That's a fun story Atch, but not reality. There are only 37,000 Latter Day Saints (the polygamists) in America, a country of 320 million. For the most part ultra-conservative Christians are shunned from society, and there are no institutionalized laws in their favor. That stands in stark contrast to entire countries where the status quo is honor killing, FGM, and the death penalty for homosexuals. They are incomparable, one is essentially a medium sized cult movement, the other is an endemic threat to humanity. Given those facts, importing thousands upon thousands of people who have grown up in a regressive, violent, and backward culture is not the future I'd like to see for my country or the countries in Europe, and I doubt you'd like to see such a future either. I certainly have no time for a 3rd generation "Asian" who despite living in our progressive Western society still adheres to those extreme doctrines, it is absolutely inexcusable. It's pervasive in their communities, even within Britain, and it is unacceptable.

I would recognize one problem among the educated 2nd and 3rd generation Pakistanis that you cite is that they are still ultra-conservative, believe in arranged marriages, honor killings, and discourage marrying outside of their racial group. Despite education in highly skilled careers, they're still not too progressive. So are they the sort of people we want to import into our countries? Really? How many people have you spoken to from Donbas? Know anyone who has actually fought there? What an absolute joke. I watched it. While the facts in the video are accurate, the message gets lost easily when the person delivering it is a Kremlin apologist who believes in multipolarity, and blatantly lied about 'Neo-nazis" in Kyiv being armed by the United States. He is an RT sock puppet, so his credibility is easily impugned. Granted, it's not a story that anyone that wishes to keep a career in journalism would ever undertake.

We agree on that. When I graduated undergrad in 2010 there was a hint of this, but for the most part college was a place where you learned how to think critically and evaluate arguments in a critical way. That's since been replaced with arguments from emotion which are wildly subjective and not based in reality. The conflict in Syria has maybe 1 year left on the clock before the legitimate government reasserts control over the majority of the territory save for perhaps the small parts which the terrorist government of Turkey is occupying. There is a plethora of information on legal immigration to the United States, obviously this information is heavily tracked. I think the quotas you stated are reasonable, I'd like to see legal immigration brought down to about 100,000-300,000 persons per year in the United States, versus 1.49 million last year.

I notice Atch that you mention their small numbers, relative to the population of Ireland. This is a very smart policy, one which the rest of the EU member states would be wise to copy. Setting strict numbers on who can enter and how many from where, and where they are placed within the country. One piece of information that those who support these immigration policies never seem keen to answer is when I ask them, what is the number? How many immigrants can country 'X' accommodate per year? We have the same debates in America about what the cap should be, per year. The Democrats are always unwilling to commit to a number. Of course, this is an absolutely essential thing for any country with finite resources, as population increases result on heavier use of infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and emergency services. It's now a proven fact that unfettered low-skilled low-wage immigration is NOT a net positive for a country. So why we would continue pursuing such disastrous policies is beyond me. I can do with being called immoral if it ensures that the American and European way of life continue, and that the social fabric and traditions are maintained.

Most people say that those words mean something to them, and if you said the same thing I would tell you that your behavior indicates otherwise. Guns are just part of everyday life where I'm at. Yes, you're correct, I shoot them, train with them, build them as a hobby and business. I still don't believe in pushing my own views of firearms ownership into a unique society that does not have the same affinity for them. That's a Polish prerogative.

Well, we are really starting to get into some speculative areas, with how exactly a popular uprising would play out, and I know we all hope it doesn't. My opinion is that there would be mass defections if orders akin to the kind you were hinting at would attempt to be implemented. In addition to the large size and population of the states versus the number of people in the military. Anyway, I think we can just agree that we view the potential outcomes differently and therefore the necessity for the citizens to have these weapons.

Fortunately, we both agree on more extensive background and mental health checks for gun ownership. I agree that it is entirely too lax in some states, but those of you commenting should understand that gun laws across the country are not a monolith. In my home state it is a process to get a license for purchasing a weapon, and each handgun must be individually licensed (not the case with long guns). The process is not overly cumbersome, but a minor inconvenience. In fact, the process I went through to get my concealed handgun license when I was 21, was much less intense than the process of obtaining the license to buy firearms in the first place. So, I think we can do a much better job at the point of sale. I am open to hearing about a road map to require say, an interview with a psychologist to sign off on a firearms purchaser card, every time its renewed which is every 5 years. Of course with this sort of compromise with the left, I would like to see a bill which gives reciprocity for concealed handgun permit holders so that they can carry in all 50 states, and do not have to navigate an intense road map of laws every time they cross state lines with their handgun on them.
