News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

Don't know. According to this web site, China has about 240 nukes. You only need a tiny fraction of them - say 5 in total - to make it to the west coast, and Seattle, Portland, San Franciso, San Diego and LA would be gone.

Those 240 are largely tactical nuclear bombs of lower destructive power. Few kilotons at best, something that would be used on small cities or army brigades, divisions. You need ICBMs to hit the mainland United States, and like I said the Chinese have just 2 dozen of those. The US has 450 ICBMs, and 288 SLBM on submarines with hundreds of cruise missiles like Tomahawk which can be armed with nuclear warheads and fired from ships.

and since estimates now place Chinese capacity at 120+ nuclear tipped cruise missiles a month rolling off their assembly lines

A months?? I'd like a link stating this. Plus as I said before a cruise missile is a short range weapon.

The very moment the Chinese realize that they've lost the war, they would use nukes and then ... bye-bye west coast.

HAHA, the US has hundreds of ICMBs in silos, on submarines, not 10 or 20 like China. Aegis with SM-3, THAAD, Patriot triple protection would surely hit most of them before hiting the west coast. Americas response with its huge nuclear arsenal would leave China as a radioactive wasteland. Anti ship missiles so what? there are anti- anti ship missiles and Phalanx systems on US surface ships capable of dealing with them. Even though I'm sure it would be much more costly a D Day like invasion would probably succeed. China looks economically impressive on a whole, per capita Poles are twice as wealthy. With a 700 billion dollar annual US military budget I don't see the Chinese being a major treat in the near future. This is a country which still largely relies on Russia for military arms and technology.

I think you overestimate the effectiveness of our military in general [for this scenario]

Unlike Vietnam, we would have no friendly ports closer than Korea or Japan. The Chinese Navy, Air Force and Army is huge and growing, ours is downsizing

One thing to keep in mind in an evident full scale conflict with China the draft would be introduced just like in Vietnam. The Chinese have only a few hundred (500) tanks comparable to the US M1 Abrams, 200 4th generation fighters, a few dozen modern surface vessels and submarines. Only one aircraft carrier!!! Only 2 dozen ICBSs capable of reaching the US, on 2 Ballistic missile submarines. 100 billion dollar budget. Overall the US has 10x more modern weapons. The US carrier force alone would easily defeat the Chinese Air Force.

News / Czechs most liked by Poles! [35]

yep, Visa waiver.

Perhaps, Poland's unemployment is once again on the rise, with the GNP dropping to just over 2%. The building sector has been hit worst over a 30% drop compared with the same period last year. So once again many Poles, especially working class, will be looking for work elsewhere.

"Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) introduced The Visa Waiver Program Enhanced Security and Reform Act, a bipartisan bill that will enhance the national security benefits of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) while expanding the framework to welcome new countries like Poland into the program, and boost the economy.

"Modernizing the Visa Waiver Program will strengthen our national security and enhance international relationships with important allies like Poland, who have been denied visa-free travel because of an outdated regime." said Rep. Quigley. "I hope this bill will move quickly through Congress and to the President's desk, opening the doors for Poland once and for all."

"In Poland last month, Senator Kirk outlined his goal of adding Poland to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)," said a spokesperson for Senator Kirk. "Poland is a strong ally of the United States, plays a critical role in NATO military operations in Europe and the Middle East and its citizens should be afforded the right of visa-free travel to this country. Senator Kirk is eager to work with Sens. Mikulski and Cardin and Reps. Quigley and Chabot on this effort and looks forward to passing this bicameral, bipartisan legislation to include Poland into the VWP."

The only one that would give me pause is China. As the Russians quipped, "Quantity has a quality all it's own."

China would use the Soviet tactic of huge swarms of troops and tanks (mostly outdated). A single US M1 Abrams tank could easily deal with 5-10 Chinese tanks. As for the troops, inexperienced conscripts, huge American air power and artillery would take care of them. During the Vietnam War Nixon who obviously had more balls then Johnson wasn't afraid of Chinese or Soviet response and started a massive bombing campaign of the North. Linebacker I and II, was devastating North Vietnamese air force and air defenses were obliterated, power stations, oil depots, rail lines, bridges the North Vietnamese were close to pushing for peace but by that time support for the war was completely gone it was too late, Americans wanted out. The Soviets applied a good tactic for masses of Chinese troops during their border conflict of 1969, which I believe was fought over one tiny island on a river. The Soviet put dozens of Shilka 23mm AA guns and fired them on the Chinese troops causing heavy casualties.

