I just wanted to say threads really look neat this way, and with the boxes on the left, and the amount of space inbetween all the postings, they are so much more pleasant to read, so don't change this please!

;)

Yup they are nice, the only thing I'm a little worried about is that the nickname/ profile name pushes the message text panel to the right, which means that someone with a really long nickname gonna quite visibly change the width of the message text panel. it might create certain inconsitency between consecutive posts.

That's the 'problem'; the only 'solution' would be to put the same width on all posts, but then there is a wide gap for posters with short usernames (or for those who choose not to show avatars in posts).

Hmm couldn't the size of the font of the nickname be slightly decreased, and the box for the nickname stretched onto the upper border of the message text box?

Something like that:

It has been tried, but I'll take a look at it again.

Or you could cap the amount of letters for usernames? I don't see why anyone would want to sign up as fantasticextraterrestrialalienfromouterspace really.. I see what you mean though, but the spacing and the grey colours between posts look good this way, it's much and much easier to scroll up or down, to find a post of interest without losing track of who is who..

and then we will have Arien2, Arien3, Arien75, Arien69, Arien1993 and so on.. barf ; )
anyways, the other stuff like "Gold Member" or "Administrator" also moves the border around.

The thing is not so bad on the eyes, but from time to time I get the feeling that the person whose text box is moved to the right is "replaying" the post above in a tree-like manner. Probably a thing I got used to on some other forum ; )

I like the new format; it is fine, but I wonder if with the changes a spellchecking feature could have been added. Is it too difficult to incorporate? I know spelling correctly is. :)

Well, you have a maximum of 15 symbols, so shouldn't that be the minimum width of the box then? You could cap it to ten aswell. Jump_Bunny will survive, but unfortunately, Polandowns will too. (Maybe nine will do?)

Ermmmmm.......I seem to remember in the long and dim distant past , that once upon a time the Avatars and names were on the left hand of the page?

Reinventing the wheel comes to mind LOL

Isn't easier to just use your browsers build in spellcheck features.. I'm pretty sure every browser has got a range of plugins for that. Mozzilla's FireFox has got one build in from the start.

(Maybe nine will do?)

why not 3? Me and probably Lir too wouldn't mind that ;)

Maybe a 'like' button to click on for the best posts? With a tally of how many clicked?

Merged: Quote and reply buttons. Wrong - just wrong.

First basic rule of interface design especially on widescreen PC - don't put action buttons over on the left, it's the least conspicuous part of the screen. Fail.

Makes sense on iPad, etc, to limit need for vertical scrolling.

So, read the browser object generated by your server & make it conditional on what is making the request. GUI design 101 chaps, come on.
