News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

Chump change

Germany imported $10 billion worth of Russian gas in 2017 for its own consumption.

bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-25/germany-s-10-billion-gas-bill-shows-perks-of-close-russia-ties

Out of Germany but what percentage want to dissolve NATO ?

No idea. Looking at the popular vote in the last election (Social Democrats, Greens and ex Commies), I would guess around 30 to 40%.

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

No, but there was a poll that was published a few months ago. 42% of Germans want the US troops out. Look it up yourself.

is used to build a war machine

The US imports from Russia in 2017 were $17,021.4 million. Also for building the Russian war machine?

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

The United States pumps Billions into the German economy every year just from the U.S. military bases located in Germany

Leave. Close the bases down. The German population (approx. 42%) will be more than happy, I guarantee you. Just like the Japanese on Okinawa. What you always seem to forget is that a large percentage of American troops in Germany are not exclusively NATO, but support for operations in the Middle East and beyond. We chose to maintain these bases to project global power. Don't want that anymore? Good, let's save a few hundred billion dollars worldwide.

Germany gets their gas from Russia at a cheaper rate then the rest of the E.U. does.

Because they pay for the infrastructure? In the end, Russian gas will still be much cheaper for the Europeans than the American one.

UK, Ireland / Why are Polish people, especially women, so disrespectful toward the English? [442]

you mean the soldiers who freed the world from Nazi

The ones who really defeated the Nazis were the Soviets. That the Americans and Brits were the ones who liberated Europe is a severe case of "history is written by the victors".

US G.I's were amongst the least offenders when it came to war crimes

That is true. I think I've read somewhere that the French were particularly bad when it came to the treatment of German POWs.

Off-Topic / Social Media - who uses Facebook or similar? [45]

Why aren't they banning left wing nutjobs?

Because Zuckerberg is one and they probably consider left wingers not as dangerous as the folks on the right? As CMS said, it's a private business and they can do what they want - as we've recently learned from the refusal of that bakery to sell a wedding cake to a gay couple.

Genealogy / Obtaining Original Poznan Parish Records, Greater Poland archives? [22]

if there were 2 sons, they can't both have married the same woman, Michalina

You're right, I overlooked that part. Your assumption that

Ignatius and Marianna appear to be the names of his deceased wife's parents:

is correct. Sorry for the confusion.

Genealogy / Obtaining Original Poznan Parish Records, Greater Poland archives? [22]

That's difficult. I would tend to believe the civil registration records because they were much more thorough than the entries in church books. Have you tried to find siblings of Michael Rutkowski? You could check their birth records for the name of the parents.

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

I asked is there a way to do a DNA test and can Polish genes be differentiated from say Slovak ones?

No, not on a country level. Wouldn't make sense anyway because borders have shifted far too often in Europe over the centuries.

News / Poles march against Mandatory poisoning by vaccines [202]

Then what's the point of vaxxing for diseases that very few peiple die from like measles, tetanus, diphtheria, etc?

I explained that two times already. Even though vaccines are not 100% effective, they always either significantly lower the risk to contract a disease or make the infection less severe (like in flu shots). Measles and meningitis for example are extremely dangerous for kids and can disable them for life. You don't have to die from a disease to make it dangerous.

I've never got a vax against meningitis, tetanus or tb yet have been around people who had them or was at risk of catching it

That's just lucky. Simple statistics. At some point it turns against you, and then?

we have plenty of desert.

I know, I was born in Oz... ;)

The chief crackpot from the usa was banned recently from visiting

Betsy was banned from visiting Oz? Really? Ha ha ha.

...will change their mind once they have a child.

Not in the U.S., unfortunately. These crazies are growing in numbers. But then ... so is the number of people who believe that the Earth is 5000 years old and evolution is a hoax.

Again, if their vaccinated then they shouldn't have any concern for people who aren't.

Again: no vaccine protects 100%. There's always a chance to contract a disease, but the chance is much smaller for vaccinated people than for the unvaccinated crowd. Every anti-vaxxer needlessly increases the risk for society.

