Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

Complete BS, I hate to generalize but Mediterranean women (esp. Greek and Italian) are the most stuck up self centered women that think they're better than everyone. Polish girls are so much easier to get along with either as friends or accepting of a date and have much greater personalities.

Now I know each country has it's bad and good, but this is the overall analysis from the many women I have met in these areas. And by met, I don't mean in "bed", I mean in person or as friends or on a date/simple relationship.

& Before you call me biased I am Greek myself and half Polish.

You can come to our beaches in mediteranean sea and change your skin.

Yes you'll also get a good exercise running the beaches from the sex-deprived Italian and Greek men; lol

UK, Ireland / Nursing staff from Eastern Europe about to 'flood' into UK ? [45]

I most certainly hope not. The Polish reputation of an 'immigrant culture' isn't good in this aspect. The medical and healthcare fields of Poland have been indeed dropping according to W.H.O. statistics. It's obvious that the money is the key goal here, but the more the Polish medical sector slumps the less money there will be in the long-run, so it's like fighting fire with fire. I think there ought to be restrictions. The EU lifts these barriers as if people simply migrate to other regions for the sake of new location, but as we see now the mass disporportion of immigration amongst EU countries, it's more than that.

I would imagine British people would rather have medical staff who are comfortably fluent in English, and like to know the nurses are properly qualified, with checkable backgrounds.

This too, and this applied all over Europe. In Italy and Greece these forgings are worse than Poland. If there's too many damn nurses and unemployment is reaching highs in these fields, why make it easier and less secure to take these positions? The UK has effecient healthcare, such loop-holes could bring it down. I say make it harder and keep the overly-qualified individuals and throw out the rest for a more efficient system. These liberal ideals of all for all and none for none have never benefitted the medical system, only utilitarian ideals simply so and put. Whether it be in research and pharmaceuticals or simply nursing...

I say this as a pre-med student myself hoping to get into medical school. So I am in the boat with all these students hoping to become doctors, surgeons, nurses, researchers, etc. But I devote myself to greater good of the healthcare system and medical areas, not my own selfish needs to get the job, and get the money, and get all the "goods". You either are or you're not in the medical field, if not then **** off somewhere else as opposed to cheating the system and forging crap bringing the system down with you... atleast that's my philosophy.

Genealogy / Polish-Ukranian roots and genes [72]

The genetic marker for most people of slavic origin is the Haplotype r1a1.

A single haplotype doesn't necessarily mean that populations are the same. R1a1 is BARELY enough to categorize anyone as slavic. Here is a map of it:

Map

It's most common is Poland, and is just as common in Ukraine as it is in the Mediterranean....so no go. I can tell you that Greeks and Turks don't look like Ukrainians even though they practically have the same frequencies of R1a1.

While Polish people and Ukrainians do share genes these are mere general slavic genes. However they don't for example have any Tatar Haploids which are found in about 64% of the Polish population. Haplotypes are elementary genetics. It is rather several distinct haplogroups that characterize an ethnicity in particular...as opposed to a single one which can barely label a family of genepools such as "slavic".

How can Poles have more Tatar haploids than Ukrainians? Crimea is IN Ukraine!

Are you aware that Poland has practically shifted over west since it's original founding over one-thousand years ago, dragging the populous with?

Love / I fell in love (with a Polish schoolfriend of mine)... How to say I love her? [31]

When I went to Lublin last summer (a populous city) they had freshly picked apples with the skins etched to say "Kocham Cie" which is I love you in Polish, they also had ones in plain english for the American tourists :-p

Anyway, maybe you could try that....or just leave one on her desk and tease here...idk.

Some of you guys on here have problems. This innocent kid comes asking for such help and you tell her such things as taking a sledge hammer to the girls head? Oh brother @_@

Another idea I have is maybe you could write her a poem, or copy a famous one...Poles are known to be historically significant during the Romantic era....try this:

search.barnesandnoble.com/POLISH-LOVE-BOOK-v-1/Miroslaw-Lipinsk i/e/9780781802970/?itm=3&USRI=%22polish+love%22

Note how there's used one's for 1.99 please buy that one ^_^

History / Polish-Turkish alliance. Is it mistake, joke or real love? [35]

why not? maybe us and Turks would like to have a common border once again? :-)

What common border? They were trying to invade Poland and Austria....

Besides, no one's pissing off the Russians. Gazprom is buying most of Turkey's gas reserves as they are in practically all of the Balkans so they can have puppet dominance off of russian-gas dependent countries like Poland...

