
The song was first recorded in writing in the early years of the 19th century but who knows how old it was.
There are some similarities in musical form as well as content in 'A Cossack rode over the Danube' which is generally dated to the mid 18th century.

I went poking about when I had first seen Ogniem i Mieczem.

Omijajcie góry, lasy, dzki poly

That`s wrong, the second version is góry, lasy pola, doły.

mountains, forests and the wild fields.

..fields and valleys.
