News / Poland's economic future? [294]

@Dougpol1
Yea, if you're going to shoot off at the mouth about his "hatred," and then when presented with the evidence about why your statement is hyperbolic and patently untrue, choose to obfuscate and change the subject; then yes I am going to call you out on it for making a statement which you are either unwilling or incapable of backing up with evidence. If you further try to distance yourself from it, I am going to reiterate it once again until you present some evidence or issue an apology. So do we want to rehash the statistics about the violent crime in Europe and who's committing it, or do you want to continue to misconstrue factual information as 'mean' 'racist' and 'hateful' ?

@Atch
It would be about as insulting if TheOther who is living in America were to tell me I am less American because I'm currently living abroad. It's MY country and NOT his. In this case, Dougpol is a GUEST in Poland, while Dirk is a CITIZEN of Poland, those are very very important distinctions and the precision of language when discussing them is important. Your 'feelings' about its perceived fairness is absolutely irrelevant, and the only thing germane to such a discussion is the LEGAL distinction and what rights are conferred to each party based on the distinction of citizenship.

Decided to abdicate on the coherent argument bit and just stick to anecdotes and personal insults against Dirk to obscure your complete lack of competence to discuss complex subjects like this, ey? Ok, fair play to ya.

News / Poland's economic future? [294]

They're more likely to report foreigners, can you please cite the study you are referencing which backs up this claim?

No, you are making a false equivalency. After the free movement of people Poles did not engage in running people over with box trucks, blowing themselves up at concerts, or committing 1,000 sexual assaults on a single night in a single town. The scale and proportion are completely different, you are comparing apples and oranges my friend.

This is all very easy to talk about because its not YOUR family member whose life becomes irrevocably damaged and changed due to these people. I'll agree with you about Syrian refugees and not ask you to cite the source, because I believe it to be relatively accurate. The issue is, NONE of the people other than Syrians have a legitimate claim to asylum, ergo they should not be in Europe, ergo they should be deported and repatriated at the earliest possible date, but first possibly serving a prison sentence in total isolation and solitary confinement. That would please me.

News / Poland's economic future? [294]

@Dougpol1

Let me clarify once again. I'm American, not Polish.

Moving on, I've taken a look at you rebuttals and I find them to be completely lacking in substance or coherence. Specific examples and facts are pointed out on the issue of citizenship, and you choose to move the goal post or to respond with your emotions rather than something resembling a logical argument. Second, with regard to some of the issues Dirk has raised about the deleterious impact of migrants, you don't refute any of the assertions made with regard to that impact, and write something rather vague and also completely irrelevant such as "do you parents know the "hate" you spew." For instance, if rapes in Sweden have not risen 50% since 2006 according to BROT, then refute that with a statistic that proves the counterfactual. If the 10% rise in all areas of crime in Germany is not committed by 90% migrants, then please regale us with the opposing statistics which prove such a point. However, you will earn no points here with your emotional nonsense and hyperbolic labels. That tactic is fast becoming a joke, and your labels are fast becoming totally irrelevant.

When you think you can write something resembling a coherent and factually based argument, feel free to join the adults. Until then, you've been bested.

@Dougpol1

You're moving the goal post in this conversation, lets focus on one thing at a time. I'm American, so I've never lived in Poland, I vote by absentee ballot in American elections. With regard to where Dirk has or has not resided, it's immaterial to the question of citizenship and what legal rights that grants versus non-citizens residing in a country. I've met plenty of people middle east who hold a US passport, and have never lived in America, however they still have more legal voting rights than a non-citizen who has lived in America for 30 years. So do you have any factually based argument to dispute that, or is your argument just basically "thats not fair!" ?

No moral right? Your morals are for YOU, my morals are for ME. Whatever you think is moral is quite frankly irrelevant, as what is legal is an entirely different matter, the only one that matters in fact. I vote by absentee ballot over here, and I donate to political campaigns that I believe in at home, because its my country. As an expat you have absolutely no legal right to influence the political process in the country that you're a guest in. You may have lived there 10, or 20 years, but until you attain citizenship you are merely a guest, albeit a long term one. These are inescapable facts, much to your chagrin it appears.

