Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

Them guys in Poland who weight lift or take martial arts classes who go sober to football matches just to fight have some tough guys amongst them.

Sure, but they're fighting other people who want to fight them. It's no fun just beating on someone.

What was your friend Mexican?

Half black.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

This guy is some nitwit trying to stir things up he's not Egyptian nor has he ever been to Poland.

Why do you think that? There are plenty of people around here looking for a reason to beat someone up.

Let me guess, 5 or 6 of them, probably 16-30, big poofy jackets, reek of cheap booze... But they're a bunch of pussies. Even when they have numerical superiority, they'll step back when you make it clear that you're up for a fight. I've never had any problems until my friend from the states came over, who's a bit darker. Anyway, those losers can't fight. Some of the hooligans on the other hand are pretty hardcore, but only tend to fight when provoked, and it's usually one on one. Just my two cents.

Work / Close Protection (Bodyguard) - popular line of work in Poland? [19]

Are there any international organizations that you could contact? I'm guessing like with just about anything else in Poland, it would be best to start your own company. I've used APC in Wroclaw, it's run by a guy name Piotr. He speaks English.

Good luck!

History / Sabaton 40-1. Poland WW2 (updated with: Uprising) [39]

The German 1st Kavallerie-Brigade:

Interesting. Apparently they were used for patrol. Towards the end of the war they built up a couple of full cavalry divisions to act as scouts and for partisan warfare.

Have some reading to do.

Life / How do Polish people in Poland respond to Polish people abroad....? [17]

For example, that they might say you're not Polish, you know nothing about our history, you're not part of this country, you weren't here when we fought for our freedom from communism, you're different from us etc. and that Polish citizens living abroad would be treated as "lower class"??

A good healthy chunk of my friends were born abroad....they don't seem to have any problems. And if any university student even mentions struggling under communism, then they've been in uni way too long and their opinions don't really matter :)

Come over, enjoy.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

Have a link to that? A couple of years back the parent company of Real bought up all the Walmart property in Germany btw. They don't have the equity to make any large scale acquisitions in order to get a foothold in continental Europe where retail margins are already tiny. That said, I'd like to see them over here, but the pricing would have to be at a premium to the established places in order to have the same experience as in the US. Asda is a good example of a kind of half Walmart...

BTW, the point was that those shops are already paying bottom of the barrel wages. Can't get any lower.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

Walmart will take over Real and set up shop- get away will paying sub wages etc, etc and the place will be packed.

And then all those well paying Real, Biedronka, Lidl, and Tesco jobs will go away :(

News / Did George Soros want to destroy Poland with his economic shock therapy? [87]

Then, said Soros, the state must act to bankrupt its own industrial and agricultural enterprises, using astronomical interest rates, withholding state credits, and burdening firms with unpayable debt.

Let's see how that was actually written:

Stop supporting unviable Communist-era businesses by charging market interest rates, not providing grants of taxpayer money, and stop forgiving the debt that they owe to ordinary citizens.

Sounds like capitalism vs socialism, or?

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

Circumcision is a personal choice of parents, much as is to breast feed or not...

Fair enough, which is probably why it's only practiced in Poland by Jews and Muslims. Parents have made the personal choice not to chop their kids for various reasons that are mentioned earlier in the thread.

News / EU presidency to cost Poland 110 million euro [33]

What do you think of the Polish EU Preisdency?

Well, it's an obligation first and foremost. Will be interesting to see the influence over energy policy.

Food / Does Poland have any similar beers to guinness? [22]

I dunno how you guys can drink those types of beers, to me they taste like motor oil. I'd choose a nice lager any day.

Most porters are technically lagers :) I'm guessing you like pale lagers, usually too bland for me. Motor oil/chocolate milk, mater of perception I guess.

Anywho, Polish Porter roundup:

Black Boss is great
Kozlak is alright
Okocim is good, and available all over the place
Ciechan is awful

Food / Does Poland have any similar beers to guinness? [22]

Most of the porters in Poland are heavier than Guinness. Zywiec sells a pretty decent porter that you can find just about everywhere. There are a couple of places that do excellent porters, they're just a bit more difficult to get a hold of.

Work / Salary, holidays - questions to employer during a job interview in Poland [47]

In today's job market there are always 20 other people applying for the position that you're seeking to get too.

It depends. Quite a few higher end specialized IT jobs come with a salary range posted, and nearly all contract jobs are posted with a salary. Honestly, it's a waste of time for both sides to play the salary game. Even for entry level jobs, I post a salary. Everyone goes in knowing what to expect.

They're also "yearly, gross" values rather than the Polish habit of "monthly, net"... or sometimes "monthly, gross" which I also find endlessly confusing :)

Gross is the only thing that should be posted. Net salary is impacted by quite a few variables and makes no sense to post.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

They're not in a position to buy a house and shouldn't be given a loan under any circumstance. They're obviously having problems finding decent work. If they're highly educated, they could move to any of the larger cities and pick up an entry level job earning twice what they're making. Renting gives them the flexibility to move to where the jobs are instead of waiting for jobs to come to them. Like Harry mentioned earlier, maybe they should get jobs at McDonalds to increase their income?

BTW, I hired a guy for entry level installation work in Krakow. He's 22, I'm paying for his initial certification, and he makes almost as much as much as both of them combined.

Here's some food for thought, it's in Polish but I think it's pretty self explanatory.

Real salaries from up north of Wroclaw.

Law / Weapons laws in Poland. Carrying a concealed handgun? [918]

I am moving to Warsaw in September and was wondering what the weapons laws are there. I normally carry a concealed handgun in the US where I am licensed.

By and large there's no reason to CC in Poland. I've had one instance where I would have left holes in a group, but it was racially motivated. 99% of the time, assault here involves both parties being under the influence (at or outside of bars, clubs), you wouldn't carry in the US in that situation either. I carried every once in a while when I lived in the Czech Republic, mostly when camping. But for the most part, no need.

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

Well...our's live on quite well even without the lingua or work or graduating school....

Broken social system. Get rid of all the social welfare programs that worthless Germans have been abusing for years and you'll only get immigrants that want to work and integrate. Not that hard.

Polonia / Anyone travelling from Warsaw to New Delhi willing to take some of my belongings (photos)? [30]

Those photos are not in sofware, its in album.

That's what I mean. Just have them scanned and then ship it over. It's not very expensive.

By the way, my post heading is edited by moderator, which is a bit unappropriate. My previous post heading was "I need a big favour from someone who travel from Warsaw or Bialystok, Poland to New Delhi, India to carry some of my stuffs".

I just edited it. Try to make the subject very clear to avoid confusion. Having someone "carry some of your stuffs" sounds a bit... peculiar. Asking someone to transport photos that you'd rather not have lost in the mail sounds a bit more legit.

Neither do I support or oppose.

That's a hijab, not a niqab. Hijabs are perfectly legal.

PS, the Muslim graves from your article desecrated with a swastika seems a bit ironic, don't you thing?

But the lefties want even more immigration and asylum...

Because they need them to support the broken welfare system. Check please! The migrants that don't work are very public, the ones that have integrated and are our shopkeepers, teachers, mechanics, LKW drivers, construction workers, those are the ones that we look over...

They're becoming more and more diluted everyday because people are happy not having to be burden with the task of making decisions, and following through with actions.
