Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

So do I, look forward to yet another thread by an aging red-scarf pioneer

Recently, I promoted myself to the rank of a COMSOMOL leader.

and so surprisingly considering the history and the geography I've noticed that in fact both have a lot in common, actually more than either side is willing to admit due their mutual prejudices ans so forth.

Very well.So could you detail it?What exactly they have lot in common?Usually, if person is eager to prove something he will provide lot of details and arguments. Why to avoid this interesting part?

Not a dream my dear comrades (of the homo-sovieticus variety) but a reality.

Why should I assume as a highest truth that this is reality?I do not know to much details which could prove it.

Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

If judge about Germans from German movies I cannot tell that they make some especially positive impression
on me.Well,at least they look quite far from those ``pure Arian`` types invisioned by Nazies.
In many German movies there is present some suicidal themes.
In one of the airports I saw some German couple about 40 years old and their behaivour differed a lot from
behaivour of North Americans for example. The husbend spoke to his wife with loud and orderly tone and behaived
like a boss and too protectively.Their behaivour seemed to me unusually patriarchal in comparison to many other people. And they somehow differed from other people.

But principally I do not judge about entire nation from a few accidental people.

German good qualities: punctual, orderly, cultured, open minded, healthy and mostly friendly.

I would be glad to hear mind of person who knows plenty of Germans personally and/or observed
their everyday culture and behaivour.

You must be kidding.

For example this is quates of people who pretend to be native Poles:

I'm polish born and I'm not so sure that before Hitler and Goebbels, German people hated Poles. I always thought that Poles had more in common with the German people then Russians.

ww2f.com/eastern-europe-october-1939-february-1943/13291-why-did-germans-hate-poles.html

And regarding origin I would claim that the modern Polish people are at least as related to Western European people as to Russians. Just imagine how many German settlers came to Poland in the Middle Ages. Most of them became part of the Polish nation very soon just like many people from Eastern Germany (Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania and Saxony) have Slavonic ancestors.

https://polishforums.com/news/poland-support-idea-slavic-unity-57128/2/

Is this the opinion of Russians? Many Russians pretend the same with regards to Poles, besides our common Slavic roots there's nothing that unites us.

I did not hear that Russians would pretend to have many common with Poles.Usually they claim it in regard Ukrainians and Belorussians what usually energetically denied by Ukrainian nationalists. But the question was about Germans, not Slavic people. But you opened another interesting question:

Could you detail such an interesting statement that nothing unites Poles and Russians? What do you think could unite them? And what disunited?

Many Poles pretend or maybe just dream that Poles have ``lot in common``
with Germanic people. From what I could conclude they look at them from down to top.
Does anyone communicated with Germans and could describe their qualities both
positive and negative?Thanks.

History / Origins of Poland national differences? [41]

I'm not concerned at all. I'm not attacking you Vlad123, neither I'm attacking the Russians or the Ukrainians

I didn`t say that to be concerned means to attack somebody. And you have your right to dislike Russian and Ukrainian culture, but it is desirable that this dislike would be seriously argumented.I just gave to you my ansewr about vodka...

And in almost every Russian movie I watched there was that main character, very manly and brave who was drinking vodka without a chaser and often times straight from the bottle like it was a lager.

Those movies made in Poland?Well in many Polish moves Poles drink a lot too.But I do not make conclusions from movies.
This is very induvidually.Personally I tried some vine and bear in my life but I do not have proneness to alcohool whatsoever. Therefore I do not drink at all.I guess you understand on your own example that averages cannot serve as a rule. But what is your concern in any case how much vodka drink Russians and Ukrainians?Do you affraid that they will enforce Poles to drink even more?

News / Czechs most liked by Poles! [35]

I also like the Hungarians because they are our brothers and every decent Pole is meant to like them

I`m very glad that you found some brothers, but could I know where such a brothery connection come from?

51% of Poles say it's their favorite foreign nationality, followed by Slovaks (48%), the English (47 percent), Italians (46 percent)

By the way, which countries openly fought in WWII on side of Hitler who intended to eliminated Polies as a nation and sent 2 millions of ethnical Poles in concentration camps to die?..

And which countries cleared Poland from the Nazies and presented them the huge piece of their former land so they would just migrate from canalisation where they dwelled under Nazies in beauty houses just left by the Germans?..

But man, you drink vodka without a chaser, that's harsh..

Well that`s a widely known stereotype.When Westerners
hear that I`m Ukrainian they asume I`m Russian and ask me if I
like to drink vodka.Only thing I could respond that I never drink
vodka. They probably do not believe. But personally me, is ``intelligent``
in a third generation and my ancestors almost never drunk alcohool.
Neither I saw that intelligent Ukrainians such as engineers or programmers
would misuse alcogool.

Well according to statistics, consumption of pure alcohool by Poles per year -
13.25 L is comparable to that of Ukraine 15.60 L and Russia 15.76 L.
I saw before similar statistics according to which Ukrainian consumption of
alcohool is lower than Polish.

False.

Maybe just a brief period of deportation to Kazakhstan during WWII, but for example Americans
did the same thing.