But what if someone is coming from Pakistan on holiday ?

Then the anti-vaccination folks are obviously much more at risk to get exposed to a potentially deadly disease than the people who are vaccinated. The risk of international travel.

So we are back to your freedoms trump my freedoms.

You are not free to deliberately put other people at risk. The freedom and health of the vast majority of Americans who are pro vaccination (>80%) are far more important than the questionable views of some troglodytes who think that returning to the Middle Ages is a good idea which is "keeping the gubermint out of their lives". If you want to kill yourself by contagious disease, then by all means go for it, but please leave the sane people in this country out of your bizarre life choices.

News / Poles march against Mandatory poisoning by vaccines [202]

So would mandatory vaccinations extend to forcing it, probably with violence, onto Amish or others with genuine religious objections ?

I said it before: no vaccination ... no day care, no kindergarten, no school, no college. You do home schooling, since your religious objections are so genuine.

Would you prevent unvaccinated children e.g. from Pakistan, Nigeria or Iraq entering the country?

Medical exams and vaccinations are already mandatory for new permanent residents/ immigrants.

Would you prevent children below the vaccination age from travelling to other countries where vaccination is not in force?

Would you take your children to Africa without vaccination? That's common sense.

What risk could they possibly be to the pro-vaxxer's who have had their vaccination

That was already explained. Read the thread.

have no other agenda then to destroy other peoples freedoms

Destroy your "freedom" to spread a contagious disease and endanger other people? What are you guys? Neanderthals? If you are really against vaccinations, then hide in an effing cave and don't come out until the last one of you has been wiped out by measles or tuberculosis. Or stay in your backward communities until evolution has taken care of you. Oh wait, you don't believe in that either.

scratch a liberal leftie too hard and you will find a raging fascist underneath

You don't even have to scratch some of our conservatives here to see the brown color shining through...

Those 17 or so cases of polio

You really need to read up on polio epidemics in the 1950s and how the victims ended up in iron lungs paralized from head to toe. Polio has almost been eradicated in the west, and the reason for that success is the vaccine. There no use debating simple facts, Adrian.

npr.org/sections/health-shots/2012/10/16/162670836/wiping-out-polio-how-the-u-s-snuffed-out-a-killer

flu shot

That's a totally different beast because the virus strains change every year and it's a gamble whether the vaccine produced targets the virulent strain of the saison or not.

Then what's the point of getting a vaccine

A vaccination lowers the risk to contract a disease significantly. Think tetanus.

Well good thing it doesn't work that way

Oh, it does - unless you pull the laughable "faith" or "philosophical" card.

You claim to be pro freedom and against authoritarianism

So you want the freedom to kill other people's kids?

News / Poles march against Mandatory poisoning by vaccines [202]

very good point

No, it isn't. It's a cheap excuse. See below.

Well if vaccines are as effective as you and others claim then it won't matter if me or my kids get measles or whatever, right?

No vaccine is 100% effective. So if you send your meningitis stricken kids to school, you automatically endanger all the other children. If just one of them catches the disease and dies, I would consider YOU to be responsible. The grieving parents should be allowed to sue your ass off and strip you of any assets you own.

Just don't send them to the public schools

Not only public, but also private and charter. No vaccination, you home school. Simples.

You can get waivers in the U.S

Yeah, I know. It's against my faith to protect my child from contagious diseases. The "Let the other parents vaccinate their kids, then mine is okay" philosophical excuse. Selfish nut jobs. Reminds me of the Jehova's Witnesses who refuse blood transfusions or the crazy Followers of Christ in Oregon who prefer ointments and prayers over saving their children. Kill yourself if you have to, but leave sane people out of this.

News / Poland's economics and education against the background of the world [27]

Oh it absolutely is..go to any half decent college and a huge chunk of the students are wealthy Asians esp from China

Foreign students are NOT responsible for increasing tuition costs. The real reasons are student loans and the fact that high tuition costs enables colleges to recruit the exact type of students they want. There's a ton of literature about this out there, if you're interested.
