Isn't it more than 60% similar. 70%?

Maybe somwhere 70%.But to read versa and modern newspapers in Polish knowing only Russian is not very easy, of course,
Knowledge of at least Ukrainian is very helpfull.There is of course some difference between basic and older vocabulary and
modern or poetic expressions which inlude many strange case endings and tricky expressions.

Today, genetic closeness of nations is meaningless.

This is your opinion, but currently many Polish mass media including movies are trying to represent Russians
and Ukrainians as racially alien and inferior creatures.Many Poles believe that Poles belong to Germanic group
of people.This is what some of them claim on forums.You could believe that racial or ethical genetic differences
have no sense but it works only when everyone believes in the same.Personally I would be glad to see improving
relations between Poles and Ukrainians and step by step integration of Ukraine into EU as well as development
of democracy and human rights in this country.Even though I live outside of Ukraine.But Eastern European countries
should concentrate on helping each other to develop democracy instead scarry each other with some perverted racist
mind attacks and hate escalation.

I think it would be better for Ukraine to cooperate with European or German companies as currently Czechs and Slovaks do more successfuly.

Of course, shadows of the past may appear from time to time on both sides, but it is only natural.

Historical periods when Ukrainians and Poles fought together against common enemy were much longer than when they clashed with each other.For example they fought Turks successfuly and bit them out of Eastern Europe.

I think there is deliberate attempts to escalate hate toward Ukrainians.For example some badasses constantly place tons of harassing comentaries in Polish under each beauty Ukrainian song they could in YouTube find and especially if they see some positive Polish comments under the same song.

The films are by Jerzy Hoffman, the most pro-Ukrainian film director in Poland. His wife is Ukrainian, by the way.

Sorry,I didn't have chance to compare his "masterpiece" with works of those Polish directors who are trully anti-Ukrainian.And therefore judge it a bit biased.

But doesn't it seem to you than in 21-t century "love has no borders" theme would be much more appropriete than everithing that was shown in this movie?

Do modern children need to be educated on this medieval belch?

The film was very well received in Ukraine.

I didn't know that.One respons in Ukrainian newspaper just after movie reliese was very negative, an author bilieved that Ukrainians were downgraded.
Another Ukrainian woman I spoke with about the movie said Ukrainians in the movie are represented as cruel and she didn't like the move.

In With Fire and Sward, Hoffman portrays Polish lords savagely raping Ukraine.

I didn't remark it entirely.In the movie there was nothing about hardships that Ukrainians suffered and real reasons of uprising.Ukrainians are depicted just as meaningless rioters and bandits. (who burn villages etc.)

But so be it.The movie depicted some part of history.Lets wait for new and much better movies which will unite our nations and show sign to a brighter future.

First of all which documents could prove how many exactly people of which nationality killed Ukrainians?
And which relation to the theme does it have?I said there is no sense to make movie about sad events in Polish-Ukrainian
history.Ogniem and mieczem was sponsored by Polish government if I no make mistake.And better make some bright movie
about Polish-Ukrainian friendship.The events could take place in the future if the cannot find something in the past.
You said Ukrainians killed some Jews.Honesly why should I care even if they would kill millions of Tatars,Turks or Mongols
during the same time?At that time they killed many of those who allied with Poles or Polish government.Does it have any
relation to the theme of Polish - Ukrainian relations at least?

I'd love to see a good film, true to history, about Kmelnytsky uprising

"Ogniem i mieczem" based on true history?Do not make me laugh.For those who are interested in true history
there is documentary movie genre.Movies like O&M are not designed for those who are looking for a true history
movies.This is typical Hollywood blockbaster with good and bad guys.

Look at Germans who have dealt with their nasty history frankly and openly and now have the strongest state in Europe.

Polish - Ukrainian relations were not exactly similar to those of history with Nazies.Atrocities were mutual to a larger extent and I do not

see a sense to concentrate on it.Currently relations between Poland and Ukraine are vulnerable.Lets to fix it fist.

And Polaks are more similar to Czechs and Slovaks than Russians, why don't you focus on these countries instead?

Maybe these countries are just not populous enough to focus on them?Ethnic Czech + Slovacs who live in their homeland countries are
probobly no more numerous than 10 mln. While ethnic Poles in Poland are close to 35 mln.People are prone to compare something equal
in size.Poland and Ukraine is probably more adequate comparison.