News / What should Poland do to solve the population crisis? [101]

I have doubts that Russian GDP will exceed that of Germany in 2030.
Natural resources of Russia will be seriously depleted to this time.
Even if it will happen it will be probably for account of Germany decline.

The government economic and other social policies should be similar to Russia.

Russia, of course, is quite strange example to follow with its distance between the richest and
the poorest which is probably the highest in the world. Are you sure that only Russia and not any other
country should be an example to follow?..

whilst you R1as originated in Southern Russia

Honesly I do not know what is my own haplogroup. It would be interesting to know.
In Ukraine haplogroup ``I`` is also common which is associated with Southern Proto-Europeans
how they are called on a map you provided. But few more haplogroups could be met too, though rarely.

Personally,I would be not against to be an East Asian.
They have strong community values. They protect their cultures from invadors.

From this map you could clearly see that 1Ra is associated with Northern Indo-Europeans,while 1Rb with
North European eurASIANS.So 1Rb is closer to Asians in fact.

In contrast R1 and particularly R1a1a is prevalent in much of central and eastern Europe

R1a also found among:
1) 27% Norwegians
2) 26% Austrians
3) 23% North-East Germany
4) 19% Sweden

It would be fascinating to see DNA research in present-day Prussia to see just how much Russian genes have diluted those of the native population over the years of occupation.

Your claims are just rediculous.First of all haplogroups of Russians and Germans are somewhat related. For Germans one of the main haplogroup is R1b and for Russians R1a.What seems to be just slightly different variety of the same haplogroup. And approx. 25 % of East Germans already have R1a haplogroup which is associated with the Slavs (and other Indo-Europeans).

Eastern part of Germany was originally Slavic land which was conquered by Germanic tribes in 11-th century. For example such cites as Leipzig and Dresden derive their names form Slavic ``Lipsk`` and ``Drežïany``.

The origin of the name Berlin is unknown, but it may have its roots in the language of West Slavic inhabitants of the area of today's Berlin, and be related to the Old Polabian stem berl-/birl- ("swamp").[22] Folk etymology connects it to the German Bär, a bear, and a bear appears in the coat of arms of the city.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin#History

So in any case of intermixing there was not to much allien haplogroups brought in.This is at least in case of ethical Russians. But because in Soviet army there were people of different ethnicities,I cannot bet for all of them.

Ukrainians also have plenty of I haplogroup which is associated with early European cromagnoids. But in Northern Germans and Scandinavians this haplagroup is also common.

But maybe those were not ethnical Russians? For example this is how Russian soldiers are depicted by passional German painter HERBERT SMAGON.So maybe they will ultimately address their claims to...Kyrgiz???

And why events of 70 years due is so much concern?Soon Gemany will become a muslim country.Currently 1/3 if no more children in Germany are not Germans. At least Russians never persecuted Germans because they are Germans. And never bothered if they mix with Russians. In early 1990-th there were 2 millions of ethnical Germans in Russia.Ages ago they were welcomed to live in Russia.Lots of them intermixed.Nobody opressed them. Now they immigrate in Germany in large nubers. But in Germany they mostly treated like ``Russians``.So what should be you larger concern???

History / Origins of Poland national differences? [41]

Currently many scientists believe that majority of Europeans descended from the same ``Indo-European`` stock.
Nonethless there seem to be some differences between European nations. For example many Poles do not want even hear about Eastern Slavic people and with shame deny that they even could be somehow related with them.Instead they believe that their beloved brothers are Hungarians who do not even speak Indo-European language. Many Germans still believe that they and any Slavs belong to different races of people. If we assume point of view that European nations are so different, then how they become so different?Had they been genetically different originally?Or became different during evolution/selection?If yes, then why evolution followed different patterns in those countries?

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

Poles did not cause Smuta. In fact they were let into Kremlin by russian boyars who wanted a polish heir to the throne as their next Czar

But it was in the very beginning
when only some boyars who supported False Dimitry. But he still was Russian and only promiced allegence to Polish King.
There was no talk that Russia suppose to become colony of Poland. But when majority of Russian cities and regions refused to recognize power of False Dimitry Poles and Lithuanians invaded Russia and destroyed many cities.Nobody in Russia welcomed them to do such a things.War with Poles continued for many years and Poles even tried to kill Russin tzar Michail.

I know little about it. Are you sure you are talking about Poles and not Lithuanians???

To your knowledge:

During the wars over the succession of Galicia-Volhynia Principality in 1339 King Casimir III of Poland undertook an expedition and conquered Lviv in 1340, burning down the old princely castle.[11] Poland ultimately gained control over Lviv and the adjacent region in 1349. From then on the population was subjected to attempts to both Polonize and Catholicize the population.[18]

The Russians also exterminated Polish elite.
The Russians also took over Poland.

Probably you confuse Russia with USSR or Russian Empire.
Catherine the II who partitioned Poland was German.
Felix Dzerzhinsky was had of Cheka and ethnical Pole.In childhood he
dreamed to become an iezuit priest.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Dzerzhinsky
Nobody mentioned that in 1612 Poles captured and plundered Moscow,
invaded Russia and attempted to convert Russians into slaves.
They caused Times of Troubles.
In 14-th century they invaded Wolynea-Galicea Rus and conquered it.
They destroyed many orthodox churches.

