Life / Beggers namely Kurwa boys in Poland [70]

check this thread: Begging in Poland (new scam)

I was talking about con guys with the "ticket" trick.. not about begging in general...

There are those that can irritate you but they are younger.

Yeah, I know what you mean, there are those younger bloked, they look like metalheads or punks. Usually collecting money for "cheap wine" they can be pretty intrusive..

Life / Beggers namely Kurwa boys in Poland [70]

,I have 4 euro and the ticket costs 5 euro

I was in London some time ago, at Victoria Coach station this guy approaches us and he says exactly that, he needs some money for the ticket because he is missing 2 pounds. I was pretty sceptic but my gf gave him the money and we moved along. We came back after something like 2 hours. He was still there, now asking some other couple for the same thing. I rushed in and told them that the guy is a con. He said he is now trying to get the money for his girlfriends ticket.. Afterwards I heard multiple times that it's a pretty often sight at that station - dodgy people conning others with the "ticket scenerio"..

My girlfriend was really frightened after what I've done, she though that this guy can come after us and stab me or something like that.. I guess you probably shouldn't do stupid things when you're on unfamiliar turf.

I've never seen such a situation in Poland. Most beggers you can stumble upon are usually gypsies or old drunkards.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

1. Some Poles will not work on a Sunday, not even mow the lawn. Because that's work.

Some will, some won't, just like any other nationality.

3. They like to push, like on a crowded bus or tramwaj. Even if there's no more room, they will still sqeeze in. Somehow. And then you smell their sweaty armpits.

You haven't seen Japanese subway, it recreates the idea of sqeezing in..

I agree that some people are not very trustful but on the other hand who isn't? Buying a car ain't a simple matter..

1) The chances taken at crossings.

Yeah, I agree, more and more accidents, more and more rounabouts on the way.. ( for example near Multikino in Zabrze ;) )

I dunno why so many people put pressure on how polish people are slagging others behinds their backs.. I've met many British and Swedish people and all of them sometimes tended to put a snide remark here and there about somebody "who was not in the room".. remark or a whole story about which traits of that person they hate and for what reasons. I say these are all international syncrasies and poles are not standing out in any special way..

. When a Polish man talks to another woman, he eyes her up also. But for other reasons.

What's wrong with eyeing girls?

who's wątroba is hurting today, etc.

You've met too many drunkards ; )

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

I think highly educated is wrong a word here (though some are actually highly educated) - but a couple of years ago master's degree (magisterium) was quite an achievement in Poland and many people who went to England had these

You are speaking here about students or graduates who came to UK for the summer or for half a year to gather some money for vacation or first flat. Not about those loads of polish chavs that have absoultely no qualification and education. And that's prolly most of them.

so you obviously work somewhere grim.

Why do you assume that? What does my place of work have to do with who I know from my childhood or ground school and secondary school? You obviously should have learnt some good manners.

And it's a simple fact that a huge percent of people who had gone to uk did it just for the sake of easy money - without any qualification or education required. Most of them would have stayed in Poland if they knew how to manage themselves.

shakunka

That doesn't sound like any Polish swear word.. szklanka - means a glass and it sounds kind of similarly or
skakanka - skipping rope..

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [267]

I dunno, I got attacked in Gliwice twice, and my mate like 3 times. It depends what time and where you go. I don't recommend pottering around the park near old stadium ( near Politechnika ) after 23:00. Beside you said that being at the city square might get you in trouble ( especially when there's some kind of a techno night in Gwarek )...

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [267]

Although it ineed is a disgrace it could have happaned to anyone. I heard few stories about polish couples that got beaten during day time in a city centre. Still those thugs have probably increased awarness on people that stick out more from the crowd..

I hope you guys gonna be alright..

Love / Are all Polish men Psychos? [111]

He says he has 'problems in his life'

He might be telling the truth he might be not. My friend was lieing to his girlfriend in the same way because he really had "life problems" - his dad was addicted to benzodiazepines. Another friend of mine was seeing other girls while being in a stable relationship. You never know. It may be worth being straightforward and asking.

Life / Why are so many Polish People rude on the internet? [96]

I'd say it's because internet is much younger in Poland therefore most of its users are 14 year old boys going through puberty. In every country these boys make probably something like 70% of useless swearing on the internet..

Language / Translation request: words like the / and / or / left / right / this, etc... [19]

I'm afraid most of these word would need something more than just a simple translation. I'm pretty lazy so I'm just gonna translate those straightforward ones : p

left = lewo
right = prawo
up = góra
down = dół
in = w
next to = obok
between = między / pomiędzy
among = między : p

all = wszystko / wszyscy
more = więcej
less = mniej

Most of these words mean something different when they are in a different context..
