Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

I was referring to how Poles feel towards the two if they had to chose between the two. So it would be Russians? Say I were to go to Poland, would I get dirty looks or when you guys say I wouldn't stand out do you mean I'd fit in?

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

I assume the younger ones would be more interested than the adults. Then again, it can be vica versa. Again, this is an assumption. My guess is if you go to a small town, they'd be more curious than anything like it seems to be in the US. Poland is really different in culture though, too. The manners of people and way of life. If Germany is accepting like they are now due to military bases, I wouldn't worry about Poland.

Love / Polish boyfriend and swearing [15]

Sounds like a respectable guy. Yes, this is a normal custom. This would be an "old custom," in the US.

I'd just like to get an idea. The comment about the guy stopping and staring gave me a laugh. Thank you. I have to say, that is odd that he dresses like that but nothing surprises me.

He may be different, but that's not bad. It sounds like he wants to make a good impression and highly respects you. Which, is a sign of love.

I've seen trannies, drag queens, and all that but I've never seen a trucker with a skirt. Anyway, that's what I feel with my friends who're Slavic, as well. Matter o fact, the Russian friends are the ones who said I look like I could be Russian.

No. It shouldn't make a difference. It sounds like he cares, especially if he goes out of his way to hush them or correct them.

Yes. I've heard that superstition. I've wondered about that. People of Slavic descent tend to bald "earlier" than let's say, the Irish. But my grandfather who was full Pole didn't recede until his fifties, so I guess that varies.

Irish being one of the most dominant cultural backgrounds in the US, most I've seen have really thick, wavy to curly hair. Typically brown despite the stereotype. That was my concern about fitting in actually. My nose seems smaller than most slavs though.

Yes. That also explains variations in Krakow. I want to choose a smaller city where I can enjoy the view, but not be in the middle of no where. Suggestions?

Maybe. But the fact that he shuts his friends up shows he cares. I know a lot of guys who swear and couldn't care less what their women feel which bothers me. If he's considerate, he cares.

He has manners. I like this guy's way. Hard to find Americans with manners these days.

Thank you, Jon. Anyway, I have found I am a mixture of northeastern Polish and Southern Polish by looking back in history. My family started in Mazovia, then migrated further down.

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

Based on your pics, I'd say Czech. My family was in Poland way back in the 1200s(recorded history, but even before then I'm just regarding historical records and what family says) until the 1930s, visiting the US in the 1920s. I'm second generation. To answer your question, yes looks can skip generation's. Over time, looks will fade more and more the less Polish(or any ethnicity) happen to breed with the family. Eastern and Central Europe seem to have the most distinct features. Compare them to Western Europe and you'll see my point.

Meant to word it like, my family has been in Poland since the 1200s, maybe even before then. This is as far as I could look back with historical records.

You're welcome. I'd say she looks like you in the face, however her eyes are not shaped the same. She does look a little Spanish though but not much.

Genealogy / Popular Polish First Names? [152]

My grandfather's name is Chester. You might say it's old fashioned though.

Yes. I'm not sure why it's Chester, possibly because our family because our family is heavily Catholic. He was born in Poland. Never asked my great grandparents why the name is that way as they are dead. He came over in 1938. He immigrated to Chicago. Monika is a name I really like, too.
