Hey McCoy,
You are in Krakow right?
Have you been to the poster gallery?
I bring my friends there when they are over, some excellent stuff there.

I am looking for the famous painting of the horses running towards you that used to be in the cloth gallery in Rynek Glowney but they moved it to Niepolomice, along with a lot of fine art paintings. Do you know the one and who is it by?

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

I should really try to do an Omnibus of the POLISH FORUM SOAP OPERA.
But I would like to share a very old story about another tandem story.

I think this is hilarious and I think Rebecca and Jim must be Polish Forum members.
I have my suspicions who they are;)

THE COLLEGE THEME PAPER: HE VS. SHE

(Teacher)
"Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. Each person will pair off. One of you will then write the first paragraph of a short story. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back and forth.

STORY:

(first paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question. ------------------------------------------------------

(second paragraph by Jim)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17", he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off, a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed hurriedly and carefree, with no newspapers to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her."Why must one lose one's innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully. ---------------------------------------------------------

(Jim)
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mother ship launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret Mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid, Laurie and 85 million other Americans. The President slammed his fist on the conference table. "We can't allow this! I'm going to veto that treaty! Let's blow 'em out of the sky!" ----------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca
) This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Jim)
Yeah? Well, you're a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh shall I have camomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of F*CKING TEA??? Oh no, I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels." ----------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca)
Ass hole. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Jim)
Bitch. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca)
Wanker. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Jim)
slut. ---------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca)
Get f*cked. ----------------------------------------------------------

(Jim)
Eat shit. --------------------------------------------------------

(Rebecca)
F*CK YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!!! ----------------------------------------------------------

(Jim) Go drink some tea - whore. *********************************************

(Teacher) A+ - I really liked this one

Is that too much copy and paste?

I hope this is the right thread for this?

News / Dalai Lama says: "POLAND HAS RETAINED ITS SPIRIT" [77]

Ceremonial rhetoric

What do you mean by Ceremonial rhetoric.
I thought it was quite clear.
Poland has endured a lot.
It did not exist for a while but the people (spirit) formed it again.
I have never heard the Dalai Lama just saying things like that out of ceremony.

I get where you are coming from.
I have always been impressed with the Poles.
In the centre defending and attacking but still being Poland.
It is a question of what it means to be Polish?
Why through all the wars and even when Poland did not exist, did these people say we are not German, Russian, Swedish, etc... But we are Polish.

Ha ha ha, i am having visions of that film "300", THIS IS POLAND! ha ha ha

I think one of the bigger differences between Irish history and Polish, is that the Brits never wanted us, as a people, they wanted our land for various defensive and imperial reasons but not the people, whereas the Commies wanted the "hearts and minds" of the Poles.

I like the Dali Lma, i read some of his teachings.
It is unfortunate about Tibet having been almost completely lost to China.

It certainly wasn't due to the generosity of map makers or the countries surrounding

I remember it got lost on the map, nobody seemed to mind except the peaceful Tibetans and even more unfortunately not many seemed to notice or care.

Perhaps Polish people can relate to that, I think i can.

Ceard a mile failte stormhorse,
i am from Dublin and I live here in poland too.
I am very curious because of the extreme temperatures, different needs and materials here there is a completely different way of building.
You have your work cut out for you.
I would be very interested to hear what you think about the construction industry here, from an architect's point of view.
Best of luck to you!

They conned my fiancee's grandma to the tune of 30k.

Doh!, I thought, well you know what I thought.
It is me who is misunderstanding, excuse me.

Communism was an ideology with ultimate goal of Global domination

In this light, yes they are similar but this is not what I meant.
But I seem to be on a roll for misunderstanding tonight...

i think they targeted me because of the UK plate.

Probably.

Cant trust the Romanians.

There is a big mis understood thing going on in Europe, Romas or Gypsies aren't Romanian.
In fact most Romas don't live in Romania and the Romanians HATE the Romas.
It is easy to get them confused.

what is interesting and in some ways forgotten perhaps is that poland itself did not exist for over a hundred years due to occupation.

Only 100 years? :)
I certainly have not forgotten.

i am going to see him speak on Thursday in warsaw

Good stuff, I have not read anything by him in a long time.

I have to disagree with this statement; I personally do not see the difference. Communism was an ideology with ultimate goal of Global domination. Although the propaganda might have painted this picture as such that was never the case.

The fact that the commies had propaganda for you shows how they wanted to assimilate Polish people, "hearts and minds".
The English never came up with propaganda for the Irish, against the Irish yes but they did not want us.
I do see a difference in our histories about this.
I think i know what you mean a dominator is a dominator but there is a difference, know what I mean?

Jim, via SeanBM:

the inconceivably massive explosion

If you are talking about the essay at the top of this page, I thought it was very funny and a kind of take the mickey out of the PF soap.

I don't know if you or your minions will like it.
Why do I get the feeling your minions are vegetables soon to be eaten by you?
