News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

Seanus wrote: "If crosses can be put in classrooms and also at the side of the roads for road casualties, they can DEFINITELY be put in a strategic place for an ex-President of the country. There are plenty of other crosses for churches. What, St Anne's has somehow run short? ;) ;)

Agreed.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

The taste of those actions against cross are signed with a bitterness IMO.
Somebody called this action "żenua". Somebody called it a shame for a christianity and Christians.
In fact it is a matter of a taste.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

Seanus wrote: Lech was the figurehead of Poland and you can't deny that. The cross is about him and Tusk/Kommie know this all too well.

Let's make from "the war about cross" (is it really a "war" BTW) a tool for a political dispute?
Sure...

It becomes a tool for a secular/not secular debate about a sense of Church/ cross/democracy etc. these days. It is also a question about what does it mean to respect point of view of others

Because most of people who stand for this cross don't respect it.

Life / Poland and Shakespeare [23]

Feste

2. What did you think of his (Shakespeares work?)

I thought at first it was extraordinary, not for students from "szkoła średnia".

I liked Mackbeth but an interpretation for me seemed to be too difficult then.
It was like touching an unbelievable, misterious story which forces imagination to act a role in a play that started to exist somewhere inside people's heads.

I remember moments form lessons of Polish language when Macbeth was readed (not played) and was trying to be interpreted by us.
I felt like a viewer of secret play that engaged interior senses. I remember a plot a bit, personas of a tragedy, scary bloody sceneries... although it was weird because the main difficult thing about it was to find words to name what were we thinking or felt about it.

It was a great adventure, but unfinished, that leaved a feeling of being in almost perfect world of imagination that had to involve everybody in my class.

A strange but exciting experience.

Language / What do you like in Polish language? [70]

I like Polish language but I am in love with English now and I can't get over it.
I am addicted to English. I've just realised it now. Funny.
What do I like in Polish language?
Generally?
Simplicity.
;)

English makes me to think too much what is engaging but tiring actually.

Life / Polish authors, books & literature. [94]

I liked "Jealousy and medicine'" ("Zazdrość i medycyna") by Michał Choromański a lot.
Oh, and "Wspólny pokój" ("Joint room?" :) by Zbigniew Uniłowski.
Anybody remembers a name of that English guy who was writing funny stories about a vet?

Life / Polish people and Politeness [84]

An example of Polish good manners:
A family meal:
I was invited on a dinner to meet my friend's parents.
--------
There was a lot of food on a table + ... mushrooms.
I had already had potatoes and a meatball on my plate + some vegetables.
- You are so thin - I heard at first.
I wanted to take a few of those mushrooms from the table to taste them.
I heard from my friend's mother.
"Ohhh, these are mushrooms just for Piotr." She was berserk, almost furious.
- Oh..? - I asked. I felt like an idiot who didn't deserve for mushrooms.
I said I just wanted to taste them.
But I felt I had to give those three small pieces of mushrooms back.
My friend's mother was angry. Piotr even hasn't noticed that mushrooms went to the bowl again from my plate.
At second time at my friend's place I heard from his mother:
- Oh, if you lived here I would give you more food to make you fatter.
Piotr in the meantime has eaten a soup, a dinner, took a carrot salad that was put in a small bowl in front of my plate.

- You eat like a bird. You have to eat more - said his mother to me.
Piotr looked at me.
Then he burped.
It was my last visit there.
I do like Poles.
Some of them.

Po polsku / Pomnik ku czci bolszewików? [26]

A artysta to pojęcie względne.

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

Oh, d*** + s****: it's one of first threads that is quite unreadable for me.
I don't know but to have fun is only one of possible options. The other - maybe to smoke? To run naked could be a good idea too.

It depends on the area you will be on.

Life / Are Poles typically nasty people? [42]

Allison

The more time I spend in here, the more I value Seanus's :" some are, some aren't".
Simple and obvious.

Try to be silly - they will call you 17 and stupid.
Be smart and Polish - few British girls will talk with you if any.
Try to say sth wise- they will answer sth like "weird stuff".

It' a real society, not it's mirror.

Somebody will flirt with you, sb will ask you for a date, sb will want to discuss, somebody will call things you say trollish or b****, somebody will say, you "generalise", sb will envy you although he/she knows nothing about you, sb will not start to talk to you just because your nickname does not sound good for him/her.

