Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

The fact that the neighbours believe they can dismantle your property and park on your land with impunity but have a fit if your cat walks through their garden would seem to suggest theres is no cultural misunderstanding here. The neighbours are just plain rude and need to be told what is and isnt acceptable to you otherwise they will keep taking the p1ss.

Or you could take everyone else's advice and apologise for not showing enough empathy and understanding for the very valid reasons behind their behaviour that were so subtle that someone as insensitive as yourself failed to pickup on.

Maybe bake them a cake also.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

I think the Polish areas of W.London have become a bit of an embarrassment to Poles over the last couple of years due to alot of the more recent arrivals. Poles I know who had previously said they didnt want to live anywhere else are now saying they want to get out as the criminal element has migrated over after the students and economic migrants. Maybe/hopefully the ones you've had issues with are from this recent influx of bumpkins and underclass rather than because of Poles in general.

Probably, I mean look at Israel. You'd think that they may have learned an expansionist military state whose citizenship is based on race might be a bad idea having experienced it themselves first hand.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

We fought the Germans, while the Jews hid. Warsaw Uprising. Maybe you should read a book on that. It was the POLISH HOME ARMY comprised of pure Polish that did a lot of the fighting. Was there Jews helping? Yes, of course. Very little though.

I wouldnt call it hiding per se. The Jews in Warsaw were walled up in a ghetto by the Nazis and basically starved to death. Despite this they managed to stage an effective and extremely brave uprising. The jews did play a part in the Warsaw uprising however their numbers were limited as their ghetto had already been liquidated.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

We have in Poland (38 mln people) 100 racist accidents in whole year when we look in other EU countries stats it is nothing ...

True but other EU countries are more ethnically diverse. Time will tell I suppose.

Er, this does happen I'm afraid. I know of it happening in west London and it has happened to my brother in the midlands. It'll happen anywhere where you get a majority of one ethnic group whose teenagers feel territorial.

There is an argument for finding new words due to the associations with slavery and an be viewed as derogatory.

Was African slavery so widespread in Polish history? And if so, how many Polish speaking black people are these Polish phrases associated with slavery going to offend?

Quoting: Shelley

You are probably right.

How did you come to that conclusion?

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country?

Depends on the what period in history you live. Norman Davies has written a book called 'Microcosm' about Wroclow which shows how this city's history is a microcosm of the history of Central Europe. Thats central europe, not eastern.

And Non, If not for the US the whole British Isles would still be speaking German

We've never spoke German so how could we still be speaking it?

Whats that got to do with anything on this thread anyway? Stereotypical, lazy kneejerk utterance by an American whenever he speaks to anyone in Europe I think.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

I have heard that polish women are the most Beautiful in the world( especially compared to British girls). I agree with this but want to know what you think.

Not true. Polish girls tend to stay slimmer but sometimes just being skinny isnt enough.

Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

I was on a bus yesterday and got talking to an old man who is a close neighbour. He was telling me about life in England just after the war when they filled all the ex prisoner of war camps with Poles!.

Really? Wow.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

British people force their smiles often, i know quite a few of them and its hillarious when their smile disappears from their faces almost as soon as it appeared, its so fake!

but people in the streets on england i also notice dont smile.

Well, I dont know who to believe.

Smiling is the best medicine and I think all poles who are on polish forum should have a national smile promotion day and go out and make people happy.

Whats Polish for 'Turn that frown upside-down!'

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [417]

I dont want to join in the Pole bashing so I'll balance a criticism with a compliment.

I think Poles have even less of an ability to accept blame then other nationalities. In my experience even when confronted with damning evidence there is an inability to say ' yep, sorry about that, I fuked up.' A lot of people in different nationalities have this characteristic of course, however I've noticed that the Polish people I know and have met will never hold there hands up to anything. I think its a pride thing.

However I do think a good characteristic of Poles is that they tend not to over-react in pressure situations. They keep their heads and stay calm.

Life / Polish and Czechs [191]

most Slovaks (and I presume Czechs) couldn't care less that there is a country to the north of them.

As an Englishman I can understand this completely. It only holds true though until 150,000 of them come south, get p1ssed and trash a town centre.

stay away from polish women

I think judging by the number of Polish women who shag foreigners you're point is being ignored.

Life / The Pole is happy when someone else cries... [75]

i would agree with most of the sentiment shown on this topic, there is a bit of 'enjoyment' at others expense and also the Polish as a breed specialise in being selfish.

True but I've also seen them help each other out more than other people. We all have only so much goodwill and Poles probably like to save it all for people they actually know.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

I seem to have met all of them then. The Polish people I've met who claim not to be racist will always say "I'm not racist but..." followed by a comment about black people. To be fair though most ethnic groups seem to have a fairly negative opinion of black people in London.
