What army? All your gov does is clutch to the things they know and know to keep Poland down economically and are not that keen on Poland getting a stronger military, so where is the German army that will protect Poland and maybe even the Baltic states? Not even in the making. Wake up and smell the coffee.
However, they could still make use of a Russian passport to stay compliant with all their local immigration requirements.
I doubt their change of status would help them that much. I can't speak for Germany but they would not have a place in Poland. It would be easier for them to give up a Ukrainian passport and apply for residence in Poland.
