Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Heck if I can tell the difference! I have long calf muscles, long legs, short waist, big bust, wear small clothes (except bust, rofl), and can wear extra small to medium clothes.

I have brown eyes, dark brown almost black hair, wavy like my ancestors' paintings and photos. I played "do I have attributes of my ancestors" Sunday, and my friends could pick sections of the faces and hair that I looked like!

[quote=kazia] Should be quite easy to work out which one you are . Did you not give a very detailed description of yourself (see below).

Then guess, Kazia, jump into the fun.

;> I'll give a full disclosure at the end.

All I'm guessing is the gentleman on the right is Polish, and the girl in white Ukrainian. Gentleman on left American. I'm not good at this, but my guess is Czechoslovakia for the lady in red.

Well, there was one excellent try, and it shows how looks can be deceiving.
L1) African/American
2) Ukrainian
3) English/Eu mix
4) Jewish
5) Polska

I threw you all off big time, because I'm wearing a red wig, and outrageous costume! Unfortunately my corset was too large, so it had a flattening effect rather than a lifting effect. Remember, it's a Halloween photo, so looks were meant to be deceiving. I also took measurements, and was surprised that I did indeed have the highest hairline; also, my widow's peek is showing, making the wig much more convincing, after dying my hair to match the wig. I had taken my gloves off for the photo, and I felt we were a class act for Hollywood Halloween.

It was amusing, because the door man gave me a Reel of drink coupons for best costume, of course which I shared with my friends.

Dzhaklin, I see we have the same tastes in dyeing our hair red, we could be sisters! You are very pretty (not hitting on you, just observation).

- Julie as Countess of vampires

This is one of my favorites, showing my face - but like the description says, I'm wearing a full set of fangs! I was in a full victorian dress a few years ago, and riding along in my friend's brand new SUV on Halloween. I can nearly speak without a lisp with the custom fangs, and I had great fun rolling down the window, hitting on guys. Unfortunately, one car full of cuties thought I was the real deal, and hit reverse, yiikes! Come on; Halloween in Hollywood, get the joke? Guess my friend's subtle makeup job on me was too good, a la 'Queen of the Damned' style.

Note: the spiderweb wings were purchased to go with the above outfit, and I just realized I never had pics of the two put together. I do have a theatrical side, and have spent too much money on costumes. You wouldn't believe how much the Emerald green with matching skirt cost!

Miranda, that would be wonderful! We are simply all gorgeous gals...no wonder the men faun over us. ;)

Bring on the Halloween pics - perhaps we'll need a separate forum, if everyone wishes to join in.

One interesting thing I've noticed, are our eyebrow similarities, Dzhaklin. I knew that the way I did my eyebrows on that first photo was overly arched with makeup, thus bring attention away from me.

I admit, this is the first time I've really paid any attention to the ethnic looks. And I reiterate, that us Polska gals are simply adorable.

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

In California and many other states, people have doctor's papers saying it's legal for them to consume or smoke marijuana, because it's one of the few things that helps with nerve pain. Not much else does, except expensive antiseizure drugs and some antidepressants. I've known many people who cut their $2000 medication bill down dramatically, with the help of medical marijuana - because it works when used correctly.

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

Easternslav is correct - hypothyroidism is rampant in many families, and in my mother's side.
Part of the issue is that they treat Hypothyroidism on a BELLCURVE, since the '70s. Before that, they'd give you the dessicated thyroid until you felt better. Today's dosage is at least half of what it was, out of fear of causing heart attacks; it never caused them! This single lack of proper treatment I believe has contributed to morbid obesity, Fibromyalgia, CFS, and created a way for the drug companies to make BILLIONS of bucks per year.

How much does it cost if you treat it yourself, with dessicated thyroid each month? $20!

I have the light olive skin, btw, unless I choose to obtain a suntan. After seeing girls in their 20s turn into wrinkled old ladies within a few years, I chose to stop tanning, and pleased with that simple life change, along with using sunblock.

I also have dark brown hair, 5'6" tall, with slim build, but busty. Many of my friends from Hungary and Poland seem to be naturally top heavy, so mostly separates when purchasing clothes. Brooches are a girl's best friend, too!

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

Jones, you have a point; stoned people never robbed a bank.

Rocky, I find it sad that you and your friend are abusing the drug law - it is definitely NO joke, for those whom it was intended for! At least acknowledge that mmj does help people who are in chronic, unremitting pain, 24/7 year round.

I have a friend whom I took to one of those 215 doctors, with his MRIs and doctor records. He has 10 conditions that he's suffered with for almost a decade, and was contemplating suicide to stop the pain, when I mentioned the mmj to him as an option. Even his own mother would rather he be dead than try it because of the propaganda (that's so sick and twisted). So I drove him. The doctor talked with him, and told him that he only needed two of his chronic conditions for a few years, to obtain the license - but with 10, she was shocked he was still alive, and said the program was definitely made for him!

