UK, Ireland / Brits say being drunk senseless while visiting Poland is national trait [98]

More than a quarter of Britons think getting drunk senseless in Poland is a national characteristic, according to a survey released to mark England's national day.

An Opinium Research poll of 2,012 British adults found that 60 per cent thought drinking tea was a national trait, closely followed by talking about the weather.

Forty per cent associated a "stiff upper lip" mentality - stoicism in the face of adversity - with being British.

Meanwhile 32 per cent thought supporting the royal family was a British characteristic, as the country gears up for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday.

Twenty-eight per cent thought that getting drunk senseless and being an absolute twat while vistiting Poland was a British attribute, while fewer than one in three thought working hard made people British.

"Our research has revealed that it's hard to pin down what it means to be British, but being a drunken wanker in Poland is a defining characteristic" said Opinium Research managing director James Endersby.

"With several stereotypical attributes making the list as well as wider personality traits, it goes to show that Britishness is a complex mix of characteristics."

News / Poland's Lost Generation [172]

Now the hungarian riots happened because the Prime Minister was caught on tape admitting he lied about the economy morning, afternoon and night. But even if this happend in poland, i think people would just shrug and not be very suprised.

The current economic-political situation is just fine. People have money in their pockets

You must live in dreamland. Inflation is at 4.5 percent, wages are stagnant, Pensions are not enough to cover expenses. The country is in free fall.

As I said the signs have been changed to no stag parties. Since 100 percent of tourist stag parties are english or british. Its quite easy to see what they are implying. Stag parties give all poms a bad name in poland. Also there are several skinhead bars that will collect english scalps.

USA, Canada / Employee in USA, work visas and their renewals in Poland? [4]

its probably more of what the american goverment recquires. Its called doing a visa run. Once your visa has expired you have to leave the country to get a new one. If you think she is lovely you might want to give her the benefit of the doubt.

yes there has been a lot of debate about the second line, especially the first section. It duplicates railway infrastracture at massive. cost. At least now they have the bore drilling machiines which mean it will be a lot faster to construct than line 1. Still prague metro puts warsaw to shame!

News / Poland A and Ukraine B. Compare how far Poland has advanced. [282]

yes in fact poland and ukraine are increasing co-operation and warmthness of ties due to increasing issues we have in common. The same is happening with the other slavic country we had troubles before ww2. czech republic.

I am so bored with people caught up in historical details without examining what is happening in the present.

Study / AFRICAN STUDENTS INVASION in Krakow [197]

some of the 'poles' posting with their racist attitutudes are only slightly less pathetic. many poles who otherwise are non prejudiced their achilies heel is racism towards blacks, tho mostly it goes as far as a drunken occaisonal joke. however as the amount of africans increase in poland this will decrease as it is based in ignorance.

4-5 of these guys coming to your favourite club and then some of them getting a hot white girl instead of you,

As you stated before, you wouldn't have got the hot white girl anyway, so it makes no difference if these african guys had come into the club. If they had not come into the club the hot white girl would have gone home with a white or asian guy who is more attractive, confident and more personable than you. You lose and remain lonely no matter if there is african in poland.

Looks like i have solved your racist problem.

with a Chinese guy and see his "luck" with Polish girls

You obv haven't met some of the 'triads' and visiting vietnamese mafia in the upper class clubs in warsaw.

Torq is a realist patriot and you ironsir are an nationalist extremist. sokrates is beyond that, closeminded lunatic.

modernise their country (I don't mean economy and infrastructure, but the legal system, government etc.),

koala Yes and if poland as its western neighbour assists then ukraine becomes both a partner and partialy enters polish sphere of influence. There is already high levels of co-operation.

i think a lot of american poles don't relize how dynamic the situation is in europe, how the eu has changed everything and how former enemies are now good friends for the sake of economic benefit and rediscovered shared culture. Ukraine depends on poland for access to the eu.

The upheavel of people to the new post war reality has already happened. Each nation, poland, czech and ukraine has comfortable majority of people who identify with that country within its borders. These countries, 70 years ago bitter enemies, are now strong allies and are experiencing a common journey into european integration as slavic brothers and sisters. What happaned in the past has become as irrelevant as a scot talking about reclaiming vengeance from england. Just some of the nationalists on this board have not relised it because yes the scars of war are still fresh on families and the cultural psyche. Within a decade such talk of regaining lwow as our land will be relegated to the dustbin of history. Of course minority rights must be respected and the process of reconciliation for ww1/ww2 sins followed through.

You think that Poland is important enough for its history to be taught at schools anywhere other than Poland? Good joke!

First constitution in europe, saved europe from the muslims in vienna just for starters, made possible the cracking of the enigma cypher for starters. Oh and the only place you can get away with the running away from germans crap is on the interet. I doubt you would have the guts to make that statement in polish company if you ever emerge from your expat bubble.

Well, resolved at least until Poland decided to join the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia.

yes that is one way of looking at it. Another would be that they were reinforced their defences before the inevitable invasion. But of course the poles did not expect the french and brits to betray them. The russians waited 8 days before they invaded poland , if britian and france had actually lived up to their treaty agreements russia would not have invaded poland.
