Need some Polish language help.....with a twist!

this is where you are so wrong. my lodger corrects my mistakes every day. i do not need to learn polish, but its interesting for me. yes, dont need to get to a higher level, and yes i will never learn the language well, but i wont stop trying. my friends help me all the time, and respect the fact that i am interested enough to try to learn their language.dont be so negative:)

Nope. My phrases don't mean that. That's why I asked how Lyzko would translate it but I guess his translation is wrong as well. I mean "How are you" maybe is ok, unless it's a question reserved only for "how is your day". That's definately not a question about your day. ;)

"Are you comfy?" would be closer, still it doesn't convey the ambiguity of that question.

- Jak ci jest? Wygodnie? Mogę się posunąć, aby zrobić ci więcej miejsca.

Pam, I was not being negative! I personally think it's just awesome that you as a fellow American particuarly, want to learn Polish!! My point was simply that certain Poles might stereotypically conclude that you're only learning it for touristic purposes, which may or may not be the case! Actually, I was giving YOU the benefit of the doubt instead:-))

I agree with you, rozumnienic! And I encourage her to do as she's doing. Happy to see at least one of my theories dispelled, namely, that Poles are reluctant to correct her Polish! Germans sure were all too willing to correct my German when I was young student. Too bad it didn't work in reverse, but then, that's another story!

Well, fellow English speaker at any rate ^ ^!!

Then again, the Brits pick of languages much faster and more willingly than we do on the other side of the Pond. Not to mention their own mother tongue, many English whom I've met, even holding relatively mundane positions, seemed to know French quite passably. Others spoke fluent German.

When I first started to learn the language I found it impossible as well, couldn't keep up with fast flowing adult conversations.

However since my child has been born this has all changed. Because the wife speaks to him on a very basic level I can understand what is being said much easier, and then join the dots with the areas that I don't.

So my conclusion is, if you want to learn Polish, have a baby!!!

...or even one better; if you want to learn any (foreign) language, BE a baby!! After all, succesfful and spontaneous language acquisition is the most childlike (as opposed to 'childish') of all human endeavors:-)))

Hi everyone. Long time no speak. Just thought i'd let you know that I've not forgotten about all of the advice you've given me here and am finally starting to pick the ball back up and get regimented in my learnings :) I start some new Polish clases tomorrow at a University near to me (beginner not Uni level obviously :p). Going back over all the helpful tips in this thread and going to start combining the lot......can't wat and am really excited :)

Hope you're all well everyone. Since this thread started I've been promoted from Project Manager to Programme Manager which basicaly means at the moment I have even less time haha! On a happier note though I have seen lots of international companies in Krakow recently, Google, Shell, HP and Cap Gemeni to name a few..........there could be hope for me yet :)
