USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

Rural America, while often cynically derided by the media and TV "entertainment" in general, is where Americans still have managed to conserve a normal and sensible way of life. Crime is low, education is high, people do not mistrust each other, police brutality is an almost non-existent phenomena

very true. Your description matches most of the South, in general.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [901]

Germany certainly wasn't ready for war by 1935/36,

I'm not talking about 1935/36

It doesn't make any unrealistic promises at all.

alone the promise to help was already unrealistic

.........................................

Now to answer the rest of your questions, the Wehrmacht had several distinct advantages, early in the war, which made them appear near invincible. First, they had a Long tradition of professional officers and excellent training. Second, they had started to rearm and retool for the coming war much earlier than anyone else. Thirdly, the leadership was open to new ideas, wanting to avoid a replay of WWI, and thus the ideas of Rommel and Guderian were given a fertile bed in which to grow. Finally, excellent German engineering and a powerful industrial base were also harnessed earlier than anyone else's were, and this the Germans entered the war years ahead of their opposition in tank design and production, in the design of modern artillery, and in aircraft, and also in having a amy trained in all of these new weapons, and comfortable with their capabilities.

As a result of these advantages, the Germans were able to employ the new tactics and new equipment to great effect in the first several years of the war, running down enemies who's tactical innovation and technology research and development had stagnated. In addition, France and Great Britain had not geared up for war nearly as fast, and therefore could neither replace their equipment losses so easily, nor could they field troops who were nearly so well trained.

(now I need a break. Got a freaking headache today).

You wouldn't find many examples where German weaponry/tech was the most advanced in 1939

just look at some documentaries from that time and compare their equipment with that of other armies.

Their main advantage was successful implementation of fully integrated combined arms doctrine.

that too

I do.

A mooted attack by France and Poland in 35/36 would have had a real chance of succeeding.

not really. Just look how fast they were progressing through the entire continent. Honestly, they couldn't help you guys, even if they tried.
However, I agree, they shouldn't have made any unrealistic promises, they were unable to fulfill to begin with.

exactly, they had the most advanced technology and the best equipped armed forces back then and that's why I said earlier " no one was able to face the Germans one on one back then and even if the Brits and'or French, tried to help Poland, they would be slaughtered just like anyone else".

the key factor was that no one was able to face the Germans , one on one back then and even if the Brits and'or French, tried to help Poland, they would be slaughtered just like anyone else. The mistake they made was to promise help that was never realistic but obviously expected.

What I said is based on sound historical knowledge.

a little reminder, Barney

No Communists shot you in the back of the head.

was that based on sound, historical knowledge too???

There is no way a battle hardened soviet army would have been defeated by the relatively inexperienced US and her allies. The Soviets had better equipment (and more of it), better medical care and 30-40 million troops. The US had only a few nuclear weapons and no real means of delivery, their nuclear aggression could have only have carried them so far.

Barney (btw. most Brits on PF), I regret to report, you've been brainwashed by the communist propaganda machine and you believe in the invincibility of the great Soviet Union. What you say is based on your beliefs and not on facts. None of it can be proved anymore so let's agree to disagree. Whatever will be said from now on, will be a pure waste of time for both of us.

No Communists shot you in the back of the head.

REALLY Barney?

They were shut in the back of the head. Barney, maybe it's time to rethink your strategy?

Our (as in American?) soldiers saved your butts (as in Polish?).
Are you kidding me?

goofy is a Brit, right? I was talking to him.

Btw. on the other hand however, helping them, was like helping all of you, one way or another. Then again, why even discuss about it now? Is it gonna change anything? NO, so why waste time on a "what if" debate? It's all over and done. AMEN !!! .

Well then you stop painting your history in bright herois like colours then.

our soldiers died to save your butts, ain't that enough already? (not to mention all kinds of other help).

I don't understand why our governments work together so closely, a huge mistake in my eyes. I'd rather see us work closer with Poland and a few other countries instead.

You only joined the war because of Japs

but we could have limited our actions to the Japs. We could have stayed out of Europe at least for a while but Churchill convinced FDR to join the war and we did. Oh well, too late now to complain.

Btw. we never promised to help Poland so if you want to b/tch, leave us out of it.

America and Britain are "innocent" in their minds. "Great" Polish allies.

well, America wasn't your ally until late.

After seeing what kind of bs we're getting from all of you in Europe, I wish, we would have never joined that freaking war. Our soldiers died for a bunch of ungrateful Europeans.

UK, Ireland / Polish women that go "off the rails" in London [15]

I know it's tough but it's time to move on, man. She ain't worth it. Get what you deserve.

UK, Ireland / Why are Brits so left-wing? [60]

The few native Brits I've met I'd call kinda stuffy, unless they were drunk out of their socks.

that sounds about right but yet, anytime the discussion went politics, 90% of those who I've talked to, were left wingers.

I see the extreme left in Brits only in forums on the web.

that's true, it seems like we gathered the creme de la creme of left wingers on PF (most of them are nice people though).

Id love a strong new party

agree 100% (as long as it has nothing to do with communism/socialism, I'm all for it).

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

do everything in his power to avoid a referendum on EU membership. If unable to do so, pretend to have amnesia.

if they don't want it, they shouldn't be forced to it. That's why I despise all politicians, because they don't respect us. They should be working for us and not the other way around, All we're good for is to vote for these bastards, that's all.