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1538]

You're all talking in circles. Israel has no business lecturing other countries about their laws while they recruit vigilantes to round up undesirable African migrants because they threaten the 'identity' of the Jewish state of Israel. So while they beat the war drum for an ethno-state, they cast aspersions on others as a rather blatant distraction. You know the saying, don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

@Dougpol1

I don't live in America right now, but I still have a voice in what happens in my country, while those in America working on H1B and permanent residents paying taxes have absolutely no say in influencing the policies of the government in my country. Borders are real, sovereignty matters, and citizenship is real. They are the only thing that make a country what it is. Citizens and non-citizens are a very clear distinction, harking back to the days of the Romans and the Greeks. It doesn't matter whether you don't "like" it or don't think its "fair." Feelings are not facts.

History / Roman Dmowski-Patriot, Nationalist, Anti-Semite? [237]

Given Europe's history with antisemitism it is just appalling to me that now people of your particular political leanings Atch, have decided hundreds of thousands of people with a mindset JUST LIKE THIS, should reside in Europe permanently. Brilliant.

"Death to the Jews,' and 'More stabbings,' the protesters screamed," recalls Jehoshua Kaufman, head of communications for Malmö's Jewish community.

@Atch

What do you mean you have sod all concern for Zionism? So a philosophy and doctrine that leads to the largest open air prison in human history and an apartheid style of governance is of no concern to you? I guess a lot of people said the same thing when Jews were being persecuted throughout Europe, by your logic Atch.

As to the idea that anti-semitism in general is on the rise in Europe, its nonsense. The only place there has been a real rise in antisemitism is in the neighborhoods most populated by people from MENA countries, which is why we saw 3,000 people chanting "death to jews" in Malmo,Sweden. They weren't indigenous Swedes.

Poland's neighbor has experience being the victim of lies such as that. I've no time for human rights abuses, nor do I have time for antisemites, but a peoples collective suffering and past does not excuse them from the mistreatment and subjugation of people in the present.

@delphiandomine

I'm a bit disappointed with you. Just when I thought we had found common ground, you cant help yourself but to go and make some rather childish pedantic comments. I can't tell whether you just took the bait, or whether you actually believe that tripe you wrote. Your job educating my children is not to imbibe them with your own morals, world view, or ideology, that's MY job. You have a lesson plan to follow, and that doesn't include your own underdeveloped and poorly thought out political philosophy. I really hope you didn't mean what you said, because I would hope that my kids teachers have more pure motivations than trying to jam a thumb in the eye of conservatives. I understand your yearning to assert some power over your life and your position, but having that manifest through the indoctrination of children is simply unacceptable mate. I think you realize that, and upon further reflection I hope that you will retract those statements made in haste and error.

@Bieganski

I agree with much of what you said, certainly with regard to the blow back of radical left policies and how they are helping to fuel the far-right, not to quell it. However, I must take issue with something you said, and maybe you can clarify what you actually meant afterwards. Ukraine was not 'created' by the USSR, Kyiv predates Moscow by 500 years, and Ukrainian language is unique, melodic, and beautiful. Ukrainian culture is distinct from Russia, and Ukraine has undergone many of the same struggles as Poland over the years, only Ukraine is still fighting its battle from within and without. I'd also have to say that Russia most certainly does not fear Poland, they may fear NATO, but they're currently invading the country with the largest standing army in the entire continent and seem to be none too deterred. Purely on the sheer quantity of equipment, there isn't much of a match. Russia's biggest fear is to have a functioning, successful democratic state with a high standard of living on its borders. This is one of the reasons that Putin cannot allow Ukraine to reform its state and enter the European economic market, and one of the reasons Miinsk 2 tried to push for a federalized Ukraine. Anyway, just to be clear, I assume you were referring to the fact that the USSR established the Ukrainian SSR as a buffer to the west, which is completely true, I just didn't want your post to read like Ukrainian people were some artificial creation of a bunch of drunk Russians eating polmeny all day.

News / Americans incite hatred towards Russia in Polish media [75]

You mean like the fake satellite photo released by the Russian government which said it showed a Ukrainian jet shooting down MH17? Despite the fact that the jet in the picture is not an SU-25 as they alleged, or that an SU-25 cannot fly past 25,000 feet, or that the cloud patterns match a photo from 2012. This kind of absolutely insane and proven to be false nonsense was broadcast on Rossiya 24 and Channel 1. Explain that one? I won't hold my breathe, because there is absolutely no way to defend this except to say yes, they are total liars who would go so far as to cover up their involvement in the murder of almost 300 innocent European citizens.

