Australia / Category 5 Cyclon Yasi approaching Queensland [23]

Well for me that sort of weather's going to pay the bills...

By the way, we've got some of Melbourne's sh1tty windy weather... A 6-day heat wave broken by a Southerly Buster.

*Sigh*... you can't have it all!

Lucky there are no more major cities in Australia... cause I think we've just about run out of weather extremes!

Australia / Difficult situation with moving (Australia-Poland) [37]

So let me get this straight... the guy has never stepped foot in *your* country...? Lame!

I'm afraid he won't budge girlfriend... Poles can be lazy too! (And thick headed...) the fact is you know what he's missing... but try telling him that!

You choose.. him or home? You married on the basis of the life you thought you'd have together. The future you both agreed on...? It's not fair that he isn't keeping his word. He has gotten too comfortable with you being there for him.

I had a similar problem... didn't marry thankfully, but there was always anticipation of spouse moving back to Aus with me after I had finished my studies, and that was agreed (and also one of the reasons I completed my studies in Europe...)

Yet he never showed any interest in the place (everything was about his country... Poland...) and when the time came, I was filling in the paper work for him! This was after 6 years of waiting...

Poles are very stuck on the place. If he won't budge then he's not ready to commit to a life with you if it means he has to sacrifice anything back home (which it sounds like you have done for him...) f*ck him. This has caused enough grievance for you... if he won't keep up his end of the bargain, how's he going to be with other situations where you have *both* come to an agreement about something? He'll be f*cking you around and wasting your time...

''You've been cheated oh so blind you laid it on the line, those twisted words of time...''

You want different things fundamentally... you can't give up everything for him indefinitely... that's not a relationship. And if he won't do for you what you have done for him then maybe there's some underlying malfunction with your marriage (sorry). There *has* to be an element of wanting the same things...

Tough and painful situation no doubt. But just cause he's European or Polish does not mean he knows what's best for both of you... and you can see where his prospects and commitments there extend for him... (not much of a go-getter is he?)

If you keep going the way you are your relationship will remain dictated by *his* wants... you are right to come back here and wait for him to decide once and for all what he's going to do about his word... Then *you* can take the next step. Cause *you* need to know one way or the other...

Ultimatums are a poor substitute for communication.

Yes but it seems in this case, she is being lied to...

Question: Do you love him?

UK, Ireland / Estimated number of Poles in Ireland thought to exceed 200,000 OR over 5% of population. [200]

it's time for you to pack up and go back where you belong and pest over there.

We might be on the same piece of land but we are definitely from different planets!

Most of the Poms are pests?

Using tax payers money in every possible way??

Are you educated girlfriend?

You sound too stupid to be true.
I'm only bad mouthing you sister cause you're a twit.

I belong where I'm entitled to stay.

You think I'm British origin? You think i'm not a citizen?? What do you know about me? Nada!

You sound like you know feck all about origin, nationality, history or when you're sounding like a racist fool.

What would sound good to you about now...? Hmmm. Let me guess... Yes, every individual with an Australian passport with a drop of Anglo blood is a tax bludger. Thank god for all you Poles coming over here and creatin all that revenue!

You do know who *discovered* this continent and broke it in...? And with whose blood sweat and tears the united states of Australia was founded??

I'm sorry but the crux of it is you are on British soil. (Politically speaking)
You better correct yourself sister, cause most of what you're enjoying now was established long before you got here by hard working Anglos. And the tax system which obviously serves people better than it does in your country of origin is a welcome relief to many...

If one doesn't need it, good on them. But your argument is biased on the basis that if you weren't capable of working here you probably wouldn't have been invited to stay...?

Don't look down your nose on Poms idiot. 70% of the people or more have English/ Scottish/ Irish/ Welsh ancestry. I fuckin hate your attitude. It lacks sense.

No-one would disrespect Poles like that if they were living within her borders... You've got the concept of assimilation all wrong.

Genealogy / Just found out I'm Polish! [45]

Okay let's look at how a man named Wilson in Texas who lived a hundred years ago entitles someone to think they're Polish... :S

I'm JUST being honest.

But I'll leave it now...

I'm sentimental about cynicism...

It is a lovely discovery and I wish you all the best....

I'm sorry about your uncle by the way...

Genealogy / Just found out I'm Polish! [45]

so you ask me if I am lookin for sense of identity when your here in a polish forum
also??? responding to a research question that I responded too.. lame.