I think Crow needs to stop dreaming. All this Serbia, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria crap is tiring. Poland doesn't care about the Balkans...they barely care about their neighbors...what connection do they have with the far South? Maybe if they were an economic dominator like Russia but no, they are more or less independent other than maybe trade with main EU partners like Germany and France.

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

If this is true, then German can go screw itself. But these statistics can easily be smudged. As someone who has obvious Polish ethnicity I have many German friends and I speak the language and as I said they know my ethnicity. Truth is however, all of my German friends are new age/young. So I really don't know...

History / Polish-Turkish alliance. Is it mistake, joke or real love? [35]

lol I love all of Torq's fictitious groups of new European empires. He's now decided to add Turkey for the heck of it ...

Anyway, Poland can barely build alliances with it's neighbors, what deal does it have with Turkey? Turkey is one the way to modernizing it's economy which is why it's doing it's best right now to build alliances with it's neighboring countries and expand trade with them. Just like Poland should/is trying to do with Germany. As far as history goes, they were an enemy the Ottoman empire, and yes they did recognize partitions except for some due to problems with mainland Europe. But in some of those treaties where Poland's partitions were mentioned, the Ottoman empire did sign. The reason why they didn't recognize much in Europe is because they were indifferent to most of it and so hostile to them that they simply saw Europe as one especially with the Christianity in Europe at the time.

As for the Adam Mickiewicz museum, that's there, it's because he died there, the only reason he went to Turkey was to organize exiled Polish forces to be used in the war against Russia. He also met his good friend Armand Levy who was to ass Israeli Hussars to the factions...

What is Turkish role? Control of Balkan, together with Germany?

Germany and Turkey won't be getting along, trust me. Unless they somehow overpopulate the actual Germans there....lol.

As for controlling the Balkan, you should know that modern Turkey is much of a liberal democracy than it is anything else. Which is why it begs to differ from Arabs in the east. Turkey this year alone has signed peace-ties with Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Albania...

Love / Do Polish date Spanish people [49]

know how Spanish or Italian men treat foreign girls

Throw Greek men in there too. I've seen it happen in front of my own eyes with italians and greeks. I hate to generalize since I'm half Greek, but it is true that most of these men seem to have some sort of a childish 'superiority complex' over these women. It's disgusting...

Love / the strange polish girl who broke my heart [30]

later she behaved as nothing had happened

It's called a one-night stand. It happens everywhere in the world with girls of different ethnicity and has nothing do with the fact she's Polish. If you'd ask next time this would help, if she told you elsewise and didn't commit then I guess she's the problem. But still, ethnicity is irrelevant to this....

Love / Ideas For A Good Gift for my Polish girlfriend [16]

Buy her a dozen or two dozen of roses, and make sure one side is red and the other white (Polish flag) and present them to her with this poem of mine:

Living Classics

They do not so much revise their opinions
as, when after years they take a squint at each other’s eyes,
can feel ill at ease, and wonder
what have we got to offer?

And yet they are meant for each other.
A matching pair, perfect example which
imitates itself. Outside the two of them they had
no one.

Why yes, there were some occasional fellow creatures—
parents, sisters, brothers, wives, husbands, children.
But with this estrangement there was no threat of divorce,

even if someone stopped saying anything and
out of respect for big words chose
self-asphyxiation.

Write this poem on nice treated paper (like the ones they had in the old days) and the size of memo paper. Then roll it up and tie it nicely with a golden ribbon to the base of the flowers.

When presenting, smile big, and say: "Kocham Cię!"

You can thank me later... and just tell her that you wrote the poem (duh).

Life / Why are the Italians and Polski so much alike? [90]

uh uh thats Romania. Gypsies are like Mexicans.

Well that was dumb. Roma and Romanians are two completely different things. Romanians are Southern Slav's and purely caucasian. Are you going to say now that the Roman Empire was Gypsie? lol

Germans are rather cold and the Brits are often snobbish.

How generalizing do you get?

I often see quite a similarity between Polski families and Italian families. Why are they so much alike? They both seem passionate about culture, food, and often have tight knit families.

Well other than religion not many... Both exist in two different regions, look different (genetically), dress different, are set up differently in terms of economics and civics. And the culture and food is different. Truth is all European countries have passions for these things. As for similarities, when comparing Poles the first thing that comes to mind is Ukrainians, Belarussians, Lithuanians, Czechs, Slovaks...

well I heard that Italians call us Polish "the Italians of the North"

psssh yea right. Italian's can't even get along with their Southern counterparts and they call Poles Italian?

