Life / Blood donation in Poland [21]

Very good idea! Just type "RCKIK" into google and find one in your city. If you're in Krakow then there is a very nice place at Rzeznicza street, where I go every 2 months or so. Funny as it is, the name of the street means butcher street and they deal with blood there:) - apart from the funny coincidence, the staff, the equipment and interiors etc. are top shelf.

Life / Strange laws in Poland [39]

In Scotland there was once a case of a man "riding" a horse. Both he and it were executed and burned.

Very biblical way of dealing. Or wait, maybe it was in Quran... ;)
Anyway, that's what was supposed to be done.

And this Scottish guy should've taken care of his sheep instead of fiddling with a horse :D

Life / Polish dentistry cost - 230 zl for one tooth cavity filling [99]

That's about 140 PLN per filling, not a rip off. But 8 fillings? That is a large number. You must've waited for years to reach such a state. Anyway, the place where I go gives a 1 year guarantee if you visit them regularly and if not a 6 month guarantee if I recall well, that seems quite reassuring for me.

Law / Is it illegal to burn the bible or any religious symbols in Poland? [30]

what they would have done to you

- Crucify! Hello?! ;)

The mob is going to burn you at the stake and when all is done Radio Maria will pick up your remains and dump'em into Vesuvius

Hahahahahah! Good one, Havok.

So in private, you can burn as many as you want.

Yep, just as any other pulp fiction literature! But books haven't got a very high energy value as combustible material:) If you still persist on burning books (which I'd frown upon), pick a paperback copy, it's cheaper;). Or try coal instead. But if burning the Bible would make you happy - go ahead you bloody blasphemer!!!

[and please, take it as a compliment:) ]

So it is illegal if there are more then 2 complaints...

Will it matter if someone sends a letter of appreciation too? Would it balance the complaints? :)))

You think making love is a hobby?
Better than gardening in my opinion.

You just use different tool and dig somewhere else, that's all.

There are a couple of posters here who clearly have wanking as their major interest in life

OMG who is it! Give names! LOL

Life / Strange laws in Poland [39]

Local regulation are not considered "Law". You can't be charged and sentenced on the basis of local regulations.

Ok, maybe you're right, but isn't it a local law/regulation that a city makes when e.g. there's obligation to clean after your dog makes poo? You can get a ticket if you don't do it. I thought it's local law not countrywide? I found this:

animals.com.pl/open_pl.php?page=pages/page11b_pl.inc

Bit it is nice to see citizens taking care of their neighbourhood too:

Life / Strange laws in Poland [39]

Well, it's on the internet so it must be true!

Touche! ;)

And no doubt Zbigniew Ziobro, down in Krakow, would be well up for it.

You got me scared now, but only for a sec. I think ZZ is mostly out at the Europaean parliament, ridiculing himself there, not here.

I wonder if they just dreamed it up, or is it an exaggeration of the truth?

Exaggeration? You think? - Maybe they shoot in the head after 5 times, not only 3:). Because who the hell gets caught 5 times in a row? :D

We haven't got any local or town laws.

Agreed, except the part above - of course there are local regulations, but maybe not going as far as death penalty or generally criminal law.

breeching tha Animal Cruelty Act

- I bet someone can easily build a defence line on the basis that he was not victimizing but pleasing the animal.

but three-time offenders are shot in the head.

Do you really think that anyone is shot in the head for this? I am pretty sure this kind offence is frowned upon though:)

Food / Eat goulash from a cat and a steak from a dog in Poland! [114]

I have had dogs all my life, some ate it some didnt, and yes their poop is a landmark same
as when they leave a trail of pee on every tree they come across..

True. We agree!

dogs and cats however
are not , so not only would this guy be subjecting humans to disease, but he could also
be sued if someone turns up sick

True!. We agree again. Yeee-haw! ;)

ready to be
eaten by the public.

No? Let us know when they're ready:D

some of these dogs could have rabies or distemper <~not sure of the spelling and of course
other stuff.. when they suspect a cow having mad cow disease, they destroy the animal
same with the chickens and the bird flu. so why would anyone be stupid enough to eat meat
that isnt or hasnt been checked by proper means..

Very accurate insight. I think that's one of the reasons that swine or chicken flu originated in Asia: low hygiene standards and lack of any health standards while preparing food (even the source of this food).

and FYI, I dont eat wild game either for that reason, you just dont know what type
of disease is lurking.
ps... thats my story and I am sticking to it!!

I rarely eat wild game, but you know, you can and should have the meat tested by a veterinarian with certificate. Then it's just as safe as the meat you buy in supermarket. I think most hunters do that.

Law / Healthcare for British Citizens living in Poland [30]

Wroclaw Boy, what if he comes here and starts paying working, which means also paying for healthcare - then if the medicine is on NFZ lists of refunded meds - he'll get them, I think?

Law / Healthcare for British Citizens living in Poland [30]

Hi,
If you are working in Poland then you have to pay for, among other, health insurance (a "public fee"). Then you are treated like any citizen in Poland who has basic healthcare. The question is: are your medicines and treatment refunded also in Poland? - That could be checked if you call or email NFZ - National Health Fund in Poland. If NFZ does not refund this treatment fully of in some % then I guess only some additional healthcare would work, but it'd cost additionally and since you are already in treatment it may be more expensive.