This gets funnier as the same day Israel announces it's going to allow citizens (vigilantes) to arrest the African migrants they were trying to pay $3,500 a piece to leave the country voluntarily or face prison time. So it could very well be a deflection for this very REAL violation of human rights.

You got a little carried away. The United States defends Poland, the 87 tanks, 144 IFVs, and the 4,000 men and women there are American service members. The 400 Marines in Norway right now, are Americans, not Brits. You lot can barely defend yourselves, pipe down.

News / Americans incite hatred towards Russia in Polish media [75]

@Ktos

Well, if you're such a fan boy of the Russians, shouldn't you at least be able to speak, read, and write their language so you can consume Russian media and Russian literature? Must be embarrassing that the American can do all of the aforementioned while you rely on translations. Have you actually lived in a country that speaks Russian predominantly? If you haven't then your opinion about their culture and mindset means sod all to me, it's just speculation on your part.

Russia creates its own headaches with its poor behavior and yearning to be a world player when it's got an economy as big as Italy's, but occupies the largest land mass in the world. They rely on Western (read, AMERICAN) technology to pull oil and gas out of the ground in the more austere environments in Russia. It would be fine if Russia wanted to be a trustworthy partner on the world stage, if the caveat wasn't an aggressive posture toward its neighbors and in Putin's own words saying that small nations don't deserve sovereignty. He's isolated all of his friends including Lukashenko, and most recently Nazarbayez by saying "Kazakhstan hasn't traditionally been a state." The revanchism that Russia is engaging in is why it's neighbors, and world partners do not trust Russia as far as they can spit. The coverage of Russia may be somewhat overblown, but it's certainly not without some merits. It thinks it can dictate the policies of the sovereign state of Ukraine, an cleave parts of its territory off because of things that happened 50 and 250 years ago, despite making agreements in 1993 to the contrary. RT's coverage is no less fair and balanced with regard to the United States, so the cloth cuts both ways.

Yea Ktos? I speak Russian, what about you? There is nothing magical about their barbaric culture of subjugating their neighbors and turning them into vassal states. Present day Russia is an aggressive neighbor that doesn't have a place at the table with world powers. Why did Russia need to modernize in the 20th century? Because they wanted to have the things which England had already had for 500 years, and the things which Romans had for 1,000 years prior. Presently it is little more than a gas station pretending to be a country, where domestic violence has been legalized, where the average life expectancy for males is 58, where alcoholism runs rampant, 1 in 10 don't have indoor plumbing, 1 in 5 don't have hot water.

Meanwhile, in my home country, the most powerful and wealthy country to ever exist in human history, we have all of those things. You're typing your tripe on things invented by my fellow countrymen, using social media invented by my countrymen, and if you're holding an iPhone holding a piece of American innovation. pashol na khui suka

@ZalMer

You have lost all credibility by giving cover to Russian war criminals. They lost thousands of soldiers in pursuit of their own goals and their own ends, they didn't do it for the sake of anyone except for oppressing half of the European continent.

@dolnoslask

Brilliant idea mate. I think a statue of two Russian soldiers raping a Pole in the middle of town squares would be absolutely brilliant, historically accurate, and the most important to me, it would anger Russians in Russia who still wish their gas station masquerading as a country was a world power.

Right so that mirrors what she's told me. The majority of people who live around her all own businesses in other parts of Poland, as theres not a plethora of jobs or industry in this part of the country, and all of the houses look like they're built to suit.

Lol, luckily her mom owns 2 homes and a good chunk of land, so that would be unlikely, but yes absent the possibility of being able to rent, we probably won't be ready to live there for 2-3 more years. That PLN thing may be an issue, as all of the foreign countries I've worked in, I've only ever been paid in USD or GBP, and never in local currency. I wonder if depositing the USD into an account in zloty every month would satisfy that requirement?

Lol yea, I will probably hold off and just buy it in cash in a couple of years. Her moms house is on a dirt road, really gives it some character! Although I must say the houses on this dirt road could rival most American homes, they're huge and nicely put together and landscaped.

Hey thanks for your reply. No, I'm not a Polish citizen, I'm marrying one. I receive my money in USD to my US bank account via direct deposit, although based in Horn of Africa/Middle East region. I tried Hamilton May, but as you rightly pointed out, they insisted that I be a resident of Poland and receive an income in PLN.
