Travel / Photos from Poland [258]

When I visited Poland in 2005, we went to Mikolajki. When we left there, heading to Olstyn, we went to a fabulous restaurant. It was not in a city, but on what I would say a back road. The building looked like an old barn, or boat house/boat building warehouse. The place was filled with antiques and set up like little dining rooms. The food was awesome and cheap. The parking lot was gravel. I would love to know the name of the restaurant and the town it was in.

I have pics of the place, but for some reason can't post them on here (maybe too big and I'm not computer savvy). If anyone thinks they know where I'm speaking of, email me and I'll send along a pic KatOwens@aol.com.

Thanks everyone! :)

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

attrocities commited hundreds of years ago. I'm not English, I'm not French I had nothing to do with the slave trade and cramming hundreds of slaves aboard ships suitable for only about 50 "passangers".

I had to add my 2 cents to this comment. It was not soley the English or 'whites' who were responsible for the slave trade; there were a significant number of black or Africans who sold their own people. These Africans made a pretty penny selling their own people. Granted, it was a horrible thing, however, 'whites can not be soley to blame for this.

In addition, yes, blacks are racist, as are every other ethnic group. But, I don't know if it's true racism or INTOLERANCE. Here in the US, I see blacks daily who have a chip on their shoulder towards whites and other blacks who have been successful. Right now, it's the illegal Mexican influx that we're having issues with. People, white and back, are very intolerant of the Mexicans. I am conflicted on my feelings for Mexicans; on one hand they are bettering themselves and their families, on the other hand they are here ILLEGALLY. Yes, my great grandparents were immigrants, but they were LEGAL and they assimilated. The Mexicans here are not assimilating and are getting everything that hardworking, tax paying Americans are getting. We have a serious problem and we have to do something now before we become MexAmeriCana (Mexico/America/Canada).

Genealogy / Want to find a person [762]

Searching for NESTOR, EJSMONT, CYWINSKI

I'm searching for the above surnames. These are my great grandparents names. I have heard that Nestor may be a Lithuanian name? Cywinski came from Rohatyn (now Ukraine, then Eastern Galicia) and Ejsmont from Hrodna (now Ukraine, then Poland).

Would love to learn more. :)

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Great thread! Enjoyable reading. :)

I'm pretty good at figuring out ones nationality by certain features. This is a picture of my brother and I. We are 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Polish. I've been told that I look Irish and he looks Polish? Thoughts?

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Yes, I definitely have the polish eyes.....I was reading where the Mongols came into Poland a gazillion years ago. I never knew that. My father has the heavy eye lids, causing his eyes to look asian when he smiles.
