Life / Examples of popular Polish music? [1063]

Thanks. Sounds more like a pop version of the Dire Straits than the Stranglers or TRB, though. When was the song released? Not in the 80s, I assume.

USA, Canada / The proper behavior an American should show when visiting Poland [115]

What does that mean?

That stupid smile you get from waiters. Many Americans do the same thing abroad, and if they are not grinning, they are loud and obnoxious and believe that everyone they meet is their friend. See, that's a stereotype, but it's also largely true for our fellow citizens that travel. There's a reason why the French in Paris hate our guts, why the Dutch and Germans think Americans are stupid, why the Italians laugh about our "culture", ... you name it. If you want to tell me that is different in Poland then you simply lie.

my miles cant be used for animal transportation

When was the last time a Trump follower told you to go home to where you came from, my little loudmouth from the Indian subcontinent? You might need your miles soon, better save them.

USA, Canada / The proper behavior an American should show when visiting Poland [115]

I know quite a few Americans of Asian descent and also many expats. They all talk about an increasing number of incidents that happen even here in one of the most diverse parts of the country. Too many Neanderthals have been emboldened by Trump, that's unfortunately a fact. You are right though with his failure to address immigration (not talking about the wall here).

"get the fu*ck out of here before we shot".

See, and that's another American character trait that people abroad really "love"... :)

And their answer, like mine, is: Hell, no!

Our white Neanderthals are following their distant ancestors and go the way of the dodo, so who will fill the void? Europeans are not coming anymore, which leaves us with Asians and Latin Americans. People you don't want.

Life / - Conservative Radio talk shows in Poland - [60]

Sean Hannity's conservative audience is mostly 25 - 35

The median age of FOX News viewers was 65 in 2018.

"...3.3 million households taking in Sean Hannity's show on a nightly basis in 2018..."
"Looking at in-depth demographics reports from Fox, you'll note that just 643,000 nightly Hannity viewers belonged to the 25-54 age group..."

Genealogy / Mongolian the Golden Horde - do Poles have Mongolian ancestry? [256]

One more time in history, we spilled our blood, protecting the superhuman race

You are talking BS again. The troops that fought at the Battle of Vienna were not exclusively Polish.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vienna

We the Poles, borne and raised in Poland, understanding of who and what we are, instinctively. Foreigners commenting on our DNA have got no clue.

Conveniently forgetting the Swedish, Scottish, Dutch, French, German, Austrian, Russian, ..., influence, of course...

Doug, if embedded videos are a problem due to possible copyright infringement, then every single image that was ever posted on this forum would also be problematic.

News / Polexit? Almost half of the Poles believe that Poland would be better off outside of the EU [548]

And since those universities occupy the top of the list of the best in the world they must be managed better than state-owned

Ivy League colleges and other top universities charge outrageous amounts for tuition alone. You have to ask yourself who can afford that kind of money. Scholarships help a little, but you also have to pay for living expenses, books, insurance ... you name it.

it's essentially a criminal enterprise (and the pharmaceutical industry is even worse)

I wouldn't call it criminal, but the system is set up to take advantage of both patients and doctors. The pharmaceuticals have a quasi monopoly here and are protected by laws that prohibit the import of drugs for personal use ( fda.gov/about-fda/fda-basics/it-legal-me-personally-import-drugs ). The doctors are threatened by law suits (litigation) and have to shell out enormous amounts of money to buy coverage. Health insurers charge a fortune, but often refuse to cover certain medications and procedures. If you want the best treatment, you'll have to pay out of pocket. If you're good with something generic, your insurance might pay.

Praise libertarianism? Don't think so.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

if there were a flooding because of the rising sea levels it would be in all news

There is flooding and it was (and is) in the news plenty of times. Just google it. Parts of the American Gulf Coast, islands in the Pacific, low-lying coastal areas in Bangladesh and elsewhere - they are all affected already by flooding, erosion and saltwater intrusion.

Genealogy / Ancestors from Galicia - does this mean you are Polish? [18]

How do you know that she emigrated after WW1? According to Bernie she came from Austrian Galicia, so the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. She was a citizen of that country, even though she might have had Polish ethnicity.

"Austrian-Poland"

Legally, that's still Austria and not Poland. You have to distinguish between nationality and ethnicity - something that US immigration officers before WW1 didn't do occasionally.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2874]

Home burglary rates by country:

How about gun related deaths instead?

The support for pro gun legislation in Poland and all other European nations is DOA. They only have to watch what's going on in the USA with our mass shootings and other gun related crimes to make them run for the hills. You guys think it's a positive sign that we have the largest prison population in the world? Europeans would be stupid to make the same mistakes that America made.

Genealogy / Ancestors from Galicia - does this mean you are Polish? [18]

De facto autonomous or not, Galicia was still only crownland and it's people were considered citizens of Austria-Hungary when they immigrated to the USA. "Cisleithania" was an unofficial denotion. These crownlands were not states, but provinces in the modern sense. Had to read up on it though since I've never heard that term before. So thanks for pointing it out.

News / Modern F-35 bought by Poland. Good decision? [288]

our two aircraft carriers

Have they finally found a few crop dusters to put on those ships or are the British aircraft carriers still without any aircraft? Also, have they plugged the leak on the HMS Queen Elizabeth already? LOL! What I'm saying is, that both the British and German militaries are in an abysmal state. Not necessarily a bad thing though, because ... who in his right mind would start a war in Europe nowadays? The U.K. won't, Russia won't, Germany won't, and Serbia won't either...
