Law / How to have Certificate of authenticity of Polish driving license [14]

Well if you have a polish drivers license and took the test to get it then it is authentic... and if you have one that is fake that is trying to be passed of as real you can get in a lot of trouble. But it's yours so you should be okay anywhere within the Eu...

Polonia / Polonia in Uruguay [30]

Well he was a student down there about a year ago. He said the health care systems weren't horrible but that they weren't Swedish Standard (where he was from) he also was the kind of person who if he got sick he relied on herbs and vitamins, holistic medication. He rented a house with two other people for $800 a month (split) he said electronics were very expensive though. Everything else was about the same price if not cheaper than costa rica

Australia / HELP! Australian wanted to apply for Polish Passport via ancestory [51]

Yea it takes a whole lot of time and patience because things have tendency to become lost. Also it is very very tricky. Check out this letter from an earlier thread

Recently, I emailed the Polish Embassy in the U.S. regarding this very question. Here is their response:

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

my god Poland has been invaded and taken over so many times that there could be all kinds of nationalities floating about in the DNA. Wow lets see where can we start German, Russian..........

Oh yeah I know that Mongols and a lot of others. It just be interesting to see someones results from poland especially because it has so many different nationalities.

Also, do any of you get told you look Czech? Sometimes I do, but I'm not sure what they supposedly look like.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

lol maybe somebody took the photo out of line so the girl in the front is made to look like the main stay in the picture

Quite possibly.

And on second thought dpietz I could see where you might be told you look Hungarian.

You know earlier in the thread there were some people talking about how you shouldn't generalize the looks of a group of people, but every polish woman I know you can tell from the shape of the face and/or the cheek bones.

USA, Canada / Any Poles in Texas! [61]

St. Marks is an all boys school.

Mckinney and Plano are both really great schools to go to. The state schools in Plano are very nice and the ones in Mckinney are too.

Do people find venomous snakes in their gardens?

I haven't seen a venemous snake in my garden, but I have seen them in a lot of other places.

Do schools run busses to collect/return children home every day?

Yes they do.

This website will tell you everything

txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/movingtotexas.htm

I believe you have to pass the written and driving exams. The tests are a lot easier then the Uk driving exam there.

Genealogy / Why are some Polish people dark complected, and others very light [511]

I just had my DNA genetic profile done, and it came out that I am completely Polish. This came as a complete surprise because most of my genealogy from the last 500 years is English, Irish, and Dutch. I have very fair skin with freckles, green/hazel eyes, and dark hair. Is my complexion common in Poland?

When I was younger I had blonde hair but now I am a lot like you. Also how much did you pay to get the dna profile done?

USA, Canada / Any Poles in Texas! [61]

yep, that would be Southlake... family friendly, good school (Carroll ISD), clean...but expensive...

Yeah I actually lived in Southlake. I went to Carroll for two years but, then I went to private schools because Carroll Isd cut all there funding for arts, humanities, and languages and then gave the rest of the money to sports and Robin Hood. I actually ended up going to Dallas International School. It was amazing.

about guns.... all people i know here own a gun...

Yes, but they don't go around carrying them places.

no it's not a desert. Dallas is loud, green, and for the most part friendly. I've lived here for three years. Good private schools range from 5,000-15,000. Some of the best Catholic schools in the area for boys are Jesuit (boys), Cistercian (boys), St. Luke's (boys), Ursuline (girls), All saints (boys and girls) . The episcopal school of dallas is really good and full of international students, but it's not catholic. The Highlands school is good. All of these schools are exceptional schools. I only put the really good ones.

Dallas is nice. If you and your family have a reasonable income then you will be able to live a comfortable life here. Some parts of the suburbs in dallas are a lot nicer than others. Property tax in the places around here is a little insane because in Texas you don't pay state taxes.

Some great things about Dallas
-huge international population
-good private schools
-great place to raise a family (in most suburbs)
-heat is not always so bad. The heat here is very dry and not humid so it is more bearable than in other places

Not so good things
-some suburbs very expensive
-traffic is horrible and really no good public transportation
-weather is unpredictable (example last week it was 0 celcius today its 22)

All in all I like Dallas.

No there are not guns everywhere and you will not see any desert unless you drive west for about four hours.