The U.S. military is a joke and has been for the past forty years. Let's see them fight a nation of equal resources and firepower, not a bunch of third world towelheads riding goats

It's a lot easier to fight armored divisions for a modern, professional army like the US then a guerrilla warfare not knowing who the enemy is, or having them attack then hide in tunnels in high mountains. In a straight normal conflict, I don't think any nation has a chance with America.

News / Czechs most liked by Poles! [35]

Seriously, dislike for Romanians is by far the most pathetic in this poll, looks like still after so many years many people are stupid enough to think that Romanians=Gypsies.

Exactly. I have never met a Romanian in Poland, ethnic Romanian. At the time of the fall of communism there were many Romanian Gypsies on the streets begging. Romania has a very large Gypsy population plus many Poles believe this is where they come from thus thinking a Romanian and Gypsy is the same thing. Sheer ignorance.

UK, Ireland / Polish is Britain's second language, says UK report [52]

[*********************** same is true today. And I believe majority of that half a million Poles in the UK are well aware of that. The English are not welcoming but they are polite. It takes a while to get used to that cold politeness but once you've realised you will never make friends with them (not the sort of friends you could make with probably any other nationals) and have come to terms with that, you stop getting frustrated and just live peacefully.[/quote]

There are people here in America, Americans, who even though are friendly to me, are my "friends" but I know they will never look at and think of me as being an equal to them and a true friend. This is mostly in areas where there is a large immigrant community and I guess they feel threatened. The second type of Americans, usually upper middle class, is very polite and would never say anything derogatory but again will never see u as an equal to them, American born, in addition the social status and their wealth creates an even further gap. The third type, is people who are not prejudice at all and don't care where u come from. These are usually the younger generation who have friends of multi ethnic backgrounds, and date people who are of different nationalities then themselves.

i am surprised its so high

in 1993 It was over 70%. It would be higher it's just Americans foreign policy offsets this balance. Americans are likable people, they don't have this superiority complex like some other nations. Some are just patriotic.

he should ask himself why hes the former deputy minister for defence while komorowski has the backing of 69% of society

Because the then acting defense minister Komorowski, his superior, pressed to fire him, did back him up against those fake accusations and now his career is over. Szeremietiew a man who knows a hell of alot more on the military than Komorowski. Komorowski was but in by his superiors, friends, not for his competence.

dont tell me you believe that rubbish about him being actually a russian

Haha, I think Szeremietiew is the one who is of Russian ancestry, that surname is very popular in Russia. Yet he was a loyal supporter of Solidarity during communist times, served 5 years in prison during that period.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

As former assistant defense minister Romuald Szeremietiew said in a recent interview "Russia is spending 700 billion dollars on rearmament over the next 10 years, Belarus is also spending more on the military. Stationing Iskander ballistic missiles in Kaliningrad, having large join Russian-Belarussian military exercises on Poland's border with Poland being the enemy shows intimidation and aggression from Moscow. People didn't think Russia would invade Georgia and it did, with Europe doing absolutely nothing. Shows how indecisive and weak NATO really is. Maybe not today, but in the near future Russia could poise a very serious threat to Poland once again. It's our job to be ready" He also said how he doesn't understand how a liar like Komorowski has the backing of 69% of Polish society. A man who lied about his doctorate, about being part of Polish nobility, a man who accused the innocent Szeremietiew of corruption and pressed for his dismissal.

Roosevelt was a WASP prick. He knew nothing of Poland's history. He once even said 'Poland existing starts wars in Europe, and offsets the balance of power" so I guess in his mind Poland wasn't supposed to exist.

America wouldn't let anyone man their weapons. They paid for it and are responsible for them. Soviets occupying Poland and forcefully stationing troops there made Poland non sovereign. It's quite another thing when Poland invites foreign troops to stay on it's soil, just like Germany has. NATO promised to help if one of its members, Poland for instance, was attacked. This help could mean just declaring war and not doing anything, or some kind of a limited engagement. By Poland having American troops and billions of dollars or American equipment on her soil it gets a much better guarantee of intervention in case of war.

The leadership in Poland are a bunch of morons in some aspects.
This move is completely Pathetic.

