History / Do you regard the Polish Communist Partizans as heroes? [36]

Obviously post communist Poland's historiography would be very different than during the cold war, but I'm interesting in knowing specifically how the Polish Partizans, not the Red Army or NKVD are viewed.

Soviet partisans in Poland are not synonymous with Polish communists partisans.
Soviet partisans in Poland (former Soviet occupied Poland) after Katyn discovery were to Polish partisans an enemy just like Germans only more trecherous. That's the image people get nowadays from interviews with members of Home Army. Soviet partisans accepted and executed orders from Stalin so what would you expect. It really looks like in some areas they were more busy fighting Polish democratic partisans than fighting the Germans.

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [120]

So are you saying that Soviets didn't occupy Poland and regular Soviet NKWD units didn't have regular battles with Polish democratic partisants? The handful of Polish communists and traitors wouldn't stand a chance without Soviet military support.

"massive protest in the west" - good joke :D
They knew exactly what was happening in Poland. They agreed to it, in Yalta.
If Katyn didn't convince Britain and USA to protect Poland from Soviets, then what would?

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [120]

only in eyes of people who believe in all this Soviet-Polish friendship bullshit.

What is stupid is who are you blaming for Soviet occupation. Armia Ludowa influence on Poland was negligible. The fate of Poland was sealed at Yalta.

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [120]

Poland is center of the main land (geograhpically) and is an Eastern European country.

Geographically, Poland, together with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, is Central European country.

Life / Who are the Polish singers (Classical or Folk songs) [11]

Yes, Kazik Staszewski and his father have brilliant lyrics. Budka Suflera and Dżem also, although they are probably not what Lwowska wants.
More soft and poetic - Martyna Jakubowicz:

Law / Opening a Mini Market Store in Poland. Starting cost / Expected monthly income? [22]

I think that market is dominated by stores like Biedronka, Żabka, Intermarche, Netto - all part of large network, which gives them huge competitive advantage. Those articles are very grim:

I did see an interview with guys that succeeded nonetheless, they gave some hints, but can't find it now ;)

History / Warsaw Rising 1944 - National Disaster or Triumph of Spirit ? [515]

Warsaw Uprising was the continuation of Operation Tempest. Now, do you think AK leadership in Warsaw didn't know what happened to those Home Army units who tried to help Russians advance in Kresy? (which was also already illogical because since June 1943 Soviet partisants were as much focused on fighting the Poles as they were on fighting the Germans).

mizeria - sliced cucumber + chives + cream + salt - as an addition to mashed potatos

History / Should Poland organize March of the Living in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland? [64]

Shouldn't we take example in how Jews commemorate their victims? Shouldn't we make young generations remember those events, just like Jews do?
A nation which forgets its history is doomed to go through it again.
The genocide of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists bears striking resemblance to Holocaust in that its goal was to physically exterminate whole population including women and children. You may think that the Ukrainians "just" wanted to make Poles leave their villages, where they lived since middle ages - that was unfortunately not the case since UPA officers openly asked Poles to stay and even gave them "guarantees" on paper reassuring them that no harm will be done.

If you know Polish - take a look at this documentary about the Massacre of Wola Ostrowiecka:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Wola_Ostrowiecka

Towards the end of that documentary a guy recalls how his grandfather was murdered because he couldn't believe that Ukrainians could be murdering Poles for no reason (other than that they were Poles), so he went to talk with them and obviously - was murdered.

The other issue is: how should Poland honour the memory of those Ukrainians who didn't join UPA but instead saved Poles by hiding them from their countrymen? Should Poland also take example from the Jewish "Righteous among the Nations" initiative?

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

I'm pretty sure that it's just a myth arising from the common myth that the American Interstates were to be used for such a purpose.

PRL colonel Stanisław Radaj from General Staff said something else in a documentary (War Games), but you know better...
You do often talk about things you know nothing about?

So the Soviet built roads were of a high standard?

Many were build so that Warsaw pact big military planes could land on them :) Some PRL general talked about it.

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

I don't think I'm Polish

You could stop right here dude.
Since you are not Polish, nobody here gives a foock about your opinion on the matter who is Polish and who is not.
I don't know a Polish person who would use the word "Polack" or would badmouth people of Polish origin who are proud of their Polishness - irrespective of how real it is. By doing so you will be perceived as attacking all Poles (real Poles if you insist).

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

I've heard farmers (large scale farmers) saying they would rather give up EU subsides in favour of free market - for example now they can't buy much cheaper fertilizers from outside of EU (or sth like that).

The point is: EU is hardly a free market zone.

Life / Polish Networking Sites / Facebook [10]

Facebook IS used by Polish people.
Another one:
nk.pl = nasza klasa = portal which organizes people according to their class/school
Perhaps they will go out of fashion soon, just like many other social sites :) Vast amount of spam on both is an early sign of their demise.

History / 'Battle of Britain' won thanks to Polish aces !! [158]

ad the battle of britain been lost, can it be said that the same would have stayed to fight on the beaches and in the streets, i think not !!!!!!!!

They fought and died in large numbers under British command in France, Netherlands and Italy EVEN AFTER it became clear that British government sold them to THE OTHER MASS MURDERER OF POLES.