Being in here you are a part of of society, you just have to accept and play with their rules.
If you say to them that they are nasty or neutral it will mean for them that you see them this way. You give a clear comunicate to them then.

Say them: you are great, I like you, I like to laugh...
They will accept you... or hate you.
:)
In other cases you can become an outsider.
Speak you mind - that is all what I wanted to say actually.

Love / ARE POLISH WOMEN CATTY...? [75]

I've heard recently Krystyna Kofta, a great Polish felietonist who said that Polish women are the wickest on the world.
There is sth in the statement, but I still naively believe that it's not true.
I was hurt by many of my female friends. Till today I don't trust very easily people and I am very cautious when I meet new ones.

In fact, when I am on the top, I have friends, when I am not, I don't have them, they seem to disappear then. People live their lives and very often use other (who for some reasons are on a weaker position) for their personal advantages.

I hate it but I still try to believe in friendship, although it's not easy for me.

Love / How to make a guy (Polish or other) happy? [62]

A friend I met while I was studying spent almost 3 years with her boyfriend.

The key for her was to give him freedom
They didn't control eachother. He spent his time the way he wanted. So was she.
My friend even didn't notice when they became almost strangers for each other.
It's too long story to describe but as a result, he started to have had his own life (she had no idea about his new companionship), lied, flirted with many girls, was visiting his girlfriends parents, going for weekends with new friends.

As a student of psychology that girl knew that if man feels free he will always come back to her. He did in fact.
Breaking up wasn't nice for my friend. She heard something like :"Well, I am not sure if you will not want to be with me again", "you aren't resposible, you don't know what you want, you don't want to grow up or similar b**** like "you wanted to be on a lonely island and I even wanted to be with you there".

My question is: where are borders of freedom in relationship?

Love / How to make a guy (Polish or other) happy? [62]

pgtx
everybody needs space, but if you have it too much, why to be in a relationship? i

Yuo don't catch what I mean.

Freedom, everybody needs it is isn't it?

Gosh, there are 1000 answers on your question.

Why people don't respect rules?

She said to him sth like I like you, we feel great with each other, we are together because it's our free choice, because we attract each other, and so on. But, first of all, 1) we are free and 2). we have our common space.

Why did he dissapoint her?

There were common space and free space.

Love / How to make a guy (Polish or other) happy? [62]

If you don't hold on to love it will fly away. But if you squeeze it to hard it will die.

All I can say is: Proverbs are wisdom of a nation.

It means that a nation is wise among many reasons also thanksfully to its proverbs.
Do you expect from me an interpretation of this one?

Cool, I like poetry, also W. Blake.

Mike22
and i think it's stupid to spend 3 years of your life with somebody you meet rarely and you are like a stranger with

I think it's rather a part of growing up which has to make you to feel like stupid.
Everything was ok, after some time things started to spoil.
It is rather psychological question if anybody wishes to answer would be great.

Where are borders of freedom in relationships as you probobly noticed.

If you don't set boundaries and don't make it clear it's an exclusive relationship, don't expect him to come back to you everynight like a loyal puppy

Oh, so do guys expect setting boundaries to be happy in relationships?
The end for today for me. Thanks for all answers.

Language / Question about podoba sie [23]

I had a problem when I heard from my friend "I like you very much."
Did it mean:
1). He was a "victim" of a love from "first sight".
2). He liked me.
3). He found me attractive.
4). Other options ......
Till today I don't have a clue what did it mean.

Travel / My (short) Poland experiences - bad luck? [142]

You people sucks.
What (the hell) do you expect seeing Poland after two horror events like aircrash (when the most important poeple from the government died) and flood?

You become as deppressive as Polish reality or do you maybe want to challenge more optimistic people to change your attitude?!
If so, here you are: I love my country and I think it's great although people are sometimes or often too melancholic.
Gossiping is flourishing on PF, congrats, foreigners. So far, so good.

Have you heard the latest joke?
What do foreigners like to do in Poland?
- To gossip, to complain and to criticise.

Life / Strange attitude to shop naming in Poland? [5]

Yes, you are right. I haven't noticed it before.
Some shops in here don't attract people to come in with a special name or unusual exhibitions. Actually, they scare me away, because wanting to buy (for example) one thing I feel guilty that I bought just it.

That is why I don't like shopping very much.
