Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2698]

I have not been murdered

Yet.

Whether your culture of guns works for you or doesn't, there's no call here in Europe to change our status quo. We are happy with it and don't need to change to anybody else's system.

Avasive

What does that even mean?

Poland gun deaths 35
US accidental gun deaths 672

Which suggests that Poland is getting it right and they are not.

Hard to know why they want to export their situation with guns to other places that do not want it.

It's 2 am. Two drugged-up scumbags are trying to break the front door.

In 30 years in Poland I have never come across such a thing.

Life / danger of animals during hiking in poland [21]

As for boar, I've lived in a house near the forest and never saw one but saw evidence of them

They come down my street (near Kampinoski Forest) sometimes. In big groups (wild boar live in female/kids groups; adult males are solitary) snorting loudly. This only happens at night and in late winter when they're short of food. They've been photographed as far into town as Metro Młociny or even further.

It's great to see them, as long as you don't get too close.

they prefer to avoid humans.

Very much so. They start snorting since they're spooked by us. They're also quite stressed since seeing buildings roads and gardens is a long way outside their comfort zone. Like wolves, they're more afraid of us than we are of them.

danger from animals during hiking in poland in marked hiking trails ?

Not really, although as posters have mentioned, watch out for snakes.

There are also ticks (a big problem in Poland) and mosquitos so read up on how best to avoid them.

you insinuated it

Don't be silly.

It should be a requirement that all Polish citizens own a gun

A requirement from whom? The government and people are happy with the status quo, 1 guns per 100 citizens.

American society is anything but healthy

On an obvious downward trajectory.

Life / Boys acting and dressing feminine, girls acting and dressing masculine - transgender teens in Poland [272]

so these people are Gay

Most aren't. They're straight blokes who put lipstick on and say they're lezzers.

When gay men drag up its part of a very old subculture, a nice one and they don't say they're female. It's often more about parties and entertainment.

Plus there's what you get in Istanbul, Rio, Dakar, Calcutta, Manila etc which is a very specific thing done by men too camp to earn any other way except turning tricks with clients who identify as straight.

And there are really some people who don't fit the gender binary.

The last three categories suffer because of the strangeness of the first and the hysterical reaction by frustrated conservatives and post-menopausal boy wizard authors.

Do you mean this one

The first one in post 32. With the baggy jumper. You've caught the way she's standing perfectly.

Video games tie in to male drives for combat and hunting

A nice game of football usually assuages that. That or the satisfaction of a weeks's work well done, a good pay packet and a shag.

And of course there's always video games however most of the people I know who play them either do fifa or driving games.

Poland does not produce any small arms.

What a silly thing to say. Stop trolling; it just makes you look like a jerk.

Buzz off, full-time troll. We were having a nice discussion without some bored coffin dodger making pointless comments.

makes guns

Don't be silly.

It makes tanks and artillery, for sale to anyone.

In Europe we tend not to buy guns. Poland has 2 guns per 100 people, the U.K. has 4.

Nobody wants to change that to a situation like you have where there are more guns than people.

I just read some good news. Across the whole EU, obviously including Poland, gun control laws are about to be tightened further.

Americans can live how they wish in their own country. In Europe we will also do as we wish and have a higher and safer quality of life.

that redhead on green background really catches my imagination.

Same here. She's got the posture of the woman in the green shirt so right it's more than right if you see what I mean.

I am not in Poland

So there you go.

In Europe, things are different.

And asking pointless questions repeatedly will get you nowhere.

You could equally ask why police officers in the U.K. don't carry guns or why most police officers in Poland have never fired or pointed theirs.

Lots of people in America just.... like guns

This just seems weird. I'm from the countryside myself and have used guns often enough, most recently an AK47 last year however there are more enjoyable ways to spend time. There's something fundamentally unhealthy about enjoying them.

Self-defense is more a rationalization that people use when talking to those who aren't gun crazy

This does make sense. Some people just live in a permanent state of semi fear.

Rural white who hunt also have lots of guns.

If people hunt to eat, there's some justification. Not that it's necessary for people in developed countries.

So much of this thread is certain posters from America who privately know that their point of view is wrong and having seen their own society become dangerous through gun crime think that other countries should make the same mistake.

In Polandd we're happy with our gun laws. Why would we want to change them for something worse?

Whites are over-represented in gun ownership but under-represented in gun crime

That's still about availability of guns. If an ordinary person needs a firearm to protect themself, something is seriously wrong.

the 'Black' economy was growing faster than the 'White' economy.

Good, given the crap they've had to put up with for generations. And perhaps that perceived difference between communities is partly to blame for high crime rates.

How much longer before armed gangs (mostly with a 'migration background') are shooting Polish people in Poland?

How much longer before the sky falls in? As you and I both know, Poland as a country isn't high on trust however I'd wager that 99.9% do not fear "armed gangs".

Real Estate / Move from Canada and buy an apartment in Krakow? [22]

the vibe of the place....

That's largely what appeals however I know what you mean. One nice thing is that unlike most working class suburbs in PL, the bars and restaurants are full, pleasant, traditional and cheap. Sometimes in summer it feels more like Paris than Kraków.

a kind of.... harshness and ugliness

I found that in bits of Poznań; perhaps it's improved, perhaps not so much. The problem wasn't the place but the people.

I still think Warsaw is the nicest city in PL.

overwhelmingly responsible for gun violence in the US

Isn't it the easy availability of weapons there the factor that is "overwhelmingly responsible"?

That and shocking socioeconomic inequalities.

What about Sweden?

What about it? Sweden isn't Poland.

Here are your achievements:

There's nothing wrong with feudalism or colonialism and what you stupidly call 'islamisation' doesn't exist. The others are all things that derive from nihilistic conservatism.

They're the ones

People?

And like 'novichok' and Jim, you're talking about America. Have you ever heard Poles, German, Brits, French, Dutch etc advocating for type of gun culture that e it's across the Atlantic? Maybe some nutter in a gym who has fantasies about violence however such people generally struggle to say why they'd want it.

The laws regarding guns in Poland are fine as they are.