I'm here to chat with *people*, and I don't give a sh1t where they're from... and I don't assume that national identity is more than just a front anyway...

What makes it interesting is the diversity of cultures and inputs... I wouldn't be here otherwise...

yeah, so your point is??????????????????????

why did you come to a polish forum ashley?????? to shoot the breeze?

Is there a rule about not praising perceived Polishness every damn day...?! Step off and ignore my comment if it doesn't please you... or is it making you think...?

you can do that outside this forum.. this is a POLISH FORUM>>>>>>>

There is nothing inherently Polish about an internet forum... I mean, I don't smell the Kielbasa burning and I certainly don't detect a lot of Polish language here... So I'll stay if you don't mind... (and make believe I'm Polish too.) It's fun!

so whatever someone who wants to learn about, whether its history, or
about their family, why the hell does that bother you so much???

your pot is so black it makes the kettle look bad.

Hey there's a lot of information exchange that goes on here without my interference...! As I said, I have a different view on nationalism.. no, on genetic nationalism... I think it's bullshit! On the basis that genes don't tie you to a piece of dirt... your inherent romanticism does, if not your house, language or job...

A border is a political construct... but at *least* you want to be living within those borders... ;)

join the del movement ehh, well, I guess you should turn in your polishness, cause
hes anti polish, you can pass judgement on those who are polish , you have some real
big problems....

I have no interest in my Polish ancestry beyond a perverse interest... I'm more into how we're evolving as a species and relating to each other as one race...

Yep

Yep

Yep

Oh and by the way... HUMANS are inbreeds... especially when they call themselves from one particular tribe such as Slavs.

Prove my point sister.

I have Polish heritage too... is it relevant? Only in so much as that is where my grandmother's mother gave birth to her. I find it hard enough comprehending and belonging to my *own* country in this *particular* century... why would I want to complicate it by trying to belong to something I'm not from a bygone era...? (Looking for a sense of identity..?)

We're ALL related... I just hate this exclusion on the basis that you're not from glorious Slavonia!

And interesting the number of people who want to belong to Poland's past but not its future...

When does the umbilical cord get cut?

ALL history is important... and I hate to say it, but it really has nothing to do with you beyond your heightened and irrational interest based on the people you are related to who passed through there on the long journey known as *the migration of man...*

I mean why stop in Poland? Why not trace your roots right back to Africa...?
Oh no wait, don't answer...

UK, Ireland / Estimated number of Poles in Ireland thought to exceed 200,000 OR over 5% of population. [200]

1.

Who are you to judge Poles like that? Can you tell what's your nationality?

1.I spent plenty of time in Poland and many years around Poles. I can't stand the holier than thou crap spurted here and elsewhere that Poles work soooo much harder than anyone else in the countries where they migrate to. I will judge bullshit when I see it.

A hard working and *functional* work force should be able to raise a strong enough economy at home, no? Actions speak louder than words there, and facts speak for them self!

And, actually, I can have whatever opinion I want regardless of my nationality... it's experience and exposure that gives understanding...
I never was more aware of racist elitism than when I was living amongst Poles... fact!

2.

I live in Au long enough and did not meet one person of Polish origin who lives from benefits or is lazy like English (or from British origin) people are, here in AU.
Do you know that the most dirty suburbs in Australia are where Poms (people of English origin) usualy live. I was told this (by teacher) at my English classes ; it's not hard to find these places; most of these people live in government sponsored houses, are on benefits, doing nothing, except using drugs and alcohol.

2. What bollocks! What an interesting study: ''Dirtiest suburbs in Australia and the blood line of the people living there...''?!
See here you are making sweeping and favourable generalisations once again about Poles. PEOPLE do what they have to do in any circumstance to get by... or are Poles immune to these requirements??

Poles have other ways of adapting to difficult economic circumstances if benefits are not an option. These include staying at home, living off their parents when they are studying, getting jobs through their family or other connections, and until quite recently, giving bribes... How can you say that this doesn't happen?! Poor, righteous Poles...

An insecure immigrant with a superiority complex will try to overcome his/her situation by slagging off everything they can about the citizens of their adopted country... Poles have proved this time and time again. THEY ARE WHINGERS!

You lot have no problem insulting others, but can't take it yourself.

And I know what a f*cking Pom is...

3.

