Life / Essential Polish Media [14]

for a Pole there are many classic polpular songs. It's just you who can't apprioprite it.

1. Czesław Niemen (was the biggest star of 60/70s, as a intresting trivia I can say that even Chemical Brothers seems to know him since they used a sample from his song in "The Test")

2. Kult/Kazik (is the biggest star of Polish political rock music)
3. Czerwone gitary (they were like The Beatles, even Rolling Stone Mag give them some award for song "Kwiaty we włosach")
4. Mieczysław Fogg (very popular among elders - he was almost like Frank Sinatra)
5. Paktofonika (legend of Polish hip-hop, intelligent, philosophical texts)

to name a few but I could add many more song performers and writers

Movies (oh that one is easy):
1. Seksmisja
2. Miś
3. Rewers
4. Cwał
5. Kanał
6. Dekalog
7. Nóż w wodzie
8. Sanatorium pod klepsydrą/Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie (even Quientin Tarantino is a fan of those movies!)

Children songs/lulabies/musical songs:
there was very famous Polish song writer who made many song for pre-war movies which became later famous lulabies/songs for children. One of the most famous is "Ach śpij kochanie" (commonly known as "Kotki dwa"). His name was Henryk Wars

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henryk_Wars

Other I would like to mention is forgotten but recently brought to live by Era commercial a tune for words of Jan Brzechwa - spooky and surrealistic "Rada puchaczy".

As for novels:
Akademia Pana Kleksa
Awantura o Basię
Sierotka Marysia i 7 krasnoludków

Poems of Jan Brzechwa and Julian Tuwim

Life / Differences in Polish, American and British mentality [237]

Btw, there seems to be a whole crowd of people here on PF pretending not to be Polish, which speaks for itself.

such as?

Would people in Poland say yes or no to that question?

no because they are not brainwashed with that counselling psychology books yet ;)

Like i said before they asked you to join but could never force you to

True and Harry knows that but sorry to say that you are obviously not smart enough to see that they are just teasing you...

as for being a kierownik after half a year, not many people in mid 70's had engineering degrees and job training in East Germany.

many did have. Not sure about the training in Easter Germany though. Nevertheless how many kierowniks was in this factory? Cetainly not only one - so don't insist that yout dad was something extraoridinary.

SO next time ask before making up assumptions that appeal to your liking.

Do you really think that he didn't know that?

in Warsaw

I was in Warsaw in 2004 and in 2008 - and I saw big difference. I couldn't believe it's the same city.

I apologize Martynka, and to you Puella, yea you girl ;)

ok. Could you apologies for the racist and antisemitic statements and slurs you've used before as well?

Havok don't you think that your generation might be completely different than young Poles generation? The problems you are talking about are somewhat incomprehensible for recent generation. Recent generation is not so complex ridden as you were.

Will Poland collapse just because he has chosen a life in a country he likes

I think Poland will collapse if Harry decides to leave Poland ;D

Personally, this forum helps me understand things about me. Seriously AJ i have nothing to prove to you. It's about me, me, me more than about you.

Sometimes if feels like I'm arguing with myself Polish-self here... if you know what i mean.

complxes.

Gotta go. Laterz Polacks.

I think he didn't learn anything...

Pretty damn obvious from your use of Polack that you're not who you say you are, but rather some rather bored college student who had to sit by as his girlfriend got nailed by some Polish guy.

His wife is on the forum.

Fair game, you're vicious, mean, competitive and persistent... must be Polish-American than.

I see anything vicious in my comments, mean or persistent. I just wanted to say that I don't care about your impression of me. I accept it and want to move on

wow, you're so swift, you're attempts at trying to provoke me are pathetic.

but I don't. You have asked about my opinion so I told you. I found 3 distinguished Polish-American PF users very arogant. And you were among them. Sorry but that's the impression you made on me. It's not a provocation, merely my honest opinion.

What gives you the right to judge me lady?

You gave it to me by asking such question as in the thread subject. I just used you as an example.

no i'm looking down on you, because you got no life lady.

oh, so you started picking on me? I thought you want to discuss and explain things...

like puella try to use it to make a point about arrogant Polish-Americans.

because you are arogant! everything about you is arogant! why don't I think that British are arogant? tell me why?!

Oh sorry I forgot about Skysoulmate. He is the one not arogant here. Really nice guy which I like so much. But its probably the Swedish upbringing. He can discuss even if some disagree with him.

Do you really think it’s ok for kids to live with their mommy and daddy forever?