Food / Eat goulash from a cat and a steak from a dog in Poland! [114]

dogs eat their own poop. so if you want that extra zing in your diet,, lol go for it.

I think half of animals do this. And few dogs actually eat it - I had a few dogs in my life an none of them did this. Sure they sniffed it but never licked or eat. Smelling poop is like a landmark to them if you didn't know.

That's why they're to be killed, no one wants them.

This is the aftermath of "animal lovers" - take a pet, never do a crual thing like sterilizing them and there you have dozens of stray cats and mixed race ugly dogs of "pimpek" type. How stupid. I wouldn't agree entirely that they should be eaten;) but it was nice to read all the "animal lovers" and vegetarians' posts rambling on how inhumane this is, real fun.

Food / Eat goulash from a cat and a steak from a dog in Poland! [114]

Well, that's how it works! We eat, then we poop.
Do you suggest eating plants only then?
Plants have feelings and dignity too you know:D
Recently for example I didn't say hello to my carnation and it was angry at me for almost whole week. I would never think of eating its friends and family - the grass. I think I'll go and starve or feed meself with outer space energy...

Food / Eat goulash from a cat and a steak from a dog in Poland! [114]

Why? Because we are so called "thinking creatures" aka. "humans" and we must eat everything we see on our way?

Not everything, just the things we want and that are edible!

Maybe if we would stop and think just a little bit, our asses wouldn't be so huge and our brains so small.

I don't have a problem with weight, I exercise. Are you American by the way?

The body builder?

Yup. Just... look at the dog! :)
Ronnie got it from Dorian Yates.

Life / Best over the counter flu medicine in Poland? [24]

Gripex works well, but bear in mind it only alleviates the symptoms, but doesn't get to the root of the problem,

Paracetamol in Gripex does work on the roots of the problems actually.

you should really, really see a doctor

- yes, immediately!

This may sound silly but try also honey (not in hot tea as temp. over 40C deg. "kills" it) and onions & garlic. You will smell nice but feel better soon!:)

typical lunch in Poland

typically there was no lunch tradition in Poland. It's foreign to Poland so anything you usually eat for lunch can be eaten in Poland too.

Life / Winter in Poland? [161]

Thermals? I'd wait until its -15C or colder before considering them.

A good coat (but not as heavy as ski stuff). Hat and gloves only for the coldest few weeks.

Still, people who come from warmer regions must remember to protect their "royal Rastafarian nay-nays" from freezing (Cool runnings movie).
Anyone knows what's it for?

twit

Nice to meet ya! Howdy!

Another illogical diatribe from Harry is not surprising at all.

This was logical actually. You are a taliban, ortodox, no sense of humor and threatening to behead people. Well, we can just hope you are the kind that does suicide bombing:D

Ironside, maybe you should just remove ironfrom your diet as it obviously does you wrong.

News / Lech Kaczyński statue in Warsaw? [66]

What's weird with a funeral in a timely manner?

As far as I read many of the notable figures that are now at Wawel were initially buried elsewhere, and at least several years later were deicided to be put there.

Two totally different situations.

Ok. But tell me please what was the rush in Kaczynski's case if the investigations hadn't even been finished and it could/can as well turn out that he was pressuring the pilots which contributed to the crash. If it is truth - which we cannot say by now - then putting him already at Wawel is a bit hasty, isn't it? Mickiewicz is just one example among many.

What's weird with a funeral in a timely manner?

Did I or anyone suggest anywhere not to bury him at all?! :D His family tomb is in Powązki I guess, which is second most honourable place for eternal rest. Why not there, with his family? Also he comes from Gdańsk - why not his hometown? Krakow - he never had anything to do with this city so this idea is even more weird. He was not king either.

Wawel doesn't belong to the Church, or anyone - it belongs to the people.

True. But unfortunately the Church administers the chapel [or church, whatever] there and the tombs and the sneaky weasel Dziwisz waas caught lying two times about the case of whose idea it was. Nice example...

you of all people representing the Polish taliban.

Hahahahah:)

Life / Winter in Poland? [161]

Dude, this is not Syberia. It can get cold, but in the cities mentioned (not some outskirts) it can usually be down to -20 C degree. Right now in Krakow it's around -6 I think. Just get some warm socks, some woolen sweaters and a flanel shirt maybe and jeans and you'll be all right.

News / Lech Kaczyński statue in Warsaw? [66]

monuments/statues will no doubt be popping up everywhere.

You know, there is a huge plain around the Giant Geesus in Swiebodzin - plenty of space to erect statues, even giant ones...
There's this weird rush to put the late president to Wawel, to make statues, soon he'll be claimed for beatification ( - who wants to bet it's going to happen sooner or later?). And if it turns out that there was some fault for the plane crass on his side too - would president Kaczynski be removed in infamation from Wawel? I don't think so and I don't think this ever happened before. And as I mentioned, people of much greater positive input to the history waited at least a few years before they were moved to Wawel (Adam Mickiewicz for instance). Same is with statues.
