News / Are Polish People Being Discriminated Against? Problems getting a US visa. [258]

Getting a Visa to the US is very difficult.! It took 10 years for my father-in law to get a Visa. Reason: He was a recent widow, relatively young early 50's and they didn't think he would return? On his last visit, he was detained for two hours. The US couldn't or wouldn't believe he came to visit his family? It was extremely stressful. Good luck getting one if your young: same reason-may not return. Discrimination= VISA. It's a very subjective process.

Life / Polish plantlife and similar flora where you live. [81]

I would love to see some pictures of other PF gardens and in Poland. So don't tease- do take a few pictures. When my father in-law came to visit in the US, two summer's in a row, he really loved to garden. He took back to Poland several seed packs of perrenials and vegetables to plant. I will see how his garden is going?

Yes, Wildrover do give us a glimpse of your little forest and post it on Aphrodisiac's picture contest as well. To all gardener's: I've found that the love of nature and experimentation is the best guide. Surround yourself with what you love. If it doesn't work; try another area. Typically, what grows best, is already established. I have a 1910 home with no landscaping... except, one lilac tree. My guide is what I like and experiment. My other home, I'm not going to develop.. It looks like a park and has a beautiful view of water and mountains. Despite, living in the city, I live in the last place to have space. So, enjoy your reprieve and space...

History / Communism fell 20 years ago, Poland led the fight since WW2 [339]

Specially for you, the next part of Polish anti-communist defiance.

sadieann:

Thank you, Pawian for sharing the Polish Anti-Communist Defiance. This is extremely relevant. Let us not forget how hard it is to live under Communism. Great overview. It's unfathomable this only happened two decades ago. My husband, lived in this repressive Poland. Tanks at corners, curfews, secretly listening to news, getting rations before school, grass being painted green when dignitaries were coming, no freedom of speech. A great service and time was generated for this forum. Many Thanks!

Good! To me it sounds ignorant as well.. That your not literate enough to come up with something else to fill in the blanks. See, that explains it; I thought the same when I heard it.

Love / Polish Pet Names For Girls. [156]

My Polish husband refers to our daughter as "moya myszka," and in english my pet name is baby or sunshine. Interesting, that he doesn't have a polish nick name for me? He believes that this is the most endearing. I'm curious- he seems to and I've seen his family use his name in different ways and end his name with (tius), women's names seem to end in "ao". My name is unique and it doesn't translate in Polish. This is also, interesting because in US, your name is your name-no translation. For name day-my children have requested a polish calendar which translates their name. I like the fact, that this website shows this at top of page. It was funny last night my son got a new hat (it looks like a hunting, long straps around ears, from his dad) and my husband was calling him Andruszka. So, I have no polish pet name and my name doesn't translate in Polish? Whatever, one calls you close to you is special.
