UK, Ireland / Why are Polish people, especially women, so disrespectful toward the English? [437]

My advice to all the xenophobes on PF: If you don't want "those people" coming to your country, don't make England so damnably attractive and singularly inviting to such people! A drop-dead gorgeous female saunters down the street to cat calls, vulgarities, and groping, but then asks why.

@Cojestdocholery,
It's apparent you've never been to Torquay, nor have you visited Devon, Bornemouth or much of the North Country, or you wouldn't make such idiotic remarks!

Zakopane or Tatry have their own special beauty, but surely to poor foreigners especially, England offers material comforts probably unknown in Third World nations:-)

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [396]

Poland was erstwhile considered the country of farmland and space.
while Germany was the country of industry, technology, and know-how.
No longer!

While Germany is still the lean, mean business machine of the Continent, Poland is scarcely a backwater nowadays and is perhaps the Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe with a travel willing, financially flexible work force:-)

History / Why did Hitler call Poles Half Jews? [98]

Whoopi should stick to comedy and her own business enterprise, period!
Her comments of earlier this week made me sick and are an insult to both survivors as well as modern history.

Clearly she's as ignorant of world events as she is mega savvy about her industry.

Tough though to paper over a sterling reputation merely because of latent missteps in current leadership, Maf.
Sure Scholz looks thus far like lame duck, you can't erase generations of Siemens, Krupp, Schering, BMW, Audi, SAP etc. in a matter of months.

Uh-uh, pal. Ol' Germany's strong enough to survive on her own, we're not talkin' 21st century Marshall Plan here!

But you forget, the Nazis saw the Jews as a different RACE, essentially non-white, therefore, non-Aryan. Both you and Whoopie, it seems, got it wrong....again.

About the latter, I'm in utter accord, Milo! And it's been this strangling of free expression which to this day continues to equate "free" speech with unprotected hate speech.

It's up to the German education system to educate youngsters from early on, along of course with their parents, as to how to modulate expressing an honest opinion and prevent it from becoming a rant or tirade against another person or persons.

A break up of the EU on the other hand, would seem to empower PEGIDA and her supporters, making folks like Hoecke and Gauland more of a threat!

Maf & Milo,
Whoopie was saying verbatim now, that the Holocaust was NOT a racial agenda because Jews are white rather than colored. Sure, that's true, yet this was the opposite of what influenced the Nazis, who in fact saw the Jews as a separate race, thus, were in fact racists.

Merkel was indeed misguided on issues, chiefly, the migrant situation. She was in this respect a typical product of her generation, just as Adenauer was of his or any number of other German heads of state:-)

But the Nazis were the one causing all that inspeakably ghastly business in the first place and so you're arguing in a vacuum, as is Whoopie.

Also, your last sentence makes no sense. " What the Nazis thought is irrelevant. What they did isn't" is how it it should read.

Rwanda, as with the Yugoslavian crisis in the '90's, was considered more of an "ethnic cleansiing", not technically a genocide, since Tutus and their fellow tribesman belong to the SAME race, albeit to a different subgroup. Serbs and Bosnians were of different faiths, yet also both of the same race.

In the case of the Jews, Hitler's autobiography makes it abundantly clear that he considered the Jews for a different, moreover, an inferior, race, apart from that of Italians, French, Germans, Poles etc... Rosenberg as well as Houston Stewart Chamberlain a generation earlier wrote of a Negroid.

Oriental, White, and a Jewish race.

"I never miss ANYthing." Watch your grammar! Bottom líne, Whoopi got it wrong. She's no sinner, merely ignorant and needs to be enlightened. This is a teachable moment.

History / Kielce Pogrom - new findings by IPN [42]

What concerns many historians is that Kielce occurred even AFTER WWII, by the time Hitler was already confirmed dead and the Nazis had been defeated!

Where then was the impetus to continue killing Jews?

The Duda administration's trying to successfully disqualify such future claims as unjustified.
@gumishu, can't quite see the point of your post. To be sure, many Communists were indeed antisemites as well, but we already knew that.

History / Kielce Pogrom - new findings by IPN [42]

@gumishu,
The current administration has forthrightly decided NOT to review any further compensation (restytucja) claims from the present forward!
The government feels, rightly or wrongly, that Israel aka the Jews, survivors and their families are trying to bleed Poland dry and are making specious claims used solely for their own greed.

In my opinion, this is unconscionable, blaming all legitimate Holocaust survivors for the criminal excesses of a few who indeed falsified their past for financial gain.

This is the same thinking as rogue author Normal Finkelstein's assertion of a "Holocaust industry". Such is a punch in the face to all survivors who were forced to endure the unimaginable.

@gumishu,
scarcely a justification, is it?

@Oathbreaker,
Jews were always in the crossfire, political footballs, easily expendable, right?
Come on, man! We expect more of our fellow beings.
Being human means "even when it hurts"!!

I wasn't accusing you of anything, Oathbreaker. No need to be defensive.
I merely seemed to me that you were taking the other side.
Perhaps a language interference issue on your part, no matter.

I never once misrepresented myself, either to you or anyone else on PF.
Who's the toll now?!

I merely stated that Kielce was an ghastly example of post-War antisemitism, perhaps the most egregious until the advent of Ceaucescu.

Language / About usage of the special Polish letters: ą ć ę ł ń ó ś ż ź [28]

@Rich,
English will obviously NEVER "replace" the mother tongue of any EU nation, at least in private discourse, any more than Spanish could ever hope to replace English here in the US! International conferences will continue to use interpreters, as well they should, both for clarity's sake, not to mention sheer aesthetics.

The very notion is as idiotic as it is impractical:-)

Anyone can now google a word/phrase, but that is scarcely "knowing" another language, not even close. Brain cloning or the like is waaayy, way far into the future and so keep dreamin'. Furthermore, it's never enough merely to know a language through study, but to know it well to perfectly by dint of monastic focus combined with raw talent.Otherwise, plain forget about it and throw in the towel!

undefinedto throw in the towel = to give up on a futile pursuit Oh, don't tell me. Ya knew that one too LOL Bottom line here is that maybe (mis-)speaking English with locals was no prob for you, but just maybe it was for the locals, although they didn't care to admit it. Others might indeed have been greatful for the practice. Lord knows they sure need it, admit it or not:-)