This is modern Polish alphabet wich non-suitable for Polish language,cyrilic for Ukrainian works much better.
For example: When Poles use four caracters "szcz", Ukrainians use only one - "щ". Poles use two caracters - "ja", "ju","sz",

while Ukrainians only one "я", "ю", "ш".So which alphabet takes it longer to write?

Personally,I prefer cyrilic alphabet for reading.Latin alphabet is too vertically oriented.Cyrilic letters are wider
and easier to read.And yes,they use smaller amount of characters to describe some sound.

Don't need fancy studies, just listen to Slovak. When I do, I understand it, when I listen to Russian I don't understand it, simples. The OP doesn't understand that the language similarity very much depends on syntax, grammar, pronunciation as well as vocabulary.

Or you could post similarities between Polish and Slovak grammar,syntax,pronounciation etc.Of course I listened to Slovak.I could understand quite a lot of Polish but quite a little of Slovak.Even though I could understand lot of Polish trough Ukrainian it doesn't help me to understand lot of Slovak.There exist much of difference exactly in pronounciation and grammar.Even between Polish and Slovak.

Language Studies have proven that Slovak is more closely related to Polish than Russian. It's no surprise that all these words and similarities to each other.

I didn't say it's definitive.Though take as example such seemingly ancient words as:

English - Polish - Russian - Slovak

the normal word in Russian for horse is łoszad' and for dog -- sobaka.

Russian doesn't use ł sound. Only L. But kon' and pios are still regulary used in Russian.
They were not displaced.

Polish,Ukrainian and Russian all have tree genders: male,female and neuter.Three tenses: future,past and present.Polish and Ukrainian have seven cases: Nominative,Genitive,Dative,Accusative,Instrumental,Locative and Vocative.Russian regularly have six main cases: Nominative,Genitive,Dative,Accusative,Instrumental and Prepositional, though some additional cases including Locative,Partitive and Vocative are mentioned.Some of them are rarely used or incomplete.But particular word ending in cases between those languages are often different though there is some similarities.For example word beer in dative case will sound the same in three languages: Szklanka piwa (pol.), Bokal pywa (ukr.), Bokal Piwa (rus.)

Trees in Slavic languages have gender for a certain.And willow as you guessed it correct is of femenine gender.
Dub and Kl'on in Russian are on contrary masculine.
Genders are present in other European languages as well.French is one more example.German has three genders
as well.So English is rather exception.Six cases?Possibly.But Polish and Ukrainian have seven.

Roots and a language could be two different things. Also even if tribes 2000 years were close knitted they went their own ways and developed for the most part their own distinctive culture.

Which exactly tribes do you mean?If you talk about Slavic tribes there was no any mention of them before 6-th century AD.And based on language proximity and other data I think that predecessors of modern Poles and modern Ukrainians completely separated no more then 1200 years ago.What is not terribly long term.But even after that significant parts of Ukraine were under Polish rule for 500 years, there was lot of intermixing,cultural exchange,etc.

Distinct culture is a good thing.When people develope their distinct cultures it allows to make cultural exchange later and benefit each other.
Many Poles claim that they admire with some Russian writers,composers.And contra.

What are the typical facial features of Polish men/women and how do they compare to those of other Slavic people?

It's quite difficult to do since head form among Russians,Ukrainians,Poles etc, could be of different types,there is plenty of people
among these nations who have either rounded and elongated head and face form,pronounced or less pronunced cheekbones etc.
So its rather subtle features which makes most of difference and its hard to explain.In pseudo-scientific terms Poles have more commonly
West Baltid and Cromagnoid type while Ukrainians have more Gorid,Baltid Proper and North Pontid types.Russians have more East Baltid
types.I think that on average Ukraine and Russia have slightly more West Asian and Asian influence.Poles are very homogenous people by
European standards.Ukrainian woman have smoother features than Polish on average.But still there is plenty of similar types.

I think it is strongly exagerated.There is no so much visible Germanic/Celtic influence in Poles.They are one of the "purest" Slavic nations.

There is already have been many similar genetic "researches" conducted in Ukraine, for example, with quite strangely "results".So if you looking at genetic researches look for the source and proves.Haplogroup I1 divides in I1a and I1b.Poles have more I1b than I1a (similar to Russians).

There is no truthful genetic research conducted by independent Western researches based on thousands of samples which would make statement that Poles are way more closer to Germanics then Eastern Slavic nations.Even contra majority of such researches proves their relatively close proximity.

So take in account in some "researches" it could be exagerated.