So he's at $20 a week, he's been gaining his life back, and cut his regular drugs way down. Plus it's the FIRST thing he's taken, that has affected the nerve pain! After they figure out which type suits him best, it may go up to $30 a week (for pain free), but it's so nice to see him awake, and actually moving around!! Yes - the mmj actually has him active, seriously. I doubted it too, but from what the doc said, it affects nerve damaged people differently. He said he's starting to feel like he may be able to work a job again, and is vying for hopefully, pain free days.

Just sad people abuse it, but thank g*d people that really need it are being helped, and my friend didn't kill himself from the 9+ out of 10 pain daily. I'm going to see him tomorrow for a bit.

Sorry, but I digress; I don't feel it's a joke.

I do feel that it should be completely decriminalized, and treated like alcohol, as a DUI if you are wasted and drive. But otherwise, I've never had issues with wasted people.

Tolerance is needed, and yes; terrible things were done by the baby boomers, but no generation matures without mistakes. Just hope our generations can do it less costly - and stop tossing people into prison for marijuana related incidents.

ikey - sounds like you need to repost your comment in the Polish Relationships area, under its OWN thread for help, dear!

I'll give MY personal opinion, take it or whatever, but my feelings: most of us Polish families are Roman Catholic, and get the guilt trip laid onto us heavily. After four years, you should be in already married! Seems like you are both wasting precious time, by making things feel all iffy. Just make her an honest woman. That is my take on it, but my opinion is worth only what it's printed on (but from the knowledge of what her family is pressuring her about).

I definitely look like my dad, and his side of the family, and our ancestors. I miss my daddy very, very much...and wish I had a little girl and boy to take after me, tell about our history to. But I need to be married first.

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small.
And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all.
Call Alice...when she's ten feet tall!

Rocky, I do agree with legalization. That's just money better spent elsewhere, say on violent crimes, such as murder, and helping the poor! America looks bad to other countries, because we have people, and families living on the streets out here. Heck, near my Aunt, there's an entire tent city of those who were foreclosed out of their homes!

A country is judged by how they treat their poorest; we suck at that.

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

Rocky, you are lucky, but also are incorrect. You are fortunate you weren't locked up or fined.

Out in OC and Long Beach, you go to 215 specialist doctors, who want ALL your medical records to look over, including MRIs if available, plus the MRI reports. Normally costs $150, and you are NOT guaranteed the doctor's written suggestion for MMJ. Then, there's the '215 mmj card'.

Guess what?? It isn't regulated, and really doesn't exist as far as I know. Ergo, the doctors print out their own for additional money to their written suggestions.

Because these doctors stick their necks out, they aren't your typical doctors, hell no, Cash only, on the barrel, no insurance.

Put dat in yer pipe and schmoooke it! (joke).

Also, MMJ people are allowed to grow their own plants for personal medicinal use, and have 8 mature plants.

I am for decriminalization, 100%. Treat it like alcohol intoxication, same rules: can't do it while ON the job, or driving a motorized vehicle (not even a boat).

Like what was said, that would remove the criminal element, and enable the mmj patients to actually be able to reasonably afford their medications. I've personally gone over the reports for the Four Federal MMJ patients, and it's amazing that the ALS patients are still alive and functioning! I've poured over research, and the different cannaboids, the active part, help so many ailments. Like Opiods, we have Cannaboid receptors in our brains. Together, those two drugs can just radically drop Chronic Pain below a 4/10, which is truly phenomenol.

Also, if legalized, people won't be putting Ajax up their noses or smoking horse tranquilizer, and perhaps save lives.

All I can point out, is that Grandma made corn whiskey and vodka during prohibition, and she wasn't a criminal. She had 3 kids, and none ever had a criminal record. Prohibition was wrong - and the War on Drugs is wrong, because the ONLY way to stop Drug trafficking is to: Decriminalize it!

None of those specific names ring a bell. What is important, is that they were on the Polish/Russian border, Kresy! Try using that as a key word, when looking things up.

I can only tell you that most people who could fled the Russians, and came here or the EU, it was a horrible and sad time, as you well know.

Yes, they were very strong people, all of them. I wish I'd known my family left behind in Poland, only met Alka, or Elka, on my grandmother's side. Very bitter that we had it so much better. We did send many shipments of good clothes, though, for 20 years.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Perhaps people were more advanced at telling the sun and moon cycles across the board than previously thought. Why on earth do archaeologists ALWAYS say the past people always killed things, each and every time!? And every time they find a goddess statue, they call it a freaking FERTILITY statue!? That is sooo lame.

Bratboy, I like thinking of you as a blonde Conan.

There is much enjoyment in this, for the Samaritans, and I'll take the King Arthur Legend for Poland, for the WIN!

I do also rather enjoy the link of the Amazons to moi. THAT is rather amusing, and fits my attitude to a 'T'.

From sources online:

The swastika (from Sanskrit svástika स्वस्तिक ) is an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles, in either right-facing (卐) or left-facing (卍) forms. The swastika can also be drawn as a traditional swastika, but with a second 90° bend in each arm.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, meaning welfare (su = "well" + asti = "he is").
