News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2870]

didn't stop the US from losing that war

the US didn't lose that war - it just became largely unpopular at home and the US just (gradually) withdrew their personnel (this is as much a I have gathered from various media throughout the years)

also the North Vietnamese/Viet Kong casualties of the war were hmm... much higher than those American

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2820]

Your own death doesn't happen often but we make plans for it.

I can assure you that things you described don't happen in Poland (like jon said - I haven't heard of such incidents in Poland, either - unless we are talking about some war scenario -tfu tfu) - so yeah your comparison does not really make sense here in Poland

ok. after some thought: there used to be such things in Poland back in the 90's (abductions, gunpoint robberies) and early 2000's - however I haven't heard of any such occurence in the last 10-15 years (unless it was some gang violence but even gang violence is much lower than 15-20 years ago)

UK, Ireland / "Strange " English language.. [103]

that means "do you want me to close the window?"

this is as much as I figured - didn't know about it not sounding very natural(?)

Pompous ass Brits go:

I see - still, their usage is etymological - shall meant in the past what should mostly means now as illustrated by contemporary Danish (don't know about Swedish and Norwegian) "Skal jeg gaa til skolen" (Should I go to school)

Anyone who says "shall"

I have seen sentences like "Shall I close the widnow?" in English textbooks - is it not how English native speakers talk now?

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2870]

Yes, they were, but also our Chinese allies helped us.

oh, interesting, tell me more - I would like to see photos of those downed bombers and the nuclear bombs they carried - some testimonies by the surviving crew would help, too - unless of course it is all classified like so many things in Russia

We did most of the heavy lifting fighting their army,

yeah, you did the most of heavy lifting when the war with Japan was almost over (when was Manchuria offensive? August of 1945?)

full of zombie rules that no one follows....

America is the only country in world history to use atomic bombs against people.

yeah this whimisical America and their stubborn desire to save as many lives of its citizens as possible (and in the process saving millions of lives of the Japanese)

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2870]

3. Fire Putin.
4. Conduct democratic, fair elections

Paulina points 3 and 4 are mutually exclusive at the moment - Putin would win if the elections were held today - the presidential elections in Russia were actually held like half a year ago - it is true that they were not quite fair and all (the majority of Russians also support the war in Ukraine - afaik Russian television even stopped calling it Special Military Operation)

points 3 and 4 are mutually exclusive unless your point 5 goes before them

unlike americans, russians will not throw nuclear bombs just on their whim

hmm if Americans drop nuclear bombs on a whim, why are we all still on this planet - or maybe it is that Americans have much more friendly whims than you would like us to believe

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2870]

we all know that taking back Kresy is polish national fixation... do not deceive yourselves.

yeah, we all know that Russians think that way (Edit: and that, for example, Belarusian regime is using such a claim as a scare to control their people) - feel free to find a source in English to back it up - or any official Polish document that says so

Poles should not think that they can take western piece of former country Ukraine for themselves.

please, link me to a source (other than Russian) in English that says that Poland claims any Ukrainian territory

If the French send their solders, we will kill them all

you probably don't understand the concept of a proxy war - I will give you an example of a Soviet proxy war so you can possibly grasp it: Vietnam war

Life / Poland and the neighboring Baltic States [5]

And does Poland trade much in the Baltic block in general?

I don't know about the volume of the trade - however many products made in Poland have descriptions in all languages of the Baltic states on the packaging if this is any indicator

Life / Poland and the neighboring Baltic States [5]

interact much with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Lithuania is probably the most visited of all these and mostly Vilnius (Wilno in Polish) - one thing: proximity; secondly: Polish heritage - besides Vilnius, Lithuania is fields, forests, lakes and the Baltic - we have all of these in Poland

for Latvia and Estonia the main attraction for Poles would also probably be their respective capitals (the language barrier in the capitals is the least I would presume because more people speak English there - the national languages between the countries are very different - even Latvian and Lithuanian which are related are not quite mutually intelligible)

I don't personally know anyone who's been in these places, though - but I live a secluded life on the other end of Poland (though I have seen videos on youtube made by Polish travellers to Vilnius a couple of years back)

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2870]

Ukraine would be our strongest ally in this plan.

not really - Ukraine desperately wants to join the EU - and we have confilicting interests with them (at least in the agricultural sector) as shown by the last couple of years (and indeed right now)
