Travel / Driving from UK to Ukraine via Poland - need car insurance [46]

You are not really supposed to drive into the area.... but you can walk around it , no problem...

incidentally , before the Russians took it over , it was a huge German military base....

there are supposed to be miles of tunnels they made...that lie undiscovered yet....

Some information about Borno Sullinowo...

Travel / What is the weather like in Poland where you are now? [185]

When it was bad a few years ago the missus wanted me to wear her tights, but I declined on the grounds that it was kinky and I might get to like it.

Yes , its a slippery slope... I started with the tights , then found i preferred stockings , got some knickers to match , the knickers came in a set with a bra.... well , it could only end one way....!

Anyways...bloody freezing where i am in Zachodniopomorskie...no wood for the fire , electricity cut off , no bottle of gas for the heater....

I shall be glad to see spring...fingers crossed...

Travel / Driving in Poland, are there any rules at all? [149]

When i first came to Poland , i always stopped to let people cross the road on a crossing...

Their reaction was a look of amazement , and they seemed very reluctant to cross the road untill i had driven off...

This is probably due to Polish drivers overtaking any English drivers silly enough to stop at a crossing....

Now i just ignore people stood at crossings , in the same way Polish drivers do...

Please note....Its frowned upon to run anyone over if they are actually on the crossing...

I bet none of you are even selling any property....?

I actually have my house up for sale at the moment...but i could not get interested in this thread...even with a gun against my head...!

Who cares what your dam house is worth...?

Get a life for Gods sake...

UK, Ireland / Best way to get boxes from UK to Poland? [25]

Pity.. A few years back i was driving between Leeds and Poland pretty often , i would have moved your stuff for free...

Try contacting the Polish people in the Leeds area , there are lots of them..

You could try the Polish center , or one of the Leeds Polish sites on the net , i have seen a few people advertising removals on there...

Travel / Watch out for airport personnel stealing stuff on regional Polish airports. [64]

Had my mobile stolen at Gdansk airport security...

I had two with me , the one they stole was a broken phone that i kept just to charge up a spare battery...bad luck people...

I will keep a closer eye on my stuff in future...

What they did was insist i took my boots off , because the metal dectector bleeped at my metal shoelace ends , while i was doing that , they went through my rucksack and stole the phone...

News / Poles are able to forgive their enemies - how noble. [68]

My father had many friends from the Afrika korps...

Back in 1942 they were doing their best to kill each other...

I agree with what somebody else already said...

Forgive yes... but to forget is to let it happen again...

German and British etc veterans could easily become friends because, despite being enemies, they had treated each other as equal. Germans didn`t plan to erase the British nation from the surface of the earth. They only wanted to dominate.

I agree , the desert war was very civilised , just opposing forces doing battle , no partisans , no death squads , no Gestapo...

Very different from what was happening in Poland and the rest of Europe...