Look at Poles in Au, they are hard working people, they don't need benefits because they are too rich to even qualify for any help from government. Similarly, same with other nationalities, like Russians, Italians, Greeks, Serbs and many more.
Did you mean you don't like Poles because they know how to live their life, Ash?
I am sure it is why you and the like of you don't like this special skills about other nationalities.

3. You are making me laugh. Your generalisation now is basically completely anti-British in sentiment, in favour of just about every other European ethnic background that resides here. So now you're trying to create the dichotomy that "the original colonisers are no good but everyone else is better and more morally sound"... F*CK off!

You've missed the whole point of this country entirely... there is no "them" and "us"... if you're here, you're an Aussie. Don't bring your European segregation crap with you and get into your pathetic little comfort zone with (I've noticed) other Europeans...(no mention of Asians, Indians, or Iranians I noticed...) And learn some respect for the country that houses you.

I have no problem with your *skills* you're coming across as a typical rhetorical Pole.
Your world is so well controlled. You're not worthy of my time.

Yours is the typical lash out of an immature Pole against anything Anglo/ British whilst quite happily living in her countries and her colonies. F*ck off back to Poland. I've got no problem with Poles, but I *do* just treat them like other mortals... a fact you guys have a problem with with your trite superiority complex and *philosophy of the Slavs...* PLEASE! Save it! It stinks. And trust me, I'm qualified enough to know... ;)

I know plenty of lazy Poles... they live off their parents if they can't live off the state...

I will say this again... THERE ARE LAZY POLES. JUST LIKE THERE ARE LAZY PEOPLE FROM EVERY BACKGROUND... Just like there are alcoholic drunks and mischievous thieves from every nationality in the world (maybe not Innuits?)... DEAL WITH IT!

And I thought you guys had a sense of humour...? You can't if you take yourselves *that* seriously!!

God and even when you live in another country for 3 generations you still harp on about the importance of being Polish.... What is it with you guys...?! :S

UK, Ireland / Estimated number of Poles in Ireland thought to exceed 200,000 OR over 5% of population. [200]

The reason why there are excessive poles in Ireland are because Ireland has a wacky liberal government which hands out welfare to poles and poles come to take advantage of and exploit Ireland.#
THe poles are not liked , wanted or respected in Ireland.None of the immigrants are. I live in Ireland and alot of the violent knife crime is committed by poles. They are a violent dishonourable peoples in the eyes of the Irish.

No need to over step the mark...

Why do u people boast about destroying a once lovely country. Now Ireland resembles a ghetto with all the eastern europeans, blacks, gooks and pakis. The country no longer exists...it has died. You should be ashamed of yourselves you horible racist, anti-semitic, greedy people.I hope immigrants come to your nation like you have come to ours...and THEY ARE AND THEY WILL!

I can imagine your feelings...
I would call it some sort of structural damage. It's not fair but it is unstoppable. The world is changing. Irish have immigrated for centuries... You yourself know that. That's the way the world is now... multicultural with an influx of third world people everywhere. The way the world was exists only on postcards now... I guess we just have to learn to get along, respect and contribute as best we can... So that future generations have a better chance of assimilating.

But for Poles to stand in critical judgement of their adopted homes just smacks of hypocrisy. They are too proud to admit all the reasons they left their beloved Poland and it makes them a bit schizophrenic... But catch them unawares and they will tell you alllll the reasons.

Immigrants are unfortunately, by nature, idealists. No place is perfect.

Law / Question about the drinking laws of Poland. [45]

America is not all about "slums" Ash. He stays there because he chooses to live in a Polish community, that's all. Whoever can afford it, doesn't live in the "jungle" like this in the states.
In smaller towns or in a countryside you don't see the kind of scenes he described.

I know Princess and I was only responding to his story... (I'm rational... just)

You will for sure find some examples of lazy poles but compared to your own natives they ain't even close to living off "tax money".

God I can't stand trite Poles...

Go back to your country if you find anything lazy or distasteful about where you currently live...

Law / Question about the drinking laws of Poland. [45]

Ok I'm 16 years old and going to Poland, when I get there I will be 17. Now I am pretty sure Poland has no set "drinking age" but you have to be 18 to purchase and I was just wondering how strict Poland enforces that law. Now I'm not just going to Poland to drink, I was just curious so keep that in mind.

Who waits til they're the legal age anyway pray tell???

It's too hot to keep this beer cool...
