Travel / Buying a car in Poland for short term use and then sell it afterwards [3]

@Cargo pants
Thanks, I might just send a car to Poland for use when I or someone from my family visits.

P.S. I have the new Polish drivers license that expires some time next year due to me wearing contact lenses. Without them it would have been good for 10 years.

Travel / Buying a car in Poland for short term use and then sell it afterwards [3]

So as the title says. I'm traveling to Poland for about 8 weeks, and it would be very helpful to have a car while I'm there. Renting would be too expensive and I don't want to be borrowing from family. How practical is it to buy some used car in Poland, register, and insure it. Drive it for 8 weeks and then sell it? To make things simpler, I still have a valid Polish drivers license and I may still be registered to an address in Poland.

Polonia / Polish community in Switzerland [10]

@Cargo pants The Polish food has gone downhill recently. I stopped buying the meals from Piast when I ended up with food that seemed like it had been heated up yesterday. And apparently, Piast is supposed to be one of the better ones. Regarding the fake Biedronka, I wonder how they get around trademark infringement issues regarding use of the logo and name. I guess the Biedronka in Poland could care less and or there's very little they can do.

Polonia / Polish community in Switzerland [10]

Hello all, I'm contemplating a move to Switzerland with my wife and two kids. We are currently in NJ in the states and are both Polish born, hence a move to Switzerland would be convenient when we want to visit family in Poland. Does anyone know of Polish communities in the Zurich area?

Work / Relocating to Poland for work [10]

I think you'll be OK as you have no family to support. The wages in Poland have increased over the years, but so as inflation.

News / Should Poland pay for gas in rubles? [169]

The Baltic pipeline from Norway will be active some time in the fall. LNG shipments are contracted from the US. The price of gas will be higher, but it will be a kick in the balls for Putin when the rest of the EU follows suit.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

Poland can't do anything. Putin has Lukashenkas back. In fact, Putin is notorious for such acts. See article below:

USA, Canada / Difficulty in getting an appointment for a Polish passport (New York area) [3]

Has anyone else tried to book a date for a passport appointment? I've been trying for the past few weeks on the NYC consulates website, but it keeps saying its not available. Apparently, they are made available every working day at 8PM, Eastern time. However, when I check the website at 8PM Eastern time, it appears as if they've all been taken.

News / How do Poles feel about Biden? [59]

I think Biden will get along great with the EU, and Poland ruling party Pis will be placed under pressure to "behave themselves". Other than Hungary, they won't have anybody else who will have their back.

Same goes for the UK. Biden will favor good relations with the EU over those with the UK. Boris will have to reconsider the relationship he wants to have with the EU. Perhaps he shouldn't have waster so much time.

Life / GPS Satellite Navigation systems for driving in Poland [22]

I've used Metroguide Europe for my Garmin 76S. THe only thing about my GPS is that it has a small screen, so you have to use it with care when driving; However, this GPS packs quite a punch. I've used it when hiking in the Mountains, I've used it on bike trips. I recommnend Garmin to anyone looking at GPS's.

Below is what you would expect from Metroguide software.