Life / Why are the Italians and Polski so much alike? [90]

Polish-Italian marriage? Rare.

Indeed, I am Greek-Polish and those are just as rare. However Greek-Italian and Irish aren't. I really like the idea of Polish being distinct and intrinsic to itself. Having traveled the world as you insisted indeed does help live countries and truly see them. I think people like Allison are devoid of such. If anything Allison, you should go a live in Poland for a while. It seems that you know little since your not Polish, but seeing as how you have such strong interest a visit would do you good.

As far as Navy-porting goes idk, you should def. study abroad. Warsaw University has many of those programs and you ought to look into it.

Nah I don't have money to do that (I'm poor) and my interest is more in Europe in general than just Poland but I really am interested in the iron curtain in particular I guess.

Yea I have studied Soviet history in general. Nice topic in books, but depressing to travel to. So I assumed you were Polish but I am wrong. I guess Europe is an overall nice place. If you want a cheap trip to see nice beauty go to Switzerland.

History / Polish-Turkish alliance. Is it mistake, joke or real love? [35]

Cześć!
This is my first post on the forum, although I'm a long time reader.
Yeah, my nickname is dedicated to the best beer in the world: BOSMAN :)

Wow you sure do know your history. May I ask if you are a student of history and what your favorite area is in the subject?

Yes, I have had much experience with Turks. You see I am half Greek and half Polish, so as you can imagine there is a lot of Turkish diasporia in Greece and having met many of the people along with relation to the culture. I believe the Ottoman Empire did great things for both Poland and Greece. It paid full respect to the Poles, which helping preserve Greek culture, religion, and intellectual works from the expansionist West seeking to influence and change all that.

History / Polish-Turkish alliance. Is it mistake, joke or real love? [35]

Let's say, history is my passion :)

Ah well so is mine! European and Asian history to be particular. ^_^

If you really like Polish history I insist you read the books God's Playground by Norman Daives, it's a two volume book set and covers the whole of Polish history from the ancient pagan slavs to modern day. It's considered one of the best works on Polish history. Since you're in Turkey it might not be available so I pasted the google book links below where you can see them:

Volume I:Origins to 1795

Volume II:1795 to Present

My grandparents born and raised in Greece. I am also very familiar with Greek culture and Greek history.

Ah wow, so are you Greek blooded or were they Turkish diapsoria? There are many Turkish inhabitants in Greece, especially among the islands.

Slurp, slurp. Are you a real Greek? Our forefathers spilled tons of their blood to get us free from the Turks. We did over 100 revolutions against their rule.

Yes I am a real greek....half as I said before.

Turks hadn't done anything to you. They ruled Balkans nearly 500 years but unlike other empires they let the people keep their language, keep their religion. There was peace, only peace in these lands. Just forget what you read in your propagandist history books, and learn real history. This is the Polish-Turkish topic, If you open another topic, or contact me in private we can discuss that issue.

Such is very true. All empires have shed blood. What makes you thing Greece would have been better off under the Napoleonic empire, the British Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire, or the Prussian Empire? I can tell you that Greek culture and language most likely would not be around or at minimal levels today. I can also tell you that Greece's Orthodox Christianity would have been long abolished for Roman Catholicism. The problem with the Balkans (including Turkey) can be propaganda nationalism, there is a lot of it flowing around and I think many Balkan problems can be solved if people indeed studied true history and culture and coexisted. Truth of the matter is the problems with the Balkans including the Ottoman empire are no where near compared to those having occurred throughout main-land Europe throughout the centuries. You name it: The Nazi's, the Stalinists, the Napoleonics (even though not so evil), the Crusaders, and what not.

Religion is something between you and god. And Turkey is the most tolerant country in the whole world about religion.

I concur, in these days people care too much about other peoples religious views. At least Turkey is open to religion (but not the most in the whole world since I don't think that can be measured). Unlike Turkey, countries like France and Great Britain are using their 'liberal' ideals to become a policing state amongst other people's religions almost like big brother. You can't wear turbans, religious symbols, etc etc. Killing freedom of speech and right to own acts and beliefs.

Life / What's the spiritual atmosphere like in Poland these days? [12]

Well Polish catholicism is still standing strong like it always has, maybe it's gotten more liberal. However I honestly don't see how the church scandal or other bad-doings the church has committed apply to Polish christianity which has been more or less singled out. I doubt you'll find buddhist temples or many buddhists in all. However I am sure you can find new-age spiritualists.
