UK, Ireland / Considering opening a Polish restaurant in the UK. [9]

Well when i was living in Cardiff, someone opened a Polish cafe, i never saw anyone eating in the cafe, it was quite cheap and in a typical Polish area of the city. Still it may work, but i don't think the locals would be down with eating Polish food!

Work / What are my chances in finding work at a callan school in Wroclaw? [22]

My accent is originally Scouse, with 20 years of Yorkshire thrown in for good measure

Perfect for any students which want to move to the north of England!

Although speaking at "required" Callan speeds means that most southern English folk wont understand you either! :)

I teach 4-6 hours of Callan a week, gives me an opportunity to relax from noisy children :)

Although if i have to ask "Whats this? It's a pen" ever again i may flip and go crazy!

USA, Canada / Where can I buy Polish Beer in SC? [26]

Isn't the sugar used completely different to North America?

Yep, its a fact

It's a shame but these products taste completely different in different locations around the world.

Coke-Cola products are awful in PL, but Pepsi products are OK!

I never buy coke here!

Food / Alcohol Prices for Wedding in Warsaw - Advice needed [19]

Last summer i went to a Polish/Irish Wedding, they decided that they would try keep the alcohol as traditional as possible so bought loads of vodka but they also got 6 cases of bottled beer, it turned out most people just drank vodka because all the Poles wanted to drink in the traditional way so everyone did!

Everyone had a great night, the only regrets was the people who mixed their beer and vodka.. mega hang over, soon sorted with a couple of vodkas at breakfast!

So, just keep it simple! everyone will have a great time!

Travel / Ski and Snowboard - Poland 09/10 season (updated: 10/11 season) [84]

ski slope companies usually make their own snow to keep it going

Cool, i was thinking March sometime, i know it depends on the winter season, but one can also hope for a long winter!

Do not go to Karpacz or Sklarska Poreba, its a total f'ing nightmare

Is it? We was there for a week last week, and all was fine. Generally we go on Kopa as its maintained quite well and basically no waiting time for ski lift. Though i must say Kopa was a painful start for me, but it has paid off!

Unfortunately my farther in-law wont let me drive to the mountains (in his car), so we get a bus straight to Karpacz, which doesn't take to long!

Does anyone have some tips for using surface lifts on a snowboard? on skis there easy but on my board its tuff for me, i tried having my right foot in its binding and my left foot between the bindings is that the correct method? (it was hard to keep balanced)

Thanks again!

Travel / Ski and Snowboard - Poland 09/10 season (updated: 10/11 season) [84]

I have a question, we go snowboarding in Karpacz (because its easy to get to for us)

This being my first year in PL i was wondering when(ish) the season ends? we asked a helpful guy in the hire shop who said "When the snow has gone" great but does it go as far as mid march?

Thanks

Work / What are my chances in finding work at a callan school in Wroclaw? [22]

Hey!

I understand your choice not to get any teaching qualifications, but to be honest most Callan schools teach by other methods also and they require some kind of teaching qualification. In my opinion you will find Callan boring and repetitive especially for 20 hours a week!

I teach in a school which teaches Callan, textbook and conversation, i do approx 6 hours of Callan (a week) and it gives me a headache, Also you depend on being able to speak loudly and clearly at all times, impossible if you get a cold or have a headache, resulting in no classes!.

Early Aug is a good time to start looking. If you are sure you want to teach Callan, get on the Website and track down the Callan schools in Wroclaw, but bare in mind Wroclaw has many Natives with teaching qualifications willing to teach Callan. with no qualifications they will want to pay you a minimal amount, which will make it tough to live a good live in Wroclaw!

Bare in mind the point in Callan is that you use no Polish, You teach them to speak and think in English.. if they understand or not!

Good luck!

Food / Alcohol Prices for Wedding in Warsaw - Advice needed [19]

14 kegs of Zywiec... Do you mean UK 11 Gallon Kegs or 6.5 Gallon which they generally use in bars here?

That's about 1150 pints! (in UK kegs) which seems a lot, unless your Irish or Scottish??

I've got a funny feeling Van Gogh has it for some reason...

Really! that's cool, i love Kaluha

I'm making my own at the moment :)

Food / Alcohol Prices for Wedding in Warsaw - Advice needed [19]

All i can say is, try find a whole sale outlet, many small bars use them for sertain supplys

If you or your partner speak Polish i would do some Google'in and try find somthing around Warsaw.

I dought you will beable to get direct from the supplyer....

As for wine, the same as above,

Be aware that the supply of sertain sprits is limited in PL for example Barcardi is the most comon rum, Havana is expensive (You can get Tesco own brand!)... plus i have never seen Kaluha, but you can get Tia Maria

If you are driving to PL you could always pick up some wine in France :)
