News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 16 [749]

and many of those who had been part of it remained in their positions after Franco took power

it was up to Franco to support capitalism and to allow capitalists and those who favoured capitalism to retain their positions

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 16 [749]

Left hates Israel and at least totally acts extremely anti-semitic in our western countries.

if you can't see that Israel is currently pursuing their own Endlosung in Gaza, then I strongly advise you to take a better look

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [632]

Putin has nothing to lose as he's on the way out.

Putin has a lot of to lose - mainly his face/popularity among his hmm.. subjects - he needs to win this war i.e. to bring home territorial gains and other favourable outcomes (for examples Ukraine not being able to join NATO) - Zelensky's goals are the opposite and I doubt if he dreams of being Ukraine's president for life (like Putin does in Russia)

Life / Polish patriotic music! [40]

aaaah...."Krusak" = Crusader.....yes, that sounds like it!

Krzyżak is from the Polish word for Cross (which is krzyż) - they were called so because they wore white clothes (tunics?) with a black cross on their chests

and no krzyżak doesne't mean crusader knight - crusader knight is called krzyżowiec in Poland

Language / Dog Commands in Polish [49]

Or do they keep it just to the basic form for ease of comprehension?
for some time now I try to speak to my dog in basic forms but it is in no way the norm among Polish dog owners - the thing it is often the case that inflected forms of Polish words (at least nouns) are not that removed from the basic form so the dogs seem to figure out you talk about the same thing (it is especially true with the dog's name)

News / How will Polish-American relations change if Trump is elected president again? [528]

then this war... is already lost.

this is the testament to how Europe is willing and/or able to defend itself

Edit: to put things in perspective the European Commission (the government of the EU of sorts) refused to exclude Polish defence spending from the budget deficit which resulted in declaring Poland under the "procedure of excessive deficit"

Language / Dog Commands in Polish [49]

@Tlum: Thank you very kindly for your translations.

I think these translations are useless for English speakers who don't know the rules of Polish pronunciation

Life / Polish Nursery Rhymes [253]

I understand it is completely off-topic, now - but I honestly thought fava beans is some American borrowing from some Latin American speech - and from what you say I gather it's a British word

aka fava bean or broad bean...

yes, indeed - I don't think it has ever been actually called faba bean in English - think it's always fava bean - my mistake

Life / Polish Nursery Rhymes [253]

"Na zielony ( Green)" then the next word is the one I cannot recall, but it sounded like "wensa" or "wansa

that's "na zielonej łące" most probably (Polish ł is the same sound as English w)

Life / Polish Nursery Rhymes [253]

Bobek, groshek, vitchka, sneetchka, Okem starkey Cookedy Coo.

I don't know the rhyme either - but bobek is faba beans (diminutive of bób), groszek is pea(s) (diminutive of groch), wyczka (diminutive of wyka) is vetch - no idea what sneetchka is - I have no idea what "Okem starkey" is supposed to mean either (Okem may be o kim (about whom) or okiem) - the Cookedy coo part is spelled kukuryku in Polish

News / Should Poland pay for gas in rubles? [169]

Good news, however the total should be zero.

afaik Germany happily imports crude oil from Russia (officially from Kazachstan) to their big Schwedt refinery through the big "Friendship" pipeline that crosses Poland - Tusk agreed to not put any obstacles to this transfer (don't know about the previous government to be honest) early in his current time in the office

Polonia / Which country is better SPAIN or POLAND [113]

PiS's dogged determination to recreate the PRL (down to being sucked into the Russian 'sphere of influence').

where did you get that from, if I may ask? I especially mean the last bit

Not sure if it's going to benefit the parents and the society though.

it definitely won't (oh sorry, I stated the obvious - and well I stated what you actually implied)

News / European News and Poland Thread - part 4 [140]

I'd guess that right now they check all of them very well.

as far as I know Polish-Russian border (i.e. the border with Kaliningrad region) is practically closed now (edit: for personal travel at least)

The hundreds of thousands of East Germans will force the Scholz government to change course!

very good idea, Bobko - however I wouldn't expect Donald Tusk to enforce such drastic anti-German measures

News / European News and Poland Thread - part 4 [140]

Hope Poland chokes on these illegals.

the comment is pure ignorance and arrogance on the part of the German who commented - Poland doesn't just let immigrants from Belarus - they sometimes do manage to cross the border IN SPITE of the border wall and a lot personnel protecting the border - what is more German AUTHORITIES and legal circles not so long ago whined about Poland performing PUSHBACKS on those who illegally crossed the border with Belaraus (there is also the question of those illegal immigrants who manage to cross the EU border in Lithuania and Latvia and who travel through Poland (with the help of human traffickers) on their way to Germany)

and there is one other question - this whole issue of illegal immigration through Polish-Belarusian border hadn't start spontaneously - it was started by delibarate actions of the Belarusian (and probably also Russian) authorities hostile to Poland (they advertised flights to Belarus with a chance to get to the EU from there to people in third world countries - they also earn hard cash doing so, so in essence they are human traffickers)

in other words Novichok: before you believe Germans try asking Poles (otherwise you may believe it was Poland who provoked Germany to attack them in 1939 as many German believe even now)

Edit: you imagine Germany and the EU helped Poland build the wall on the Belarusian border? Think again

History / Destruction of Ukrainian churches in Poland in 1938 [289]

Our crimes weren`t crimes at all, they were the norm at the time

if you compare a "crime" of demolishing couple of tens Orthodox churches in Volhynia with slaughtering of over 100 thousands of unarmed defensless people then you are sort of sick
