Work / Planning a move to Wroclaw (a company offers me a Gross salary of 4000 Polish Zloty) [23]

My company is offering me an opportunity to relocate and work in Wroclaw. They are offering me a Gross salary of 4000 Polish Zloty.

You would need close to the double in terms of Gross salary/before tax to support a family of 3 ( if your wife is not working).

Not enough. 2000 PLN would be for housing only. Food would be around 800 zl if you don't go hollywood on meat but your child nappies/diapers will be costly.

Where is your company from ? Can't they do some research about cost of living before offering you to relocate?

In general various social benefits. I have no idea to which you will be entitled to as a foreigner who pay taxes here,

None. Especially for a foreigner upon his arrival. Council houses/Housing projects are reserved for poor people who have spent years in Poland not to mention he would have to apply in Polish, bring tons of personal documents and tax forms and spend hours and hours trying to get the right form.

I don't know who posted 600 zl per month for a flat in Wroclaw, maybe for a student 's bedroom but not suitable for a couple with a baby.

So you should either renegociate the offer with your employer( ask details about Medical Coverage too since a newborn needs a few medical consultations) or just reject it because it is too low.

USA, Canada / The most economical way to ship items from USA to Poland? [2]

You ll need to do some maths and compare if you want to ship your things from the US and if your company does not sponsor you.

You may leave all your stuff at a storage in the US (you will not be able to use any electrical items such as fridge, coffee machine etc exept with adaptators) and just come here to either rent a fully furnished place or buy your furniture at some ikea type of store(OBI etc).

it will be much cheaper .( Also American furniture is huge and may not be practical if you intend to rent a small place.

Work / How To Study In Poland and stay with my GF? Inability to move to Poland looks stupid. [60]

your underdeveloped country.

Turkey is not an under developed country at all!

30 years ago many Turkish immigrants from rural and poor areas moved to Germany France Switzerland etc just like Poles did there was always a big wealthy Turkish middle class whose members never needed to go abroad to make money and extremely rich Turkish entrepreneurs.

Those who wrote that Turkey was a third world country should take a nice trip to Istanbul, Bodrum etc and check figures ( GDP).

As for Kricjak, he might be able get a scholarship at a major university in Poland if he has the right degrees and attended for instance Galatasaray university, however in this matter Poland is the one behaving like a third world country because unlike Yale, Sorbonne,Oxbridge, who has ever heard of a Polish University attracting and giving grants to bright foreign students? !

Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

No, nor did I wish to ask for one.

Zimmy, why the heck did you have dinner with her in the first place ?
If she had paid for your meal would you have considered a second date with her?
You tested her but maybe she was testing you?
In my opinion the person no matter woman or man who initiates a date at a café or restaurant should pay the check in the same manner that someone who invites you over at his/her home for lunch or dinner pays the groceries and prepares the meal.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Wow congratulations Teflcat, your house looks really pretty and it sure does compensate for your 6 years of effort without holiday.
is the inside done too?
It seems that most houses in Poland do not have a piwnica ,no foundations inside the ground ,am i right?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

We have eight layers of foundation brick below the house.

Perfect, this way your house will go to your future generations without any problem.
I have a friend who also built a house( with a building company) but just on the grounds, no foundations below her house, she paid about 220 000 zl in 2007 for about 150M2 without the land.

For me i prefer houses with foundations and a big basement/cellar/piwnica, it seems stronger ( not that there are any hurricane yet in the Krakow region ...) but it just looks stronger and more practical as space is paramount.

Law / How to report and find the consultants in Poland [15]

true i got a lot done including permanent residence, citizenship and passport and real estate closings all by my self

yeah but how much time did you spend? everything takes ages with Polish Admin.

The best for you would be to hire a bilingal Polish l student who just majored in Law for instance and offer him /her a part time or full time job doing everything for you: All He/she will need to do is to put his/her nose in the big Bureaucratic books to make you follow all the rules, go to the different offices ,queue for you get and fill all the forms, make phone calls etc.

If you are a good employer and pay him/her a decent salary , it would be worthy for both of you and would considerably improve your life quality.

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

It really seems to be an American thing.

Sure because waiters and waitresses do not get a guaranteed salary , without tips they would not survive and service is never included in the US.

I thought it was in Poland until i had breakfast 2 weeks ago at a place in Stare Miasto Krakow called Cherubino , i was surprised but it was written in big letters on their menu SERVICE IS NOT INCLUDED.

I always leave tips anyway but i was a surprised, is this legal?( to just depend on tips without a minimum wage?) I thought that in Europe service "has" to be included in cafés and restaurants and it sort of ensures waiters and waitresses get a salary.

Real Estate / TV Show looking for Expat Home Buyers in Poland [13]

If you are currently looking for or have recently bought a home in Poland,

I doubt you ll find an expat who is currently looking into buying a home now( cheaper to rent) but you ll find quite a few who have recently ( 2 years ago)? bought one. Since you already filmed in Krakow and Poznan, i think Lodz and Warszawa were or are quite popular for expats.

Your program sounds great, maybe you could sell it to a Polish Channel, it would be good.

Love / Was the strict Polish family the reason for our break-up? [20]

she broke up with me saying her family would never let us marry.

Her family is racist but she does not have to follow these idiots, it 's her life not theirs.
If she really loves you she ll stay with you, if she prefers to obey her family 's choice then let her go because who wants to marry someone immature who does not stand by her man ?

