Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

A woman who doesn't want to have children can be married 5 times and she is still a spinster. Sorry.

Sorry, but you're acting childish now. Words "spinster" and "bachelor" have a fixed meaning. They describe people who aren't married. You'll have to invent some other word in order to offend married couples who don't want to have kids :) Or are you just offending women? Married men who don't want to have kids are not "mental bachelors" according to you?

The remaining 80 people, on the other hand, have healthy instincts regarding reproduction and would like to have children.

I don't know about numbers or percentage, but I also think that majority of people would like to have children (that includes women). So, instead of complaining that the world isn't as it used to be (because it won't go back to what it was and thank God for that!), make it easier and more attractive for women to have children. I think no amount of propaganda claiming how great it is to be a mother will convince them, because women know what the reality is on the ground. So, change the reality instead of making up lies about that reality.

Married middle-aged woman who doesn't have children is, to all intents and purposes, an old spinster. :)

No, she isn't:

dictionary.cambridge.org/pl/dictionary/english/spinster

I didn't realise you can be such a primitive a$$hole, GF. I have a female relative who's been married for a long time, but couldn't get pregnant for years. She and her husband were trying to have a kid for a very long time until they gave up and they left everything they own in their will to their niece. And then my relative got pregnant at 49! A freaking miracle :) Everybody was very happy for them, because they're very nice people. They have a daughter now :)

So, are you telling me that my relative was a "spinster", despite being married for years, just because she couldn't get pregnant??

Lets not forget the men who turn over their pay checks to support stay home mothers and children for 25 years of their lives

Oh for f*ck sake! Having a job isn't a "sacrifice" lol If you want to earn a living you have to work, even if you're single and childless.

Why would they make it easier for you if asking women to make it easier for them is considered sexist and patriarchy?

It's sexist and patriarchy because it's one-sided. Only women are expected to make sacrifices in terms of their careers or even education. If the expectations were the same for both women and men then it would be fair. But it isn't. Get it?

having children is their other as ambitious and important way in life that is no less or worse that being some pen-pusher in some office.

But it's not just about "having children". "Having children" for women usually means "taking care of them basically on their own" (at least in Poland). The same can't be said about men. So, again, it's easy for you to say.

And why should only women be educated about this? Why men shouldn't be also educated that taking care of children (and not just "having" them) is "ambitious and important way in life that is no less or worse tham being some pen-pusher in some office"? And if it's such a great and satisfying way of life then why men aren't becoming stay-at-home dads or aren't participating more in taking care of and raising their own kids?

the only thing left will be loneliness... horrible loneliness creeping ever closer each day... loneliness, regret and emptiness... void never to be filled with anything...

lol Oh dear :D
And this is the problem - you don't understand that there are people different than you. People who don't need kids to fill any "void", because their lives are rich enough. Also, not having kids doesn't equal being lonely. People have partners/spouses, friends and the rest of their family. You have a rather narrow-minded view of life and people, it seems.

that you consider things like "career" and "ambitions" to be more important than having children.

I wasn't writing about myself, but in general. And my posts were a response to your patronising, judgemental and unfair comments.

Maybe if man were more willing to put their ambition aside to raise the kids women wouldn't have to make such choices?

Exactly.

Everyone has to make choices, both women and men.

No, not in this regard. Only women are expected to make this choice. Men don't have to do it, because they can have both (a family and a career) - they know they can focus on their careers, because their wives will be there to take care of their children. Majority of men wouldn't do the same for their wives.

You are the one who is Pro-Abortion, not I.

What does it mean "pro-abortion"? If you're talking about abortion on demand then I've never been in favour of that and I stated that on PF more than once.

Hence no need for abortions. The morning after pill takes care of rapes.
Don't you agree ?

It depends. From what I've read you have to take that pill within a limited time frame for it to work (72 hours). I'm guessing that after that time one would have to have an abortion.

And no, what made me sick was the way you wrote about women.

@GefreiterKania, I'm wrong about what exactly? That women are human beings too?

I wish that one day both of you will have lovely, beautiful and smart kids and that they will be the light of your lives.

I'm not sure if I'm reading you right, but I'm getting an impression that you think I'm against having kids or something... I'm not o_O And it doesn't look to me that Lenka is against having kids either.

... but cutting them up and throwing the pieces - all still warm and bloody - into the garbage makes you feel good. Right ?

I see abortion is your idée fixe. Not having children doesn't equal abortion. Contraception is enough. And married couples with kids use contraception too if they don't want to have more kids than they already do.

her academic "career" and complete her PhD thesis on "Latvian cutlery in the 17th century" or something equally important, I would be a rich man.

Yes, GF, women have dreams too. And ambitions. We want to feel fulfilled in life too - not just men. We're human beings too and not just some "breeders" and nannies for your children.

If sh*t hits the fan it's usually the women that ends up qith all the care for the kids.

Yes, and this brings me to GefreiterKania's accusation of "selfishness". It's funny that it always comes from men together with all that whining about women not wanting to "breed" anymore. It's easy for men to be "non-selfish" considering that it's usually the women who have to make all the sacrifices.

Mass media, popular culture, decline of Christianity - we all know that. Family has moved down the list compared to "career

My mother was raised in the countryside and is a religious Catholic. She grew up during communism with no TV. And yet she was absolutely anal about me getting an education and a good job.

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

Why are Polish women opting out of their job as breeders today ?

You make me sick.

