News / Mister President Andrzej Duda - Best Poland could get. [57]

and the racism against the Polish community here after Brexit was shameful and unforgivable.

Eh I wouldn't go too far with that racism stuff. Sure they are occasional incidents involving idiots, but no more than in any other country. On the whole, Polish people have it pretty good in the UK. If they didn't, they wouldn't be flooding over there in droves.

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1538]

I mean, just look at the headlines in some of the foreign press.

'Fury in Israel as Poland proposes ban on referring to Nazi death camps as Polish.'

telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/01/28/fury-israel-poland-proposes-ban-referring-nazi-death-camps-polish

Why the fury? Have they been teaching people back in Israel that they were Polish?

Poland is simply the next rich seam they want to extract from.

Again? After the Second World War Poland was already paying compensation after an agreement signed by PRL. The last payment was made in 1995. It's something many people do not seem to realise. Poland has already [rightly or wrongly. In my view wrongly] paid compensation for decades.

Looking at the Polish PM's response to this, as well as the reactions of some of the other PiS politicians, I get the impression they have no intention of putting the breaks on this law, something I'm happy to see.

Again, this isn't a law preventing more research in to the Holocaust or even criticising some Polish citizens for their actions during the Holocaust. It's simply a law preventing the a lie that has been repeated and published far too often many times now, that there were 'Polish death camps.'

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1538]

The way that he rose out of absolutely nowhere to advise senior Israeli politicians, and now that he's constantly at the side of Morawiecki... it's just strange.

Yep we pretty much agree on this. He's gone from a complete nobody in Poland, to suddenly, in a short space of time, being all over the Polish media and constantly with or around PiS politicians. It's obvious he isn't in this because of some new found love of Poland.

If, as you say, PiS drop this new law in the face of Israeli opposition, then hard questions need to be asked.

Of course the difference between me and you on this, is that you would love for the right to split and many PiS supporter to turn on them. It only gives the opposition an opportunity to strengthen and you would hope it's enough to prevent PiS from being re-elected. I on the other hand, still believe that PiS is the best thing for Poland at this time, much better than PO was for 8 years + there is practically no serious opposition right now. Having said that, I've never claimed that they were perfect, and this cosiness with Israeli representatives is concerning for sure. It will be interesting to see what happens with this. If PiS stick to their guns then their voters will be happy. If they wobble on this, it could lose them supporters.

Is there are a line of countries and people which would like to to tell Poland what laws should introduce on its soil and what shouldn't?

It seems so, and right now it appears to be Israeli. This new found 'friendship' with people connected to the Israeli government has so far been followed by

1] PiS getting criticised for reacting too slowly to the handful or anti-Semitic and xenophobic slogans in the Polish Independence Day march.
2] Demands for the delegalisation of ONR
3] And now anger at a law they wish to bring in to tackle the 'Polish death camps' myth.

Why are people from other countries even getting involved? What on earth does a new law being looked at in Poland have to do with Lapid or Netanyahu? It would simply be a law defending the good name of Poland and preventing lies about supposed Polish death camps being repeated - why does it bother them?

It might look like I'm a bit Jew obsessed today, but it isn't my fault that it's all happening.

You may have heard the Polish government is looking to bring in a law making the use of the term 'Polish death camp' punishable with prison.

Well it seems Israel, the supposed great friend of Poland with whom relations are improving, is very much against this, even though the term 'Polish death camps' is factually inaccurate.

jpost.com/Israel-News/Politics-And-Diplomacy/Israel-strongly-opposes-Polish-bill-outlawing-term-Polish-death-camps-539972

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu, has called the law baseless and told the Israeli ambassador in Poland to meet with the Polish PM and express his opposition to the law.

An even more furious reaction was shown by the leader of the Israeli Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, who defiantly stated that there were Polish death camps and that no law would ever change that. He got in to a mini argument with the Pol embassy in Israel over it [screenshot attached].

The intriguing thing is why Israel would be against such a law. It wouldn't be a law that punishes people for suggesting that some Polish people might have part-taken in the atrocities, it would simply not allow for the term 'Polish death camps,' which is an incorrect statement, to be used.

In my view, if Poland doesn't go through with the law after this negative reaction in Israel, it will only increase the belief in Poland that PiS just do whatever Israel instructs them to do.

History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

Yes Russia is a Christian Orthodox country and I suppose Putin is actually a decent guy?

Ktos we're not talking about Russia from hundreds of years ago. I'm not saying Russia is inherently evil - but the Russia of the last 100+years is a bad country and remains so today.

News / Arrests made in Poland for Hitler birthday celebrations [35]

We should be so glad that there are such smart people in the world like Jon and mafketis, who 'know' that religion and patriotism are stupid.