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

In some place I found such info that 2/3 of working Americans work for 14$/hour or lower wage.
This info was dated year 2000-2003 or something like this.I wonder if its true because you could
barely survive in U.S. on such money.Basic pension is just over 1000 a month.
If believe to some calculations than more than 50% of Americans should be poor or below powerty.

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

"staggering" you say? the unemployment rate as of December 2012 in the USA was 7.8% with 25 states in the USA currently under 7%.

But this is official unemployment only.If person doesn`t have job for more than 6 month they just downgrade him/her to non-existance.According to this chart real unemployment in U.S. for now is at least 15.3%.And this is more likely without underemployed count.

Those states with small unemployment typically have very small population, low population density, modest sallaries and severe weather conditions.Nobody want to move in those ``holes`` and therefore there is ``low`` unemployment.

In any case they would not be able to provide jobs for any unemployed Americans. They are just too small in population.
People just cannot migrate there in large numbers. They just would not be able to ``digest`` all the unemployed.

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

When I was in Los Angeles and walked around, accidantelly I went into a neighbourhood that I probably didn`t suppose to.I prefer to make my legs out of there.Well, local people know where to go and where not but for a tourist this is a real catch.Maybe they will post a warning signs?Another time some guy in local subway decided that I looked at him and asked me if I am a foreigner. For some reason he believed that nobody has right to look at him even occidentally.

To my shock, Canadians were very racists regarding non-whites

Maybe this is partially explains it...

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

Canadians appear kind, polite, et cetera, but I find all this to be a veneer...very superficial and feeling inferior to their southern neighbor.

I never new that Canadians have any inferiority complex toward U.S. It sounds strange to me.Well,in some places of Canada not too long ago existed traditions brought from Western Europe that when you will step on somebodies foot he/she will appologise before you, instead of smashing you into face or call you a moron. Now those traditions are slowly vanish.I feel that I seriously miss traditional Western European culture.

U.S. turists often could be easily recognized in Canadian subway. They are very noisy and their behaviour is bear like.
In a moment he will step on your foot with his heavy leg and after that strike your back with heavy hand and with stupid smile ask you if you forgive him. This is my general concept of American. They wear colourfull shirts and short at least in summer. Will have red hair and be very fat and tall.

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

I lived for some period of time in both countries.I do not claim that I personally great witness
and still use some widely known statistical data for comparison.
Up to early 2000-th the U.S. was one of the main distination for Canadians to immigrate,at certain
periods there were up to 100.000 of Canadians who immigrated in U.S. anually.Mostly it was
associated with better job prospects and payments for a certain categories of highly educated
specialists. For now prospects seems to be largerly equilazed as situation in U.S. worsened a
lot.And unemployment is even higher than in Canada, what was unseen before.
From what I know advantages of life in Canada over U.S are
1) A way lower rate of crime.Especially heavy crime.Cities are much safe to live and to walk at
night. But this is only comparatively.Be cotious in Canada too.
2)Possibly, higher level of general culture.I do not know about all parts of U.S. but it is usually
assumed that Canada is much cleaner in average and closer to Europe in culture and architecture.
In U.S. architecture just awfull or absent in sence of art.And personaly I feel rather uncomfortable with
American stile of interpersonal communication and would prefer something closer to English or French.
But again this is only comparatively.Majority of people who lived in best places of Europe before prefer
Europe over Canada.
3)Free medicine and slightly better social service. In U.S. you may get in real trouble if you are
poor and have no medical insurance.Welfare seem to be more difficult to get in U.S. than in
Canada even though it is difficult to imagine.

Advanteges of U.S. over Canada. There is few if any in my mind.
1)Better climate in some places. But in majority of U.S. states climate is far from sugar too.
Entire East cost from Boston to Florida is extremely wet.Summers could be very hot.
In winters, especially in Boston, and New York frosts could be strong.Entire Southern States
are extremely wet too and extreme heat in summers.North Western coast where is Seattle
is extremely wet and they call it a ``rusted city``. Mid Western states where is Chicago and
Detroit are chilly frozen in winter and windy.Personally I do not like even climate of Los Angeles.
In evenings you get chilly winds from the ocean from local cold current and ma think to use winter
coat even in April if you have to walk at evening or at night.Summers could be very hot and dry.
But the most interesting city is Phoenics. In summers temperature +40°C is very common. And may
not be precipitation for a weaks. But they say people could accustom to such climate to!..
In any case life in U.S. requires efforts of pioneers and cannot be compared to that of Europe (best places).
2)Generally cheaper prices. But I`m not sure about general balance if you need to count prices for doctors,
lawers and housing in New York of Frisco.
3)May be better prospects for job in certain areas.Mostly for high level specialists such as Air Space engineers,
scientists or similar. But not for majority of fields.Currently unemployment in U.S. is staggering.