Law / Why is US $ getting so high or Polish zloty falling? [60]

the Zloty suffers from being a small currency that people will abandon for sometimes trivial reasons.

Well Poland has to abandon the Zloty for the Euro but in my opinion they should have stuck to the Zloty like England with its Sterling Pound or Switzerland with it Swiss Franc and China with its Yuan.

However Poland needed European funds and subsidies badly like Ireland so gave up on its monetary freedom and ability to devaluate its currency when things are bad and reinforce when growth is big.

It will take some time though before we see the Zloty turned into the Euro.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

start at 75zl and go no lower than 60zl.

Don't be silly Delphimomine, do you want this person to blow his chances of getting the job if he requests such an hourly amount?

There is a language school( with offices, employees etc) behind my house in Krakow and they charge their clients 65 zl per hour so tell me how a teacher can ask for 75zl per hour.

No way he ll get that ...

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Any credible school in Warsaw will be able to pay at least 60zl an hour without batting an eyelid

and still make money ? ( remove all the functioning costs, rent marketing etc and see what would be left for the company)

A language school can charge 110 zl an hour or more but how many clients would it get? And for how many hours?

This candidate shoudl keep us posted about how much he was offered ( he can also look for himself if they have a price list on their website and see what they can afford to pay him and still be in business...

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Take away even 75zl an hour for the teacher, and the school still gets 25zl an hour for doing nothing.

They have to get the clients ! that's not like doing nothing given the competition .
Also remove the Language company taxes on top of rent, marketing, books etc from those 25zl margin ,where is the profit ?

I am extremely skeptical that a school would be able to pay that much whether In company courses or school classes but maybe school classes with big volumes of clients/ at least 10 students per class would allow that.

Let's wait until we hear about what was offered to him ,i hope he won't follow your advice Delphiomine because what you did at your job interview was like a game but if he badly needs a job in Poland ...

Work / How to find a job in Krakow? Fluent Hungarian, Romanian and English, just after Master degree in HR [6]

Try all the recruitment agencies in Krakow and also look on Gumtree Krakow in the work section, you can put an ad in English.(you can pay an ad via paypal)

Target international companies HR departments etc

Forget about Hungarian and Romanian language skills because i am not sure Poland has a lot of commercial dealings with Hungary and Romania stick to your good will, experience in technical support .

Good Luck

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

This has only to do with a peculiar "polish" attitude made of a mix of stubborness and misunderstanding of what a market is..

If they can afford to wait ,why sell at a lower price? I personally hate the anglo saxon habit of bargaining for everything. If your budget is 300.000PLN why visit places proposed at 600 000 PLN ? It is annoying for the seller and a waste of time and energy for everyone.

I also saw some ads for rentals with rental prices beeing advertised as "negociable" so what's the point for the owner setting a higher price just for the sake of a future bargaining?

In my opinion if the price is "negociable "it is not the correct price and is somewhat over inflated.
I rented my flat last month to a Polish professionnal but during the process of putting the flat on the market for rent indeed the only people bargaining were an English-Polish couple of "professionals" who contacted several times showed their interest, sent emails and calls , liked the place but in the end had a budget 600PLN lower than the rent i wanted.

It would have just saved my time if they had not contacted me in the first place!

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

The golden rule remains that buyers dictate the price of a property. ie a place is only worth what a person is prepared to pay.

Apparently not given the high purchasing prices for properties now in most Polish cities!

none of the legal sources I consulted seemed to share your views at the time

If Poland is a part of the European community and you are an investor in a legal business i don't see why you were told in 2007 that there were some restrictions .

If the incompetent lawyers you contacted told you that nonsense, you should have asked them the name and reference of the exact law preventing you from settling your own business in Poland.

As far as i am concerned i have never heard of such restricted laws in Poland.(check with investinpoland Website)

Believe me there is absolutely no law to prevent someone to set up a business in Poland whether you are from Latin America, Middle East, China etc as long as :

1) it is a legal activity

2)You are an investor

On the opposite ,Poland is trying to attract Foreign investments and Businesses!

And I challenge any Polish Lawyer to produce the legal documents saying the contrary.

Of course not, if there is no law there is no law.

And in this case there is freedom.

There are some written laws protecting agricultural land which could only be bought by Poles but it was possible to buy agricultural land through a company.

paiz.gov.pl/why_poland

You did not just believe what incompetent lawyers told you verbally ,did you?

And given that operating any other type of business will mean significantly higher start-up costs and running costs, the disadvantage which one can be put at in comparison to persons who can run a dzielnosc gospodarcza is enough to de facto prevent one from doing business on a certain scale in certain industries.

I agree PWEI but this is another question, we were strictly talking about the right for non EU or non US citizens to set up a Business in Poland, and not about costs.

There is no such law that prevents a non European non American citizen to set up a legal Business in Poland.

You PWEI should not post a comment just for the sake of contradiction if you don't have a clue of Polish Law

you claimed that B&Bs in London cost double the price at which a room in a four-star hotel can be had

You Can have a four star hotel in London for the price of a B&B in London (50£ a night for a 4 stars you said, right?) but in Gatwick and certainly not in Central London!

I checked your thread and your bargains are all way out from London center.

You are right PWEI Twickenham is London, 50£ for a 4 stars hotel in Twickenham.

(Allow me to just remind you that i was saying that the monthly rental price of a flat in Krakow was the equivalent of 4 nights at a B&B in London, i should have said 8 nights at a 4 stars hotel in Twickenham)
