Life / I love Poland, but... [58]

It's really hard to say in this country, because of **** politics here. I consider immigration. I sometimes feel like I don't fit here, mentally, culturally and even to some degree lookswise.

What I'm still not clear on, is whether you are upset or worried in some way

I'm curious actually about whether I'm mixed or not, I think the First Polish Republic used to be diverse and I'm kinda longing for that.

But I don't know, what other people would think of it.

@delphiandomine @jon357 @Ziemowit @Atch @dolnoslask

Thanks for responses.
I don't want to come off, as someone having particular leftist delusions, because I'm a centrist (I hate both left and right), but there are four issues:

- Poland is seen by mainstream media as a racist country, on top of that, many foreigners have that stereotype of Poles being blond-haired and blue-eyed.

- In Poland sometimes hate crimes happen, I think it's merely minority doing that, but minorities are oftentimes the most vocal about their views.

- I was always curious about my family's history, what they did, whether they were peasants or noblemen (I think I have some significant complexes about being peasant here, because village heritage is still badly seen in Poland, as they are "backwards" and voting for PiS all the time.

- Some Polish people, upon seeing people like e.g. Julia Wieniawa, Urszula Dudziak (singer) or some celebrity that posseses some exotic look, they assume they are Jewish and the hate comments are sometimes visible on Interia, WP, Pudelek etc.

So, that's why I act like this, like I'm afraid of something. A lot of mainstream media have been telling that Poland is close to Nazi Germany with such views (those are not my views, as I incredibly hate far-leftists), but yeah, in Poland there are certain bad vibes.

Oh goodness... I wrote a lot about that.

This guy apparently has a lot of complexes due to his exotic look.
Polish required.

Language / Am I the only person that can't sing in Polish at all? [48]

There is an another problem with Polish I have that was discussed on this thread on the 4th page (in fact, it's a continuation of this thread).

https://polishforums.com/language/biggest-problem-85425/4/

But rather than just complain look for models of vocal projection.

@mafketis

In Poland there is not much of diversity in singing, since for example a certain way of singing (e.g. hitting the high notes) is considered "gay" or "queer".

There aren't many singers in Poland I would like, except Paweł Birula from Exodus, Janusz Panasewicz from Lady Pank and maybe Józef Skrzek from SBB etc. That's just my personal taste.

This guy, despite being right-wing, has an interesting take on DNA tests.

Look at that comment section.
Not saying I believe them, though.

@Atch @dolnoslask @mafketis @Dirk diggler

I'm afraid I would have to do the DNA test for my heritage, yet it's so expensive and there is a conspiracy that your organs might be sold, if you take the DNA test.

I'm allegedly of Polish noble descent, as my mother said (Pobóg coat of arms), but I'm not certain about the rest, later I'm gonna tell you all the details, if you respond me.

Language / What is your biggest problem with Polish language? [158]

DuszaStracona

It's "ZagubionaDuszyczka", actually. LOL

How then do you communicate successfully with educated English native speakers

Ordinarily.

Do you catch our irony, double entendre, constant puns?

No, because I have Aspergers. I don't catch the Polish irony, either.

@jon357
I found out that Welsh is also a language with the second-last syllable stress. Well, that sort of explains, why I found every song sung in Welsh a bit "off".

Life / Polish TV is so goddamn awful! [7]

I mean, look at that. Politics are the greatest obsession of Polish people, every TV channel has some elements of politics, pseudo-documentaries (paradokumenty) are a real plague, also the Turkish soap opera. Disgusting. I just can't watch Polish TV at all, why can't we have something similar to the Western television, where there is some positivity? In Polish TV, there always has to be drama and more drama. At least in 2000-2009 there was Hugo on Polsat.

Billie Sparrow actually made a video on this matter:

the modern pronunciation is probably better for singing (less obstruction)

Yeah, I have to admit, I even feel awkward, when trying to speak with "dark Ł" on daily basis. Dunno, probably because some might perceive me as someone somewhere from the East.

But rather than just complain look for models of vocal projection...

Don't mention Czesław Niemen, because I find his vocals annoying.

In Poland there is not much of diversity in singing, since for example a certain way of singing (e.g. hitting the high notes) is considered "gay" or "queer".

Also the Polish general affection for rough scratchy voices means too many singers aren't trying to produce clean sound

Like you stated.

The dark "Ł" sound isn't much common, nowadays. Many people in Poland think you have the Ukrainian accent, when you use it on a daily basis.

The dark "Ł" sound used to be an obligatory trademark of any person, who could use Polish properly.
Besides, nobody seems to care about the proper diction, nowadays. Mostly actors do that, but it's not like it used to be.

I think a lot of Polish singers over emphasize consonants

This! Thank you for an answer I wanted to get. I had that in my mind.

Trying to make Polish sound more like English doesn't equal 'better'.

But it could sound like this, though.

youtu.be/2xlKRtF9FkE

The consonantal clusters however do.

There is an another factor for the fact some musicians find it uneasy to sing in Polish. Small amount of masculine rhymes. There was a time, when feminine rhymes were considered A MUST, when singing in Polish.

@mafketis
I think Polish language also tends to sound aggressive, because of lots of swear words in Polish. We have to admit, Polish people are creative in this, but it is not nice for my ear. It's weird that swear words in English sound much softer for me.

I read that some people were stating that Polish is like German among Slavic languages, is this true for some people?
Anyway, a lot of foreigners tend to recognize us from the K-word. And they also say that we are not the most cultured people, that kinda hurts me to hear that.

Also, I'm gonna tell y'all that it's unfortunate that Polish language doesn't have too many diphthongs that would allow me to sing better (no, I don't count nasal diphthongs like ą, ę).

Language / What is your biggest problem with Polish language? [158]

I have a lot of problems with singing in Polish, because of the abundance of consonants and the second-last syllable accent.
In rock music it is particularly problematic for me. A lot of Polish rock bands prefer singing in English and it also bothers me a lot, because I wished there was more of Polish-language music, but when I listen to my own native language, I don't find it much surprising. As I stated many times before, Polish used to sound better during the pre-war time (look it up: Eugeniusz Bodo).

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Do you want any woman to bear those children??? Are you serious??? I would never do that in my entire life. Abortion even should be obligatory here. Google "chazaniątka" for more info.

You will find it the other way around , people with downs syndrome are the ones being abused

Yeah, some nasty people like taking advantage of disabled, that's unfortunate. So, I don't say, every person with Down syndrome does it. But mostly, they are not aware of the consequences of their actions.

Nevertheless, don't force me to deliver a child with disabilities, because you are so God-fearing. I'm an Atheist-Agnostic. Not every Polish person is Catholic.

Even then, I was perfectly fine with the earlier compromise.
I don't want to give birth to a child with disabilities. It's bad for economy and my money. I'm sorry, for example children with Down syndrome are not like people think, it's a cutie. There were cases of rape of mothers by people with Down syndrome (seriously, they don't know, what they're doing, they are not aware of consequences). Such actions are forgivable, because it's a disabled person that did this.

People that suffer of cerebral palsy, have it worse, they can't move. So, it's even worse for economy.
I'm sorry, I just don't agree with it, it places us among the countries like Somalia, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia and other African, Latin American or Arabic hellholes.

The map clearly shows it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law#/media/File:Abortion_Laws.svg