This made urban families change their calculus and lower the number of children to 1-2

I think also a lack of space played a role and still does. In the countryside people usually live in houses, often with a few rooms and in the city - small flats.

your selfishness

Didn't it cross your mind that not all people are cut out to be parents? To be honest, when I look at my parents' generation and at what my neighbours are like, I'm thinking that many people in Poland shouldn't have children. But they're having them anyway, because you're supposed to have kids. And they produce damaged, broken people. They're the ones who are being selfish, because they don't care what they're doing to their kids.

@Miloslaw, I did take RussianAntiPutin at face value. At some point I started having some doubts, which I didn't share, because that wasn't enough to accuse someone of being a troll and I decided to observe and see how things play out :) I still have no idea who this could be and what would be the purpose of trolling as a Russian girl. So, I'm still giving her the benefit of the doubt as I don't see enough evidence for her being a troll.

She's pretty much harmless, so I think it would be better to leave her alone. What if she's a real poster and you guys are going to drive out a new member? We don't have many new members lately... We could use some new kids on the block. And even if she's not who she claims she is, I don't see her doing any damage, so...

Genealogy / Birth in Lviv in 1926: Polish or Ukrainian nationality? [29]

Russian 'Kublitsky-Piottukh'

Originally it's Polish, not Russian. Your family may have lived on lands that were Russian empire at some point, but this surname is Polish, not Russian.

Check this out:

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kublicki

"Kublicki (or Pietuch, sometimes Piotuch) - Polish noble coat of arms, family crest of formely a Lithuanian family, known in połockie lands since the 16th century and later in rzeczycki lands, a variation of Prus III coat of arms. According to S. Uruski in the połockie lands there was also a family of Kublicki with Ostoja coat of arms."

maybe in a town in the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth

I think that's where your family comes from - the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After the partitions the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ceased to exist and part of it's lands was taken by the Russian empire.

Do you, mean nobility or szlachta?

Nobility is the English word for "szlachta". "Szlachta" is a general term in Polish for all "ranks" of nobility: magnates, aristocracy, nobility, gentry or whatever:

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szlachta

"Szlachta" is also translated as "gentry", but judging by it's meaning that would be "szlachta zaściankowa" in Polish, I think.

Stanisław Kublicki's coat of arms/family crest was an old crest Ostoja and I'd say he defenitely belonged to "szlachta", rather than "szlachta zaściankowa". I don't know about Piotuch, but in that link I posted there are Polish insurrectionists fighting against Russia listed with surname "Piotuch" and one "Kublicki-Piotuch" - all of them are described as "szlachcic" (nobleman), so it looks like during the partitions that family still belonged to "szlachta" (nobility or gentry in thier case - I don't know).

Genealogy / Birth in Lviv in 1926: Polish or Ukrainian nationality? [29]

Kublicki

This is a Polish surname:

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82aw_Kublicki

I guess this surname could have Ukrainian roots, since it probably comes from the name of the village/town Kublicz (Kublich in English) in Ukraine.

Piottuch

Piotuch is a Polish surname:

genealogia.okiem.pl/powstanies/index.php?nazwisko=Piotuch

Does your family come from the nobility?

@johnny reb, I doubt that majority of Poles are such devout Catholics. Besides, we're not talking here about a total lack of ban on abortion, but going back to "the abortion law consensus" that PiS threw out of the window.

mortal mans law

...is the law in any secular democracy. It can be influenced to various degrees by the religious views of a given society, of course. But the degree to which it is influenced by those religious views depends on the level of religiousness of the said society (and common sense, I guess, hopefully).

@johnny_reb, that's because Poland is a secular democracy and not a religious regime.

let the people decide - have a referendum.

PiS won't allow a referendum, because judging by the polls majority of Poles are against the harsher abortion law that was introduced by this government. PiS knows what the result of the referendum would be.

Genealogy / CHERDIA - What or where could it be?! [15]

The birth place is listed exactly as Cherdia, Podolsk, Russia.

Podolsk is a city, so I don't know what Cherdia would be... Some village in the administrative area of Podolsk that later became part of the city maybe? No idea...

Any ideas or speculation that may help me figure this out?

The letter "d" when written in the handwritten Cyrillic script looks like Latin "g". So maybe someone made a mistake when translating from Russian and it's "Cherga"?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherga

That's a wild guess though...

Ah, sorry, no, that would be the other way around... If it was Cherda then it could be mistakenly written down as Cherga in Latin alphabet... No idea then...

Law / Can I Legally Adopt My Girlfriend's Child? [3]

@Videobroker, yes, you can legally adopt your girlfriend's child:

cuk.pl/porady/przysposobienie-dziecka

time frame?

According to that link it can take around 2 years.

if I'm married to the child's mother, that doesn't automatically make me legally responsible for the child, not until a formal adoption has taken place.

Yes, correct, but it would speed up the process.

What is the cost

Sorry, no idea. If your girlfriend is Polish, can't she look for such information herself? Unless you're looking for foreigners with similar experiences on this forum?

Ballet is pure art

What about ars amandi? :)))

sex is simply animalistic and disgusting.

Depends. There are different types of sex. Sex can be beautiful - for example, when it's called "making love" :) And it's an important part of a romantic relationship (unless the couple is asexual).

It's much more important than balet, that's for sure.

I think it depends... When ballet is your whole life... Or music... Or art... Artists often have a great need to create, for some it's like eating, sex and all other basic things... Being able to create becomes part of you. If they can't paint for some reason, they may get depressed. I imagine it can be the same for professional dancers...