How do they know? Because they are sensible - much more sensible and intelligent than us lowly gullible herd.

By the way, can we keep this on topic? This is about the people who celebrated Hitler's birthday, yet mafketis despises religion so much that he is trying to turn it in to a religion bashing thread.

its purpose: to keep the Polish public in a state of constant fear and anxiety

But the main public media outlet in Poland [TVP] isn't constantly harping on about Russia. If anything, they are having a go at the EU, and are certainly not trying to convince anyone to vote for anything that would surrender more power to the EU.

I don't watch a whole load of TVN, Polsat, read GW etc. but I've never known them to be particularly anti-Russian. In fact, if anything, GW is seen as more of an anti-Polish commie rag.

News / Arrests made in Poland for Hitler birthday celebrations [35]

I don't understand why gov is so easy riled by that and why is reacting like crazy. That new gov is sh.. methinks.

a] I think the government has always condemned this sort of thing - it's just troublemakers and lying media who try to act like they don't care about it and allow it to go on unpunished. They weren't really riled by it - they had to react. I know a few yobs being stupid might not be a big deal, but can you imagine if they had said nothing about it? Think of the media storm, not just from anti-Polish domestic media but also the foreign media, who were just waiting for the government to do nothing, so they could say that this must mean they agree with it.

b] So you don't like this government or just don't like it since the reconstruction?

Why is this the best time?

Well this isn't the best time. There was no best time. They were probably looking for a perfect time to release the footage and hit PiS hard, but couldn't find it, so after holding it for almost a year, they just decided, they might as well release it.

In hindsight, they're probably kicking themselves that they didn't release it just after the Polish Independence March. That probably would have been the 'best' time, when Poland was being attacked for having anti-Semites in the march.

To be perfectly honest, most of the filmed footage I saw looked staged, as if they were performing for a camera.

This shouldn't be ruled out.

These are not Polish media

Yeah because the Polish media just loves Russia right? Gazeta Polska does nothing but praise Russia all day? Get real. The truth is most sides of the media in Poland are quite anti Russian [even if for different reasons]. It is probably one of the few things they can agree on - that Russia is bad. Although there are of course still some commie politicians and members of the media who have sympathies towards Russia, but not many.

News / Arrests made in Poland for Hitler birthday celebrations [35]

For those unaware, TVN recently released footage of a group of people celebrating what would have been Hitler's 128th birthday, in some woods in Poland. The footage was apparently obtained early last year, but strangely they decided only to release it now [perhaps they were trying to pick the best time to try and shame Poland?].

Three people from this event have been arrested and charged. Of course the foreign media has been quick to latch on to the story, to try and show Poland in a negative light again, even though there were probably no more than a dozen idiots at this event.

The Times of Israel was particularly quick to try and stir the anti-Semitic pot again.

timesofisrael.com/three-arrested-in-poland-after-far-right-celebration-of-hitlers-birthday/

In the article above, they quote Leslaw Piszewski, president of the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland, who slams the Polish authorities for not doing enough to tackle anti-Semitism in the country.

The article also quotes World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer, who basically says anti-semitism is rising in Poland and incidents like this are not a rarity.

They also mention the Polish Independence Day march and once again repeat that there were xenophobic signs and anti-Semitic slogans [even though there were literally a couple] in that march, trying to re-state how awful Polish people are.

Look, it's a stupid thing to do and the people involved should be punished, as the prime minister and justice minister have said, but the attempt to once again try and tarnish the country is starting to get tiresome.

Love / How long should i wait to romance a Polish girl after she broke up with her boyfriend of three years? [11]

Rumination, where are you from? I ask because your grammar is quite bad. So I assume not from USA or Britain? Unless you just made lots of mistakes because you had so much to type and wanted to do it quickly.

Anyway I generally don't like these kind of questions because this isn't a dating advice site, but I would definitely have said wait a while. Usually when a girl breaks up with somebody after such a long relationship, the chances are she had strong feelings for him and is still thinking about it.

In this situation that seems to be the case, as you said she got back with his guy recently, so even if you did try to 'move on her' she probably wouldn't have been interested, or even if she went on a date with you, she would have been thinking about him.

Time heals and if she had not been with him for a long time, perhaps many more months, then perhaps it would have been an occasion. Anyway that's my love advice, haha.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

10%? Hah. More like 0.02% or if you count those who say they have some family ties to Jews, then it rises to about 0.25%.

The highest percentages of Jewish people is in the USA and Israel, that shouldn't be a surprise to most people.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Don't be silly, there is anti-Semitism in every country.

I was saying it isn't a 'part' of Poland. As in, antisemitism isn't part and parcel of Poland - it isn't engrained in Poland.

