Food / Hopless beer in Poland? [31]

*The degree to which food has been chemicalised is staggering.

and disgusting. since Poland joined the EU the change in food manufacturing has become pretty much like the American methods. The people here are getting fatter faster. It is one of my obsessions- trying to eat natural and organic foods.

But there are some good local breweries that still produce natural beers. Tyskie et al. are nothing but factory produced beer with a good portion of their ingredients being corn products.

News / Smoking in Polish restaurant & cafe's is forbidden [15]

Outside should be exempted.

I disagree. The smoke still flows inside. In my osiedle the house next door is owned by smokers. They sit on their deck and smoke and it flows into our house. It is disgusting and we can't do anything about it. The same thing happens in restaurants. You are having a meal and the smell of smoke fills the restaurant from the outside in.

That was last year! This year it's all about burgers.

well, I can tell you that "Beligian Fries" places are popping up in Warsaw like crazy. And they are popular.

Genealogy / Polish Gypsy Seliga (Szeliga) and Bunk (Bak) ...Need opinions [32]

right, ok, so you are still going to argue with me that they look Polish? Now you have decided based on the name that they could have some Jewish influence? Go back and read my original post. They could be Roma, Mediterranean or Jewish. I said it from the beginning but instead of saying that I could be right you decided to be a condescending b1tch and was adamant that I was wrong.

Sorry, this group of people does not look typically Polish. And I realize that not all Slavs have the same features, they do have some Slavic features but I actually think they look like a Greek family.

Sorry, those people in the photo look as though they have a mixture in them. He is saying they are from south west former Austro Hungarian, so it makes sense. I am also not talking about a recent mixture but something that has happened quite some time ago.

you have your opinion and I have mine.

this is my thought too. Perhaps if you could spin it so that it is fresh fast Polish food, you might fare better.

Travel / Rihanna complains about lack of privacy on Polish beach [150]

Mullato is not necessarily offensive but it is a word that is not regularly used any more. I came about during the slave era so my guess would be that it has a bit of negative connotation towards it.

yes, but a lot are. And dark hair and dark features are not Slavic so based on those photos I would say they are mixed. I am not saying they are not Polish. But they are definitely mixed with some other group.

could you do something better than a kebab? it is street meat and although popular it is garbage food. I realize that you want to appeal to the masses that drive the route, particularly the truckers- but doesn't mean the food has to be crap.

What about lovely sandwiches on fresh bread?

Do something you like to do- not just scrape meat off a stick and sell it so you can pay the bills.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

I have seen a few electric cars in Warsaw- they all have been Prius', and quite a few taxi's. My husband leased a client that required 4 or 5 electrical hook ups for their cars in the building.

Polish people need to justify the cost. The country is not there in being eko friendly. And most of the nouveau riche need to have their big ass suv's over an eko friendly car.

News / Polish 'patriotic' brands? [14]

There are good Polish brands, however, Poland pushes the "foreign branding" idea to the limit. The majority of Polish owned companies all have English names.

ok, so then it is up to the Polish gov't to police the way foreign companies do business. Until then....we can boycott and that is about it.

no, but i don't want to pay any penny to a German company which treats its employees like slaves, pays them very low wages while simultaneously making record profit and takes the earned money out of Poland. Are you insane?

hmm.....I can't imagine people are fighting to become garbage men. If they don't like it then go to a different garbage company. You do know that this is not a high skill job, right?

And there are plenty of Polish companies that treat people like slaves and take their profits out of Poland too.

And then there are plenty of Poles working in foreign countries that take their money back to Poland. And of course there are many Poles claiming benefits in UK that no longer live in UK.

So, where do you draw the line at your boycotts?

newpip: Perhaps those anti Remondis would like to start their own garbage collection company? No, then shut it.
you don't know the company and neither you know their policies. You are not in a position for saying anything concerning that

so you're the local garbage man? Until a Polish company steps up to the plate and figures out the money in garbage collection--there is little selection. But I am a huge supporter of it being paid in property taxes. If you can afford a house you can afford to pay for garbage.

The biggest problem - look at the garbage containers in Poland. You can see through all garbage. And they are usually located in the central locations of town/villages. Looks ugly. But someone is saving money by making containers from wire instead of from full-cover plastic.

so you would rather look at garbage thrown on the sides of roads, in the parks and forests and generally everywhere??

It takes a bit longer in Poland, my estimate is that the mentality is about 15 years behind.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with making money off of garbage..... I remember having a conversation with an American who despised the whole "eko business" but yet had no problem with companies making money while creating garbage.

Very soon, a clever Pole will get the fact that there is a crap load of money to be made off of recycling

Most of the changes that are forced by EU regulations are far beyond the realities of everyday life here in Poland.

well then Poland should stop taking EU money and stand on its own.

Recycling is something that can be done by everybody no matter what their income is. Any excuses are bullshiit.

One of my biggest pet hates about Poland is the garbage everywhere and signs (reklama) everywhere. It makes Warsaw ugly, and it is not. Clean up the flipping garbage and take down the signs. That is it.

I know in Canada that the reason you need to rinse the containers first is that if they are not rinsed and left to go mouldy they could pose problems for those who work their, namely with mould spores in the air.
