Life / Poland, maybe the world's last bastion of faith [67]

Moral behavior was the norm and challenges to that foundation were openly condemned. The consequences of that environment were only good. Divorce was unheard of, as were cases of abuse, addiction, abandonment, theft, violence, etc. It was a wonderful time during which it was rarely necessary to lock your doors, even if you were leaving for the day.

It must be nice to say that you grew up in a perfect world like that but I'm sure there were ALOT of people who lived around you who experienced abuse, addiction, etc. in secret. They didn't have to lock their doors because the devil was already inside. The church is sometimes a cover or illusion.

Off-Topic / Does anyone else find Cygans fascinating? [60]

Aren't Gypsies called Roma in Europe and their language Romani?

they also play guitars.. google Gypsy kings sometime.. super awesome.

I've had a Gipsy Kings CD for years. love it.

By the way, there was a hugely popular tv show "Gitanas" about Spanish gypsies. She was gypsy, he was white, their love was forbidden.

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

Well, because your dad was from Englewood, his last name is anything but Sklodowski.

I believe him. He didn't exactly say his dad was Polish. It's probably the other way around.

No! This word is used to describe babies born in the US under the 14th amendfment.

The article says that children are considered anchor babies if their mother is an illegal immigrant. I guess that means if your dad is illegal when you're born but your mom isn't, then you're not an anchor baby? That's weird.

What deterioration? Our society is progressing nicely, thanks!

Well, except on the streets of L.A. hehe. I had a friend visit and could not believe what the daily news was like here.

Life / Polish ghost stories [38]

I have a friend who was stationed over there in the military years ago, I forgot exactly where. They were asleep in the forest in the middle of the night and they were awakened by horses galloping toward them. They got up terrified and the sound vanished. In the morning, they checked and there were no marks in the dirt.

Ah this will be the forest near Drawsko pomorskie . now a huge Nato training ground , but for many years the place where the legion of the dead ride ride into battle with the enemies of Polska...

That's amazing. I'll have to tell my friend. I don't think they knew this.

Partial listing of California's Polish-American eateries and delis as well as non-Polish ones that serve or stock Polish items

There's also European Deli and Bakery in Glendora, CA.

Old World Restaurant in Huntington Beach has awesome Polish sausage.

USA, Canada / Any Poles in Orange County, CA? [40]

Anyone have any good restaurants/delis/ other for him to get his feet wet with?

Did you mean in Orange County only? There's Polka Deli in Orange. It's very small but he might meet some people there. They all speak Polish.

If you mean Los Angeles, too, here's a topic that has a list of places:

USA, Canada / Any Poles in Orange County, CA? [40]

Our Saddleback Mountains contain a Modjeska Canyon so named for the famous Polish actress who lived there

You can even take a tour of the Helena Modjeska house.

Do you watch Huell Howser? He did a show on the Modjeska House.

I also saw an awesome documentary about her life. Bay Island in Newport Beach was once called Modjeska Island because she bought a house there.

Love / Polish Girl Doesn't Want To Touch. [240]

But I feel like I'm the bendiest guy in the world now, a professional contortionist that could make money in the circus. I'm bending over backwards really far

wow. Can we see a picture of that? ;)

I have asked. She becomes expressionless, almost slightly irritable. Even if calm, and sweet in the asking, she avoids eye contact and says nothing. She will even walk away without saying goodbye. She has done it several times.

That means "no".

Did you tell her that you had romantic feelings for her before she moved in with you?

Love / Polish Girl Doesn't Want To Touch. [240]

Popcorn, did you have a deal with her that she could move in with you on the condition that it would become romantic? If not, then I think you deceived her. You made her think that she could move in with you as a friend and then you started touching her, pushing yourself on her. And now you want to throw her out because she's not giving in. How is she taking advantage of you? I think it's the other way around. Ask her to start paying rent if you've changed your mind and feel entitled to money but stop groping her.

Love / Polish Girl Doesn't Want To Touch. [240]

Popcorn, I think she made her feelings very clear with her body language but you can't take a hint. You've chosen to force yourself on her, which is wrong. You could end up in jail eventually, because of her or someone else, if that's how you behave.

Even your title "Polish Girl Doesn't Want to Touch" is clear and then you go on and on about still trying to touch her. Isn't that some kind of crime even? It gives me the creeps.

Love / THE POLISH DISEASE, wanna marry a Polish girl ? read on... [197]

ok ive just joined this site and ive seen lots of men talking about polish women and what they are like

trust me you WILL ruin your life with them,, the ones ive seen that last the men are always miserable

like i said i have a huge polish family here and over there
take this truth and go with it guys, id spare some of you the crap some of us are going thru

Well, if all of these things are true, then I think all men who are married to Polish women should leave their wives at once, and all unmarried men should refuse to marry Polish women, and they should all stop having children with them and allow the entire Polish race to cease to exist. They should marry women of other races who don't cause any problems. This will stop all of these innocent men from suffering ever again. ;)

yeah those long leggs look good
the blonde cute face,, yeah i know,, i know,,,

Wait. Is it only tall, blonde Polish women who are like this? Then I guess the short brunette ones are safe.

His girlfriend probably read this...and stabbed him....

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. His dead body is probably strewn on the floor of the house that they shared together.

Maybe the reason popcorn can't tell us what happened is because the whole thing was a violation of his probation from prison.

(just kidding popcorn)

Food / Help me like Polish food (recommendations) [48]

Simple. Europeans are perhaps the first peoples to settle the lands that now comprise 'America'.

What happened? Did the Spaniards kill them all when they discovered their civilizations and forget to mention them?

AFAIK, szarlotka AKA tatanka is apple juice with żubrówka, which is a vodka flavoured with - wait for it - so-called "bison grass". So tatanka is a fun name for the drink.

I checked the internet and there's a website that acknowledges that it's a Lakota Indian word for "bull buffalo" and they use that name in Poland for the drink. I had no idea.

Love / THE POLISH DISEASE, wanna marry a Polish girl ? read on... [197]

It seems like she just hung out with me as a backup, a shoulder to lean on, if she could not find another guy she likes more. Which she did in the end.

I don't agree. It sounds like she liked you as more than a friend, based on what you described. She denied it later probably just to hurt you.

I remember one or two SERIOUS comments she made.. 'I always ignored every man first', separate ocassion... 'i'm going to ignore you, haha'

...because if she ignores a man first then she remains in control and doesn't get hurt. She's going to do the whole thing all over again with the new boyfriend.

Hmmm, I thought they can come in through the pipes too, especially in the bathroom.

Maybe I used hot water? I don't remember. I haven't seen them in a long time.

But a reasonable enough person to draw a line and say, "Frankly, Olga I don't give a damn."

Whatever happened with Olga? Did she change her mind? Did she ever come back?