Poland doesn't have long range missiles like the SM-3 or THAAD. I doubt that even if it wanted to purchase the system for it's own arsenal political pressure from Russia or maybe even some EU countries wouldn't let the transaction take place. Poland for it's own missile shield had weapons on the short range level, for medium range it need to purchase weapons abroad, read somewhere the French Aster-30 and Israeli David's Sling are prime candidates. btw legend, if Poland was to rely on its European allys it might as well just surrender. Time and time again they're sold her out or collaborated against her.

American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018

Poland will get the latest version of the SM-3, the Block IIA which is still in development form and will be a much more improved version of the missile. It will be part of new Aegis Ashore radar-missile system. Some 24 of the missiles are expected to be placed in Poland by 2018. Obama was critisized (to Moscow's amazement) by scrapping Bush's plan for the THAAD system to be placed. The THAAD is still more or less in its development stage. While the SM-3 has been proven to be effective. The SM-3 has a longer range than THAAD (over 500 kilometers) and max altitude of 160 kilometers.

Polish Deluge

LOL. It's funny I recently watched the British documentary about the Polish pilots during the Battle of Britain, and a Polish woman at the end ( remember far less Poles came and stayed in the UK after WWII then today) says how "I don't think we were ever really welcome here, I don't think they ever wanted us" Some hospitality.

News / New uniforms for Polish Army [30]

Polish Special Operation Forces (SOF) have been using uniforms in multicam (MC) pattern for quite some time.

Yes I know only the Special Forces use it, they should change it and make it the standard field uniform for the whole army. The US Army is interested in a very similar design, it was for a while willing to adapt the Marine uniform. The Universal Camouflage Pattern it currently uses has been an utter failure. Universal meaning for all combat zones (forest, desert, snow) meaning it didn't work in any. Gray isn't a color appearing in nature in any climate zone.

History / The Ribbentrop-Beck Pact [7]

Pilsudski asked France to pre-emptively attack Hitler together in early thirties, when Germany started to build up military.

Keep your friends close and enemies closer. If the French didn't wanna go to war together with Poland for their own benefit to weaken Germany, then they no way no how would ever attack Germany for Poland. Poland being between stronger states, Germany and Soviet Union had to choose an alliance with one or the other or be crushed.

History / The Ribbentrop-Beck Pact [7]

A new book by Piotr Zychowicz, a Polish author, about how Poland was to join Nazi Germany in invading the Soviet Union. He claims (according to his sources) that until the middle of 1939 Polish-German foreign relations were fundamentalised around that concept. In his book he claims that this started with the sighing of the German-Polish Non- Aggression Pact in 1934. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German%E2%80%93Polish_Non-Aggression_Pact . Assuming that the final pact (on wagging war together) would be sighed by 1939 Germany wound move against France and Great Britain in the spring of 1940. After invading France Poland's role would have been to secure Germany's eastern borders by preventing the Soviets from intervening. After defeating France and pushing the British back onto their island Poland would join Germany in wagging war against the Soviet Union. Poland's foreign policy changed with the death of Marshal Pilsudski and the changes Beck's new government made.

Poles scored in 1979 - 106 points in 1989 - just 92 points and in 2006 - again 106 points . So , I don`t claim that we possess the whole wisdom of the universe but don`t assume that Poles are inferior to you even if they live in a working family environment in UK .

The average of Poles is 99, same as Germany. dailykenn.blogspot.com/2012/06/by-dailykenn_19.html

Love / INTERACIAL DATING WITH POLISH.... ( my dilema) [8]

young urban styled pollacks are into a bit of hip hop culture & seem horny for a brown ass.

Jacqueline I know and have seen quite a few Polish men date, marry latina, Brazilian, black girls here in the US. Two of my friends actually have. There are just as many Latino or Black men who go to white bars, clubs, parties or simply hang out with white guys for the sole purpose to 'tap' a white girl. Everyone want's to try something else.

.I also work in a busy office & have had polish male co workers, very handsome, smart and respectable.

Then try dating a handsome, white collar Polish man. Good Luck!

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

I am curious as to what you mean by "Western media" though.

Western Media, I'll give you an example of what an impact in has made on people. German fans in Poland before the Euro 2012 Germany Greece said of the Greek team "they're wearing Jerseys paid for by our money" !

billions of Euros sent over from abroad increasing wages for those who staid.

Increased the living standards of the recipients. The wages were increased because there were shortages of workers and they had no other choice.