No but it's Polish reality.
I don't want to go back to this discussion again but I just wanna say that you showed then your true colors. You started to boast about yourself and called other people losers.

Off-Topic / Penn and all I owe you an explanation... ref to Polish vs. British vs. American [38]

I've read the whole thing and it was clear to me that you guys cornered him, pushed and pushed and he finally snapped.

No. First I was telling Harry that this is all stupid, that he must be very bored, and the thing about Penn's (great) grandpas. Then Penn thanked me. Then I wrote that Harry should stop libel his family because he doesn't know them but then I've read rest of his posts and noticed that they are vulgar, racist and antisemitic (which I couldn't accept) so I decided to cancel my credit I gave him by editing content. I wrote that if Penn wants to thank me he'd better shut up. I also mocked his higher education because I feel that his language and behavior doesn't become to a person with higher education (his behaviour was below any level of decency). He started to call me and my family vulgar names. Note I did not use any offensive term towards him. I didn't curse. I didn't participate with all that rage. But he crossed the borders with me and I feel that he should be suspended for that for good.

greed and pride to show off that they have more and are better than everyone else.

sorry to say that but sounds like Havok (I remember when he started to post here and laugh out that young people in Poland leave home so late)

When Americans come to Poland, they visit the country, find their roots, they are interested in the history of Poland, culture, food, etc.

That's intresting because many Poles find such Americans very arogant - they don't like anything here and they don't mind at all to criticize every small thing aloud.

Off-Topic / Penn and all I owe you an explanation... ref to Polish vs. British vs. American [38]

No you're not but some people are doing their best to make you that way. This is exactly what happened to PB.

Are you kidding?! Guesswho learn Polish maybe then you'll understand what PB have done yesterday. He should be suspended right then when he called me k*rwa and started to insult my mother without any reason (and it was just after that when I wrote that Harry should stop libel his family). He deserves all what he got. He is a terrible racist and an antisemite. He started to call Torq and Harry "jews"...

It seems he is an immature kido. If such people gratuate college in US it doesn't mean anything good about US education - he certainly haven't grown enough to have a diploma and represend any higher education institution. He is a disgrace for them.

And example conversation between a A and B. Who is Polish and who is American?

are you sure that this American is not really a British expat in the USA? ;)

But Harry is Australian...

Didn't see the context, but for those who mightn't realise, this was almost certainly a joke.

It was Harry vs PennBoy. The whole discussion in in the trashbin.
I also don't understand those pairs of sentences. Is an example of what?

Jugding by comments of Americans here:
Polish male Americans (including you) are very arogant. They feel as if they were something better than Poles who live in Poland and look down on Poles.

Pure Americans seem to barely get jokes, sarcasm etc. unlike British who mastered sarcastic remarks even better than Poles :)

British (including Irish) have lots of good sense of humor and are more laid-back. Poles are easy to upset and go angry easly. They have very little distance to "Polish issues".

I think that British are much better into Polish way of being, they understand pretty well Polish "culture" and Polish issues, they get on well with Poles... much better than Americans, I guess. Maybe that impression of mine is due to the fact that there are far more active British users on PF than American ones.

Polish people tend be really paranoid, and it pisses me off, so I gave up.

Yeah, that's true.

I’m thinking: seriously? Do you interview everyone before you meet them at the bar? Somehow this kind of paranoia just turns me off. I’m sure it’s perfectly normal to ask that question in Poland though.

well, yes. You might be a raper for instance...

Language / Polish - Absolute Beginner Questions. Study plan. [75]

Step 5 - Study Polish grammar(Cases and so on).

I'm Polish and I believe that it should be step 4.

(Logically, the step 5 should appear before or with step 4, but I wrote it that way since I learnt that there are more exceptions than rules in Polish grammar.)

You won't understand much if you don't know basic grammar.

Feedback / How many hours a day do you dedicate for PF and how often? [21]

I'm thinking about creating a therapeutic group for PF-addicts in this thread. I've noticed by reading goodbye threads:

ronside The End - Today is my last day on PF.
Trzymajcie się ciepło
Saying goodbye - I'm leaving PF for good.
How can I delete my account?

that many of you wants to cut off with PF... but can't stop posting here! The craving is too strong. So that's why I want to make a support group for such users. Who wants to subscribe and be the first patient???

PS
There should be also a special PF anger management group as well. But I will think about it later... ;>

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

Would you be offended if it was aimed towards an American who was using his "Polishness" to justify his racist, village idiot behaviour that was reflecting badly on anyone who was actually Polish?

there are many other words you can call him. You don't need to use ethnic slurs for that.
