Life / Poles are not racist [873]

Henry Ford's grandfather John left famine-stricken Ballinscarthy, near Clonakilty, West Cork, with his family for America in 1847. Ford ancestors had been evicted from land in Somerset, England.........gee another displaced Englishman via Cork, Ireland!

But its ok....we don't mind giving him to ya......we got plenty more to share...:)

8. Computers, PCs

I think you'll also find the bods at Bletchley Park sorta got there first.....and during the 2nd World war!

3. Mass produced cars,

Hmmmm....not sure even this is correct......

So that leaves you with nukes and T Cruise....................not bad ....lol

But as a nation......the gud ol' USA is way down the international league of the relative indices of health, education and a whole raft of what the world believes is best!

PS But there are very few places that get it right!

News / 10,000 ISRAELIS READY TO CLAIM FOR POLISH CITIZENSHIP AND POLISH LAND! [628]

If it was stolen off them......and at the time they were Polish citizens, and now they are the children/grandchildren of same, they are just as entitled as the next Polish person to restitution.

If you suggest otherwise, then you are as guilty as the Nazis and Russians of taking it off them!

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

I have to admit I was surprised to learn that the UK only brought in the minimum wage in 1998 whereas it began in New Zealand in 1896 – more than a hundred years earlier

And whats the German minimum wage?.......eeeemmmmmm they aint got one! neither do a few other EU countries.

As ever its not wot you've got....but how you use it...hours as a total mean nothing, some countries 10/20/30% more productive per hour compared with the UK....presenteeism is a condition affecting many EU countries....people turn up to work ......but do feck all else!

In Ireland the Polish population are very well rehearsed in the hourly rates for all sorts of jobs, North and South..they have been very choosy and they challenge those offering less than the going rate, so in some respects they have put pressure on bosses to pay the correct wage......no doubt there are plenty of bad payer/bosses ( including Polish employers!)all the same!

UK, Ireland / Polish opinion of England as a country and the English nation [64]

I think you will find that Polish immgrants work harder

There is an element of this....ie getting paid around £1 an hour in Poland to do a job ( if you were luck y enough as an under 25 yr old to have ANY job), and all of a sudden you can get £5 plus an hour for the same joband be able to do a second full time/partime job.....so your earnings potential has gone £40 a week in Poland.........to £300 a week in UK/Ireland....never mind the higher standard of living in UK/Ireland!

Like the Irish before them, the East Europeans do think the streets of London are paved with gold.......!

literally over night,

Oh, sorry you mis-interpreted my line.......didn't say it was over night.....( just check your knowledge of English....:)...)

blame the F ing managment that love cheap labour and shaft anyone to get it.

Such naivety in the ways of the world!

Yes, Bubb agree...but why does it have to be a negative impact......?

After all there are huge numbers of overseas nurses and drs in the UK.......without whom, the health service would crumble in a matter of weeks.

The same in other areas of work.....very reliant on non-nationals....UK has been swamped or indeed has welcomed, wave upon wave of migrants for centuries..some legal some not, this is just another chapter, there isn't a blue print for how many is too many...just anecdotal guesses from those whose job it is to guess.....then get it wrong...:).......aka...politicians, civil servants and other academic..."experts".

Back in the seventies that other beacon of humanity Idi Amin expelled 60000 or so Asians from Uganda, literally over night, with just the clothes they stood up in and £100 or so in exportable cash..........it was no fun for a while......but they made in the UK, this time Polish people arrive legally, most speak reasonable english, hold down 1/2/3 jobs, act responsibly, pay their taxes and positively contribute to the British nation.

I'd say good on them......I salute their risk taking, attitudes and hard work........all necessary to succeed in life anywhere!

i really believe it is inevitable frank -

I will be optimistic B.........things are a lot different from 20/30/40 years ago when English landladies had signs in their windows saying "No Blacks, dogs or Irish"

Things have moved on considerably.....EU and national protections/rights, regulations and a lot more wealth to go around. Plus I think the Polish immigrant group will be pro-active in asserting themselves in difficult situations, they have pride, skills, good attitude..I spoke to one young Polish girl today who wanted info on equivalencies of her qualifications from Poland to the UK......her enthusiasm was palpably embarrassing!

Polish people will prove an asset to the EU as long as their our government doesnt stand in their way, not other governments and groups act like primitives.

inevitable

Guys...is Enoch Powell alive and well.................................on this board...come on!!!!????

The only inevitabilty is a downturn in the economic cycle....plus if immigrants either appear better off at someone else expense or if they feel poorly treated, things may get a bit fractious......as long as there are jobs, and things expand...it will all be hunky dory......but not inevitable, in the sense that it will all end in tears!

I thought that the government recently admitted to mistakes on this issue.

It was no mistake W, this was a measured and considered approach to making the UK more competitve, keep wage demands low, new blood that isn't that foreign plus the first waves of immigrants would usually be the most innovative, well read, qualified types, suiccessful ......esp if from Poland.

No-one can predict how it will turn out....just look at Northern Rock!!!

spiraling out of control

Says who...who determines enuf is enuf? No rules, no legislation.......suffice to say, they are all free to go and visit work and live in any part of the EU!

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

only on looks.

But its a hell of a good start.........or if either party is as ugly as sin.....straying is inevitable!!!

When will either party learn.........each one has something the other wants.......it all depends on how you go about getting it....or what you are prepared to sell it for.....effectively.......lol

My 2 cents worth

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

Not really sure Daffy......but its all relative, plus what you know, how you've been raised, expectations etc.....

Poland has a bit to go....but sure as hell they have more to smile about now than they did in 1949,1959,1969,1979,1989(just)..........
