News / Kaczynski to be buried at Wawel ?! [289]

The fact remains that the President was killed whilst performing his duties as President, he was democratically elected by the majority of people

So why wasn't Gabriel Narutowicz burried at Wawel?

and died a loved leader,

Definitely no. He became a loved leader after his death. While he was alive, he was "loved" by no more, than 20% of Poles, while a majority thought he was an inappropriate person for this office.

Counting myself within this majority, I really admired Lech Kaczyński for his trials to improve relations with Jews, Ukrainians and Lithuanians, even against his party. Unfortunately, these were the only cases of LK going against his party's line. And I'm sad, that Jarosław Kaczyński managed to spoil mourning and divide Poles with such an idea. He must have known it would be a provocation. No one would say a bad word about LK, if Jarosław had not come with it.

Wawel is a place where people are buried who supported their country in a traditional catholic faith for a better Poland, Kaczynski will go down as a great political leader who wanted a true independent Poland, not a Russian or US State.

Wannabe is not enough. Poniatowski is remebered for commanding Polish forces in Napoleonic Wars and dying in a battle, Sikorski is remembered for commanding Polish forces in exile during WWII and dying on that occasion, Piłsudski is remembered as a father of independence and CiC during the Polish Soviet War (although his merits for Poland could be debated). Does Kaczyński really fit there? He will be remembered as a president, who died in an aircrash.

Some Poles on internet forums do :-( I repeat: it's sad, that Jarosław managed to divide Poles with his decision.

Yes,a pilgrimage to Kaczynski would exceed that to Pope John Paul 2 for sure.

Maybe Cardinal Dziwisz agreed to bury him at Wawel, expecting much increase in selling tickets to Wawel graves? ;-) If he was buried at Powązki, all the people could see the grave for free. I wonder, if the family also would have to buy tickets...

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

Yes, KGB finished off a pilot and president Kaczyński with gun shots hoping, that these stupid Polish investigators wouldn't notice bullet holes in heads?... Or maybe they used German-made ammunition to evade suspicions?... This is the stupidest thing I've heard lately :-)

News / Poland back to reality after Sunday ? [30]

Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss!

I prefer it to living in paranoia :-)

You will see Tusk clawing his way to the presidency.

You will see he won't. It is a prime minister, who rules the country (backed by parliamentary majority of course), while a president may only obstruct things, having no real power.

Life / Any good Polish films to watch? [110]

Demony Wojny Wg Goi (The Demons of War according to Goi).

..according to Goya :-)

Nice, heartwarming low-budget film, that I recommend, is "Sztuczki" (Tricks) -
imdb.com/title/tt1094278

It was most awarded Polish film of recent years, also on foreign festivals.

I can also recommend a 1971 comedy "Nie lubię poniedziałku" (I don't like Monday) imdb.com/title/tt0067484
It's a light and dynamic bunch of intersecting stories of several people during one day in Warsaw. It captures a live in Poland in the 60s, but is less hermetic (and less sarcastic), than "Miś" or "Co mi zrobisz, jak mnie złapiesz" (which are classic lampoons of a life in communist times, but probably lose half of humour for a viewer, who doesn't know, what communism looked like).

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I've browsed beeradvocate.com recently (thanks to somebody, who put the link earlier in the topic), and Perła is a good one, pretty good are £omża, Okocim Zagłoba, Okocim OK and Warka. Highly estimated there (A) are porters, but this is the kind I rarely drink, so I can't tell.

Good one was Żubr... but it was probably when it was brewed by Dojlidy, before its sale to SABMiller or whatever.

News / Crash of Tu-154 at Smolensk-North--could it have been a bomb in the Polish plane? [233]

YOU still haven't explained how a plane like the Tup (by all accounts, 'nie gniotsa, nie łamiotsa'), travelling just meters off the ground at approx. 200 km/h would end up 'rozpierdolony w mak,' along with its passengers.

Looking at wreck photos, they look quite normal for a jet passenger plane trying to land in a forest. Soviet aircraft had no thicker tin sheets, than others. I don't see it is in "drobny mak"

Anyway, bombing the plane would be as naive idea and easy to reveal, as shooting at survivors in a face of videotaping witnesses, without silencers in addition ;-)

News / Crash of Tu-154 at Smolensk-North--could it have been a bomb in the Polish plane? [233]

If you talk about myself I don't believe it was a "a pilot error" - at least there could be anythig else that lead him to make an error.

Right. Because as we know, pilot's errors NEVER happen. It's just impossible. Also, planes don't fall down. In case of Casa crash several years ago, it was also Russians, who put the bomb - and Polish commission was so stupid, that didn't notice evidences. Oh, I forgot - it was 2008, so probably Tusk's government concealed evidence. Yes, and the Russians also caused a crash of two aerobatics aircraft in Radom several years ago, hoping, they would fall on audience. Probably they implanted a chip to a pilot, while he was asleep, and in a critical moment, a remotely controlled electrical shock led to a crash.

I'm sorry, but I can't stand rubbish. Pilot's error is easiest to explain theory in such case - unless something contradicts it. Accidents sometimes just happen.

History / Battle of Warsaw movie in production [24]

The same Czechoslovakia which was invaded by Polish troops in 1938 than by Nazi troops.

I'm not justifying quite shameful Zaolzie action, but speaking of invasions: the Czech invasion on Zaolzie in 1919 was definitely more bloody, than the Polish one in 1938 (the Polish Army invaded and the Czechoslovak forces withdrew, on "agreement" between both governments). I know you'd like to kick Poland, but maybe you should read more history.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I quite like Perlenbacher Pils from Lidl

Luckily, Perlenbacher is not a Polish beer. Even Tyskie is better IMHO ;-) (and beeradvocate says: avoid)

Seanus: thanks for pointing my attention at Goolman :-) I don't think I would buy this beer on my own initiative.

Also a good one is Piast, despite its Carlsberg Poland allegiance. £omża is OK- but Perła is probably the best choice on the market (I can say this after a 10-day holiday upon a lake :-)

I agree. Note, that Lublin Brewery (Perla maker) is I probably last Polish big brewery not bought by large multinational concerns. Moreover, they introduced Perla unpasteurised (niepasteryzowana) - my best discovery this year, very refreshing. £omża unpasteurised is similar and also good. And I've finally tried Ciechan - it deserves its reputation, though its taste wouldn't probably fit most of Tyskie lovers.
