News / Poles are able to forgive their enemies - how noble. [68]

I would say vast majority of Poles don't really give a damn about it.

I always found it strange how Poles take to their leaders. I get the picture that as a General this guy was honoured ect among Poles. Where as put a PM who most Poles hated and made fun of regularly in charge and when he goes head first into a fir tree there is a national uproar against the Russians, even though he brought it on himself. Then bury him in the Wawel...

(by the way, Poles - why is it General Jaruzelski and not President Jaruzelski? Is it just because he's better known as the General and his Presidency was brief?

From what I know, and not to be taken seriously is that Poles tried to discredit him as much as possible. They loved the General but couldnt stand the president.

Cien is on Sw Jana.

Aye and that's about it. Just that and a fake Irish bar.

All around the rynek was pretty rank.

And you're comparing it to???

Sw Jana were hyped up but were sh*t

There isn't a night club on that street...?

Floriańska

You obviously just went to the touristy places, try futher afield next time ;)

What's the age range for members/guests at Cien ?

No members, just guests. Last time I went was on my friends leaving party. Drinks range like, think it was a bit over the top, something around 12z a beer.

Work / The demand for English language learning in Poland is at an all time low [41]

Look how much former State teachers are now running small language schools

Those same teachers who spend hours before lessons looking up words in a dictionary.

Problem is that the market is saturated with just about anyone who claims to be able to "speak English". In Krk you can find lots of Chileans, Spanish and Italians teaching English and yet put them to the test they will fall apart. It will be the students who will have the final say and vote with their feet (and their money).

Cien one night for no other reason than "members only".

Yeah from time to time they have parties for guests only. But rarely so you shouldn't any bother. To be honest for the 6 years I lived in the Krak I never once went to Cien (maybe once when I think about it). It was too snobby for me, girls out with their daddies credit cards ect. Easiest place in the world to pull though. Rdza and Błędne Koło were my kinda places, you can wubu dubu to that list as well.

UK, Ireland / 50 babies a day born to Polish mothers in UK [81]

You might bless us with a Kaczynski but we won't be so stupid to vote one into power...

...then again I'd love to have the chance to fly some of our former leaders into a Russian forest.

Love / Do Polish men make good husbands? [106]

I've never seen ANY woman out in the yard with a lawnmower, actually I had my balls busted by my miss us the other day for mere suggesting that she could mow her own lawn after she hinted that I could do it!

Law / Organisations that deal with domestic abuse within families in Krakow? [10]

She is in a flat belongs to a friend of mine. Her mum turned a blind eye, her dad is a rocker pumped up skin head. She would have asked for help earlier but she was scarred about her mum and little sister who she claims her dad doesnt touch. I cant mind what age folk leave school in Poland or i might have offered her a job in Scotland for a break.

but the cops should be the first to be informed.

Cops were informed, father told them she fell. Would have been some fall to leave those kinda marks on the face but nothing on the hands. I remember her father slightly from my teaching days in Nowa Huta, bit of a drunk but then again so are quite a few and it doesnt make them lash out.

Law / Organisations that deal with domestic abuse within families in Krakow? [10]

Friend in need.

Unfortunately I no longer live in Krakow so I'm not in a position to help.
But today I got a phone call from one of my ex students who has kept in contact with me over the years as I've helped her with her studies ect.

The lass herself is only 18 and today informed me that she had been beaten up by her father. After skyping her it looks most likely she has a broken nose and maybe a fractured cheekbone. If I was in Krakow I'd take her out of that environment and put her somewhere away from her family, unfortunately im not in Krakow.

Question is are there any centres or organisations that deal with domestic abuse within families in Krk?

Work / Salary for Teaching EFL in Krakow [120]

That would require some sort of cooperation between teachers. Not gonna happen.

Exactly, there is always gonna be a new crop of likely teachers from whatever country that will work for peanuts just for a job in Krk.

Work / Salary for Teaching EFL in Krakow [120]

Seems like wheaton is a man with the exact same opinions and experiences as me, before I left the teaching game in Krk. For me charging the rates I did for 60min private lessons it took a long time, many years even and many stubbed toes trying to get through certain doors. But people charging 20pln per lesson never really bothered me. In that game you get what you pay for ;)

Food / Classic Polish Cooking (book) [9]

What would you consider it to be?

A strange mix of different stuff. Not saying it's not good but you wont hear too many Polish grannies giving you these recipes.

Study / School of Polish for Foreigners at the University of Lodz [43]

No sense whatsoever in studying in a private school in Lodz - the university does a great job there.

Good for them, nothing wrong with competition.

Again - the University offers all this and more.

Again, Delph having to be the negative I know everything about anything guy ;)