As for there being antisemitism in every country - are you sure? Even those countries with no Jewish population? It's a helpful myth to push I suppose. If every country in the world can be accused of antisemitism, perhaps compensations can be received from those who never even had any Jews living there too.

Evil is how these institutions skewed doctrine in order to justify hatred.

Ok. So as not to get too off topic here, as 'Polish hatred of Jews' is a different topic, let's stay on the topic. What do you think of this idea of Poland having to compensate Jewish organisations/Jewish survivors for what happened to Jews during the Second World War? Are you happy the senate has put through this 447 act to put more pressure on payments to Jewish survivors of the holocaust [or their families]?

Poland's most famous satanist charged with disrespecting Poland's national coat of arms

I suppose each country gotta have their satanists. Glad he was charged. It would be even nicer to see this vermin in prison.

BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski has been formally charged by Polish authorities for allegedly disrespecting one of the country's national symbols.

The case, referred to court by the District Prosecutor's Office in GdaƄsk, northern Poland, involves the band's "Republic Of The Unfaithful" tour artwork and merchandise, which is said to be "insulting" to the national coat of arms of Poland, a stylized white eagle with a golden beak and talons, and wearing a golden crown, in a red shield.

USA, Canada / Polish-Jewish survivor of the Holocaust celebrates her 100th birthday [29]

Thank you, gentlemen, for making me realise how Jews hate Poles and Poland.

Better late than never kaprys.

It's usually quite obvious to tell what Jewish people [there are patriotic Jewish Poles too] hate Poland. Usually when you try to point out the positives and how Jewish people have thrived in Poland and were welcomed there, while other countries were kicking them out, they keep hitting back with all the negatives and how awful Polish people have been to them. It is no surprise then that if they keep going on and on about antisemitism, much of it exaggerated [particularly in the present day], eventually some people in Poland might begin to resent them, or at least, not trust them.

Church doctrine took care of that. Luther wanted the Jews to convert.

And the Jews "asked for" such treatment?? A simple nudge to assimilate gently on the part of the Catholic hierarchy would have been more than sufficient

What are you going on about? Why are you mixing in Luther and the Catholic church together? Luther was a rebel who led a bloody revolution against the Catholic church, murdering many members of the clergy in the process and robbing many churches. What he said about the Jews has got nothing to do with the Catholic church. But of course to you it doesn't matter, does it? It's the church and evil Christianity in general that has mistreated the Jewish people, right?

USA, Canada / Polish-Jewish survivor of the Holocaust celebrates her 100th birthday [29]

I have some serious issues with this whole idea of Poland owing money to Jewish families who were forced out during the war.

First off, any of those Jewish organisations that try to squeeze out money for themselves because their fellow Jews suffered in Poland - a categorical no. It doesn't work like that. 'Jews suffered here and lost their property. We're also Jewish, so compensate us.' No chance.

As for Jewish survivors of the holocaust who are still alive, or their families, this is a bit more of a complex subject, however I still don't think Poland ought to be compensating them.

It's a bit like if a woman loses her husband. He goes missing and after some time she thinks he's dead. She grieves for him, but some time later remarries and has a family of her own. It later turns out her husband didn't die. He's still alive and visits her. What is she to do? She loved him, but thought he was dead, so moved on. Should she leave her current family for him? That wouldn't be a nice thing to do.

The survivor situation is similar. Jews had to leave Poland, as they feared for their lives. In doing so they left property behind. Later on, other people moved in to these properties and have lived their with their families for many decades since. Now the survivors or their relatives want the property returned. Surely it would be very harsh to kick out the families who live there?

So the other option is then for the government to compensate them financially. That in turns means the people of Poland will compensate them, because the government operates with taxpayer money. The question is, why should it be Poland that compensates them? Why did Jews leave in such a hurry? Easy, because the Germans invaded and the Nazis wanted to kill them. Millions of [non Jewish] Polish people were also murdered and Polish infrastructure also suffered greatly because of this invasion. So much damage was caused, but so far Poland has not received a dime of compensation from the Germans.

So again, why should Poland pay the Jews that fled the country, when the reason they fled was because of the Germans? Even if some people will claim there was some antisemitism in Poland anyway - no Jew in Poland left all their stuff behind and fled, because of antisemitism. They fled because they feared being murdered by the German Nazis.

So since it was Germans that were the cause of them leaving their possessions behind, why not go to them for the compensation?

If you're not interested in honest discussion, I suggest you join your fellow travelers in the PiS or even the AfD

Erm, you do know PiS has forever been considered quite pro-Jewish, or at least, Jew friendly. That's actually why some groups on the right don't trust them. Heck some of them have even gone as far as to believe J.Kaczynski himself is a Jew.
