History / Pomerania -a Polish land since the creation of Poland and the German invaders. [60]

LOL

Bratski just can't help himself sometimes! *grins*

As for "welcome back" , thanks but I never really left. I pop in a read threads every once in a while, but so much of it is the same stuff recycled, that I didn't really have anything to say. :)

I was not completely surprised that there is still fighting over places like Pomerania. Seems like in any place where there was more than one entity occupying the space at any given time, it causes a rift between the occupants past, present and future!

After reflecting on how ardent these discussions are (after how many years?) I now have a better understanding of why ppl in the Middle Eat will never be able to share the holy places among them selves. There is something in human nature that wants to say "this is mine, not yours!" that no can share. Oh well.

Wow, I still we are still fighting over cities that had Polish/German inhabitants! LOL
Anything NEW on PF?

Why not make one big thread an call it : "Contested Cities of Polish-German History: Gdansk, Silesia, Pomerania"

Then we can add any other cities that feel left out! :)

One stop fighting, you know, get it all done in one thread!

News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [493]

Regarding Russia...far more democratic than authoritarian...not to say there aren't problems, but seriously.

You seem so cozy wrapped up in those delusions.
The propaganda that Russia cranks out is stunning.
Sometimes I show the online English version of Pravda to friends so we can laugh at the spin that Ruskies put on current events. Its better than the Late Show with David Letterman.

Russia will never be democratic as long as Putin draws breath.
And who knows, maybe he will be able to control Medevev from beyond the grave.
Rasputin would be so proud.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Shetland was historically a Norse society. The language known as Norn was spoken there, in Orkney and the very far north of Scotland.

Donkey, why do you know so much about languages? Do you have a degree in linguistics or something. I have seen you comment on language in threads with Crow about the movements of ancient Slavic tribes, and in the DNA thread involving language, and so now I am very curious. Is this a hobby or more than that? :)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

If Navajo is so difficult and unknown, hot did they train American soldiers in it in time to use it in battle?

They didn't. They used Navajo men as soldiers who were the code talkers.

Navajo was an attractive choice for code use because few people outside the Navajo themselves had ever learned to speak the language. Virtually no books in Navajo had ever been published. Outside of the language itself, the Navajo spoken code was not very complex by cryptographic standards and would likely have been broken if a native speaker and trained cryptographers worked together effectively.

History / Polish-German alliance. [489]

I wanted to point out something here.....
Primarily it is Christians (past, present...whatever) who go out to take over a non-Christian group of people with the intent of converting them to Christianity. Christians are not exclusive to Germany in history.

In today's world, you might actually find a fair amount of heathens in Germany who are quite content not to be Christian.

Just thought you might find that interesting.

History / Polish-German alliance. [489]

Russia was Hitlers obsesion, Poland was briefly considered as a viable ally, of course these have been brief musings of several staff oficers but mainly because of Polands opposition rather than Nazi Germany not wanting to.

Where did you read something that supports this idea? It seems so contrary to everything ever written about Hitler and Nazi Germany?

when asked what was Hitlers biggest mistake he told me "not allying with Poland".

I would have said the biggest mistake was invading Russia......

Genealogy / Why are some Polish people dark complected, and others very light [511]

originally all Slavs looked like Byelorussians (Bialorusini) who mostly have brown hair and eyes, and are believed to be of the the purest Slavic blood.

Why would Belarussians be purest Slavs? Did they not get to mix with others over history? I don't see any barriers.....

*scratches head*

i don't know what's wrong with American guys,

The biggest, most important flaw to watch out for is SELFISHNESS.
The "black hole" kind that knows no bounds....

If you can find an American male who is free of this disease, you are already way ahead of the rest. Everything else pales compared to this.

Love / Polish Women Versus Your Local Women ? [289]

But the threads here aren't solely about boobs.
And they tend to be on the disparaging side, especially toward English girls. Who's writing this stuff?

Wanna hear about all the faults typical of American men (no I didn't think so). I bet I could get a really long thread going on that one!

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

SVASTIKA and many other ancient symbols belong to Slavic heritage.

Just so you know....it also appears in Native American culture in the US. This is an ancient symbol......older than we can imagine. :)

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

"What kind did you want? Speak up man!"
*Whacks Filios on the head with bar towel*

*shopski sits down at table next to Filios*
*looks questioningly at Bratski*

"Yeah, how come you favor the Russkies so much? I did wonder about that. It's not what I would expect."

*Whispers to Filios..."he doesn't like to talk politics with me....sometimes he won't even answer me..."*
